People like them enough to download and copy. I don’t care if people want to copy my work. You can’t sell cars at auction with locked designs. With all the effort people put into copying the vinyl groups. It takes a lot less effort to give them a like.
some of mine have likes (not many), so there’s a way to do it.
What I can’t figure out is ‘uses’, because I’ve never been given a payment for a usage, even with a couple thousand downloads.
I don’t get any uses either this is why I think they are just copying them. When you go to your vinyl groups the vinyl groups that you’ve downloaded in the bottom right of your screen there’s a place where you can like.
To be fair the system they have is stupid, no one should be forced to copy every single logo they use. It’s just easier to copy than to make it from scratch.
It’s quite funny actually because the whole reason stuff was locked in Forza was because some people complained they never got any credit for their vinyls/designs/whatever. Well, in the current system some people have the patience to trace vinyl groups and release designs as their own anyway, getting all the credit. It’s even worse for the original creators!
Hence why some people stopped sharing vinyl groups… Which obviously creates a new problem, as it restricts actual creation of content to only a few people. It’s no surprise the forums are becoming more deserted with each iteration of Forza. It’s not because of the game’s quality, but because the creation system is just terrible.
I didn’t start playing Forza until FM5, so I never played any of the earlier games where vinyls could be shared unlocked and other users could download them and then share them again. I made it a point to share vinyls that I created for use in the Forza community. I stopped sharing vinyls, however, when shortly after the release of Horizon 3 it was discovered that users could download vinyls or designs created by others and then sell them as their own creations and make millions off of them in the Auction House without any credit or compensation to the original creator.
Yes, there should have been more compensation for vinyl creators. However, some creators have stated they don’t care about credit income and wanted the recognition instead, and the system was just terrible because someone might use vinyls from lots of creators, sometimes more than once in the same design, and it just becomes impractical to list all people who contributed to the project in the auction menu. What we currently have is probably the best compromise but it still does not stop people from copying designs and getting recognition for the creations of others.
I wasn’t aware people could pass others’ whole designs as their own, though. That was pretty bad. I’m not sure whether selling cars with your name on it counts towards the progression all the way to Legend status but, if it does, then it kinda sucks, as these people get more from a sale than a creator for the download of a design.
I do try to like everything I download, though. But the prompt for liking the design does not usually pop up.
I can’t believe that every single person who downloaded one of my vinyls simply copied them without using them (especially since I have a few characters that are 1000-1300 layers. Some of them had to have been used (especially when I make them for people who requested them).
I am getting downloads, likes and uses on all my shared paints in FM7.
The Daily Payout messages for designs and vinyls you get in game break down exactly how many downloads, likes and uses you’re being credited with every day.
To see exactly how many downloads, likes and uses each design has earned once shared, go to Cars > Paint & Customize > Paint Car > My Designs and select the design. To see these details for shared vinyls, go to Cars > Paint & Customize > My Vinyl Groups and select the vinyl group.
Ah, I wasn’t also selecting it, I thought the summary would show it. However, I see downloads, likes and uses for paints, but only downloads and likes for vinyls. Selecting someone elses paint or vinyl allows liking it.
I think part of the problem is that Horizon tended to prompt you to like paints you used a few times, but neither Horizon nor Motorsport prompt you to like vinyls.
I’ve never quite grasped the problem with sharing vinyls/paints and other people making money in the Auction House. Does it really make a car more valuable with a good paint if anyone could apply the paint themselves? Obviously, if the painter auctioned an exclusive paint then I can see the attraction, but not for one that anyone is free to download.
I’m not counting the bug where a locked paint could occasionally be unlocked and modified (and vinyls extracted) in FH3.
I have never really cared if anyone profited off of something I created and freely shared by selling it in the Auction House. (If that bothered me then I wouldn’t share it in the first place.) What I didn’t agree with was someone downloading vinyls I’ve worked for many hours on, adding them to their cars and then being able to sell it as their own work with no recognition that I was actually the creator. That’s why I took down all the vinyls I had shared and stopped sharing any more.
Oh, I see, so you could sell a car in the AH with other people’s vinyls on. However, that has been fixed hasn’t it? If you try to auction a car with locked vinyls in FM7 it won’t let you proceed.
Ya, the credits you get from sharing something isn’t much at all. I mean the credits I get. I can run a race or a few in single player the credits aren’t an issue.
The credits can add up quite nicely depending on the quantity and quality of what you share. I don’t really play FH3 much now that FM7 is out, but when I was actively painting in FH3, I was pulling in between 700K and 1M a day in credits earned from design downloads.
As a person who has created alot of vinyl groups since FM5 I’m not bothered about other players “recreating” or “copying” my work and here’s a few reasons why:
I create 90% of my vinyls from scratch, looking up reference images online.
I put time and effort into making everything line up to certain extends. (And staying as close to perfect as possible)
I use many different techniques when creating my vinyls making them truly MY design. (Since I haven’t seen anyones designprocess I stand by this statement)
Having made a name for myself has clearly granted me followers since I recieve alot of credits daily for my vinyls. (Even months after first uploading it)
I occasionally make “one-off-paints” for people to race with in certain events or just in general.
When I “copy” or “trace” someone elses work I never follow it beacause I usually take a poorly made one (First vinyl that pops up when searching) whilst also having a reference image as help.
The “trace” is only there for a guide if I’m not exactly sure of how lets say a curve looks like in comparison to the rest of the design.
[When I create my designs I have Forza open on my TV, while my reference image is on PC - hooked up to a monitor places side by side my TV.]
Back on topic I can understand the frustration of not being acknowledged as a painter/designer/you name it even though you put your time in to it.
But I can also see where someone wanting to “copy” someone elses design comes from. I.e. wanting to create his/her own vinyl to say share a design they’ve worked on. Only needing that one or two vinyls that they just cannot grasp fully.
But you can buy a car, choose a Livery, and sell the car with that person’s Livery on it, via the Auction House.
Which, if you look on the Auction House, and see what I see, it’s always 3 different names on the car, Different tuner, different Painter, and seller… and these people make millions selling these cars that if you were to follow the link to the Painter’s page, you could likely get the same paint, without the inflation.
Exactly. I have seen cars with my paints on them sold for millions in the Auction House. And I freely share all my paint releases and have never sold a single car in the AH. If anyone wants one, all they need to do is download it themselves.
I tried to do that “trick” where you put up a car for auction, delete its design in My Designs, the auction expires and you get the car back and a free design slot, but usually they’re snatched by people who don’t know you can download the designs… So I can’t confirm whether it still works in Forza 7.
I’d buy cars from painters… But only if the creators themselves were the sellers… Running out of design space is never good.
