Livery Editor - Comprehensive List of Bugged Rims (Paint Errors, etc.) [Updated for 5.0]

Be sure to vote if you have encountered any issues with painting rims!

Platform: Xbox Series X
Graphics Mode: Performance
FM23 Version: 1.545.529.0 (Update 5.0)

There are many inconsistencies in FM23 when it comes to painting rims, mostly in the “material” appearance. I’ve thrown together a table that contains all of the rims in Forza Motorsport (2023) as of update 4.0 (now 5.0), and the results of some of the “tests” that I’ve ran. Be sure to read what the tests + results mean before reading the table, otherwise it might just be a mess of letters.

Update 5.0: Some good news!

Although there was no specific mention of any fixes to the rims in the release notes for Update 5.0, there was some significant improvements in certain aspects of the “paintability” of rims.

  • The color bleed issue present on many rims has largely been fixed (75 failing rims in update 4.0 versus 6 failing rims in update 5.0)
  • There are many more rims passing the chrome test (148 rims failing or questionable in update 4.0 versus 33 rims failing or questionable in update 5.0)

Unfortunately there seems to be no improvements to rims failing the Matte Test. I’ve tested the rims up to BBS and found that the rims that have failed before seem to fail the same way now, so I’m making the assumption that the rest of the rims that have failed the Matte Test haven’t changed in that aspect (I will eventually test the rest of the rims, I just haven’t got around to the rest due to time constraints).

Despite that, I greatly appreciate the progress that has been made so far! Pat yourselves on the back and keep up the good work.

This list pertains to aftermarket rims only. This list does not include paint bugs for stock rims, or rims in motion.

Matte Material Test

The rims are painted in a matte finish. Hue is set to 0.00, Saturation is set to 0.00, and Brightness is set to 0.50. The result should be a dull gray.

  • If the whole rim indeed appears to be a matte gray finish, then it is marked as “P” for PASS.
  • If any part of the rim appears to have a finish other than matte, then it is marked “F” for FAIL.
  • If it’s hard to tell for sure, it is marked “Q” for Questionable. It also has a corresponding entry in MMT Fail Conditions.

MMT Fail Conditions

Rims that fail the Matte Material Test can usually be grouped in one of three ways. Note that rims that passed will NOT have a letter under MMT Fail Conditions.

  • Metallic (M) - At least part of the rim appears to have a metallic finish, to a varying degree
  • Glossy (G) - At least part of the rim appears to be glossy
  • Semigloss (S) - At least part of the rim appears to have a semigloss finish, to a varying degree

The rim on the left is an example of a rim that passes the Matte test, while the one on the right is an example of one that doesn’t. The rim on the right displays the metallic (M) failure condition only on part of the rim.

Chrome Test

The rims are painted with a Chrome finish (Specifically chrome, I didn’t test polished aluminum).

  • If the whole rim appears to be finished in chrome, then it is marked as “P” for PASS.
  • If any part of the rim appears to have a non-chrome finish, then it is marked as “F” for FAIL.
  • If it’s hard to tell for sure, it is marked “Q” for Questionable. It also has a corresponding entry in MMT Fail Conditions.

CT Fail Condition

Rims that fail the Chrome Test can be grouped in one of two ways.

  • White (W) - At least part of the rim appears to be solid white
  • Gray (G) - At least part of the rim appears to be gray, or a finish other than a pure chrome

The rim on the left is an example of a rim that passes the Chrome test, while the one on the right is an example of one that doesn’t. The right rim displays both failure conditions, “W” and “G” (This particular example of a failing chrome test has been fixed).

Color Bleed Test

The rims are painted in brushed steel.

  • If the whole rim appears to have the “general appearance” of brushed steel, there is no entry and a space is left blank.
  • If there is any color that “bleeds” through, then it is marked “F” for FAIL.

The rim on the left displays no signs of color bleed. The rim on the right displays color bleed on the lip, resulting in an “F” on the chart (This particular example of color bleed has been fixed).

*Note on Pass conditions

Just because a rim might pass a test, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing wrong with it! For most of these rims I’ve taken maybe a 5 second glance at a time for most of them, so I encourage you all to do a little bit of testing yourselves. If there are other bugged paint options for rims, please describe it in the comments. And again, don’t forget to vote if you have encountered this issue.

Wow, Thats a lot of work you have put in here. Lets hope your efforts result in some improvements.

Congratulations. Youve officially put more effort in than the developer did :tada:

Unbelievable! A good 90%+ of the wheels are bugged.

And this doesn’t even account for the in-game bugs when the wheels are in motion! I’ve seen them completely change color or even disappear/turn to black once the garbage 2d effect kicks in. Not to mention there is no gradual transition to the garbage 2d effect either. It’s just rim spinning at correct speed to instantaneous rim spinning 200mph.

Wheels are in alpha stage at best. They are in an absolutely unacceptable state. It’s absurd. And I can’t believe it is getting zero attention from either players or T10.

Great work BTW

Great job…

I respect your passion and work a lot here. Thank you for doing this. I do also feel absolutely terrible that you are doing the devs’ work for them lol. It really shows how lazy, prolonged and misdirected this game’s development has been!

This is one of the most detailed reports of any glitches and bugs I’ve ever seen. Astonishing. Let’s hope the developers take note of this

We appreciate you opening this topic and sharing feedback. For us to be able to more effectively address your concerns, we ask that you open up threads for single specific issues, and try to avoid “grouping” several issues into one. This way, we’ll be able to better understand and convey a particular issue to our product team, and open and track bugs internally to monitor progress towards resolution. As a result, we will close this thread, but please open individual topics on issues you notice with the game. Thank you!
