Lock automatically, though anyone can paint over your vinyls.
What do you mean paint over them? I thought it removed the vinyl when you tried to edit?
Thanks a lot…
I’ve been wondering about this question for a while but never thought of asking the forum guru’s ![]()
Any vinyls or designs that you share are locked automatically and cannot be edited by anyone. Vinyl groups that you share and someone downloads can be used on their cars … but any designs they build with your vinyls cannot be shared for anyone else to use. They can, however, auction off the car that has your vinyls groups or designs on it and therefore can profit from it. I find that a bit annoying that someone else can profit from my work and I get neither any credits ($$) or credit (recognition) for it. But it can only happen through an individual auction one time … so it’s not like they can share your work and continue to earn credits from it.
Everyone does it and it cant be stopped. When you download a logo it is saved in your Vinyls list as normal. It is marked as locked. But you can still add to it (as in copy the same or similar shape over the top of it until it looks roughly like the original, in fact, subtle differences are handy if you have an issue with an original painter complaining, as they wont look EXACTLY the same). then you group the new copy as one item, then delete the original locked version you downloaded (easy now you don’t pay squillions for it like before), and you have your own version free to use. Etiquette and ‘race karma’ will say it’s not good to do. My opinion, original designs should stay that way (as opposed to copying a common brand or manufacturer logo you may be struggling with), but that is entirely up to the original painter. What we all need to remember is that this is a video game, not the roof of the Sistine Chapel, and although we painters do consider ourselves talented, and can take pride in our work, and feel we need to be rewarded, maybe we need to ‘pull our heads out of our own arse’ sometimes. Someone thought our work was good enough to copy (steal if you prefer), and so take some solace from that.
I have no problem with people copying brand/sponsor logos, especially if you improve them in the process. I shouldn’t be prevented from sharing a great and orginal design because I didn’t create a small Pirelli or BBS logo from scratch. You still get a small payout for the logo being downloaded anyway. I’ve certainly done it and imagine people have copied mine in turn.
So you don’t have any issues with people being able to download with a simple button click something that you may have spent hours and hours working on and then being able to share a design that incorporates your work to make millions of credits off of it?
Not really. Someone else copying my basic sponsor logos doesn’t take any money from me and I’m not at the level where I make millions from shared designs anyway. You could stop it by not allowing you to load downloaded groups into the layer editor, but then people would just load them onto a van or something and copy them that way. At that point you may as well not share layer groups at all. I’ve traced (and in some cases fixed/improved) sponsor logos from others and i’m sure others have traced mine. Just sharing sponsors is one thing but you still need to be able to use them in a creative way.
I don’t care either. If it’s something that took ages to do, I tend to not share it straight away, and just race it and expose it as often as possible, (KISS logo I’m doing that with at the moment), and wait for the emails requesting it to start coming in, or post a photo on one of the various Racing Facebook Pages, and gauge responses and likes, and if I get enough demand, I’ll share it then. Proper etiquette says if your going to Download with the purpose of copying, at least ‘like’ the design as well, then the original guy gets a bit more payout for his effort.
I have a big problem making a feature in game that was a bannable offence in 4 . I pulled 145 liveries that took 4 days just to bring over from Forza 6 and really feel like Playground and Turn 10 ruined what was the most fun to me. Yea sure I can put liveries on cars and slap them in the auction house and spend way to much time that it sucks ! Hey why do that when all the cloners are doing it right now . It makes me sick to my stomach and this is probably what they intend on putting in Forza 7 . I can tell you right now I won’t be buying the next one due to this garbage . I used to paint allot and now what’s the point ? So wishing I hadn’t bought this game now . My stuff won’t be back unless locked means nobody profits off my liveries but me . No ifs ands or buts about it . I go from 113,000 livery downloads in Forza 6 to zero due to this entitlement crap …
