I haven’t seen anyone post about this yet, so I thought I’d take the liberty of doing so. Is it just me or is the day time in this game wayyyyy longer than the night? I’m doing a 50 lap exhibition right now, rolling time of day, and I had the race start at sunset. By not even lap 10, it was already sunrise. Now I’m on lap 44, and it’s just now getting to be late afternoon. What is the point in this? I can’t think of any legitimate reason to make the day time a million times longer than the night. It’s just such an odd design choice and makes no sense to me. Anyone else think so?
Long-summer-days reasoning aside, it would be nice if the ratio of daytime to nighttime was more in line with reality. It’s not like night driving even impairs you that much.
Well this is a good point, but for me night doesn’t last as long in free roaming sessions, as in just driving across the map and convoying. Night needs to last longer overall in all sessions, especially in drive abouts!
And then we should have five straight days (and nights) of rain, which we just experienced, if you want reality. Or winter time situations. But, depending on which hemisphere you’re in, it could be the opposite of what is “reality” for you.
I’m not complaining that it’s not realistic, I’m complaining because it doesn’t make sense for a game with a day/night cycle to have the day be infinitely longer than the night. I’ve never played a game where this is the case (until now). It’s an extremely odd design choice that just simply does not make sense. As someone who prefers driving/racing in the night time, it’s pretty irritating that it only lasts for like 5 minutes and then the day lasts for 30+.
You usually make better posts than this, Snow.
It’s no secret the cycle is artificially biased towards daytime racing - it’s been like that the entire series, US, Europe, now Australia, and I can understand why. I would prefer a more even cycle like we see in The Crew or GTA, though as the other posts here demonstrate, daytime is more in demand.
At least - perhaps ironically - they did make the nights longer in Australia, so it certainly doesn’t feel like the sun rises as soon as it sets anymore.
Nah, I like that there is some night, but I’d rather it be daylight most of the time. I like it the way it is. Events can be blueprinted for fixed nighttime too. 50 laps of Goliath is endless night–yuck! But it may be someone’s cup of tea.
Now, if we could only get the proper mix of sunny and other weather, in both the Australian and the Southern-European Summers, I’d be really happy. (I’ve been to Nice, France in the Summer. It doesn’t rain twice a day every day. And Australia has like 95% sunshine in the Outback, no?)
I agree, I like the cycle and transition, but I prefer daytime racing. Especially on Goliath. I find it amazing you can be on a mountain in the outback and it’s sunny and over in a valley across the way and it’s raining and dark clouds are over it. That’s awesome in my opinion.
I think they got the balance spot-on, I find that too much night and/or rain just interferes with the ability to complete challenges (stunts, speed zones etc.) because its harder to see or there is less traction.
Back when “night” was introduced into Forza Motorsport, people were clamoring for “real time” weather/night but with a totally global playing base, that’s a bit hard to do. People usually avoid rain and darkness because daytime is easier. People complain about the location of the sun, too.
Right now it is raining again (real life) and has been for about six hours. I prefer what the game does, and we all have the same when we play.
I agree 100%. I think the balance is just what it needs to be for the purpose of entertainment. As far as Zeem Frostmaw’s reference to The Crew: I know the time flow in it is “realistic” but I hate that the night lasts seemingly Forever.
Yeah, real-time weather and time of day wouldn’t really have much meaning anyway when you’re bouncing between times and weather from race to race.
There is a practical reason why days are longer now. The sky in FH3 is the real Australian Summer sky, being played back accelerated, but not so accelerated that it would look surreal:
They could have chosen to make nights equally long. I, for one, an glad they didn’t.
I recommend reading that whole interview at The Guardian, BTW. Good, informative piece.
I feel that the night cycle needs to be shifted. Maybe in horizon solo. Trying to take pictures during the night is impossible for me. If you want to catch the sunset during the winter there is such a short time frame to get that perfect photo. And then it’s back waiting for the next opportunity. Night time in my opinion was implemented to make a challenge. Sure everyone can handle roads during the daytime, but night time shifts your understanding to become more critical with your driving line. I wouldn’t mind upping the time frame for night.
