Seriously? A little bit of EQ and reverb? The DBR9 sounds like a vacuum cleaner. For reference I listened through a set of professional audio monitors. I know there are a lot of cars in the game, probably too many to record the sounds of each one if you are lucky enough to find them especially the classics. But at least for the more modern cars and especially the race cars you guys should obtain sound samples for Forza 8.
I think they have sooo many cars they can’t possibly get the sounds right. Instead they’ve chosen to implement a new system that shares sounds across brands/motors/drivetrains, and lacks any low frequency effects for any car audio. It really sucks, but we can only speak with our wallets…
Well, they have one grand mess on their hands that’s for sure. Maybe not have so many cars at launch and add them slowly over the weeks and months?
Honestly though, I will label the sounds “improved” once they actually improve the bass response and rumble - so that the cars take centre stage while the track sound fx take a backstage. Right now, its the other way around.
Not a big fan of their new sound engine - it was quite nice actually in all previous FM and FH titles. Almost shocking to know that games like GTS and PCARS2 can have more believable car sounds.
I’d prefer not to lower the other effects beyong 70-75% because then I’d almost completely loose wind noise, reverb effects, road noise, etc.
I’m using a Harman/Kardon 7.1 amp with my console. Bass is somewhat good on a limited number of cars such as the GT350 - I can listen to the rumble on that all day, it’s beautiful. But other cars, which you’d expect to sound powerful in the cockpit view just aren’t such as SLS AMG or AMG GT-R. There’s just a lack of “oomph” to the car notes, I don’t know how else I can get this across. Fm6 and 5 - the cars appear to have the correct dynamic range - they sound powerful and extremely satisfying to drive.
In comparison, the dynamic bass in FM7 seems pronounced only in the low-torque range - as you pick up revs and speed and about to shift gears, the bass fades away even more - this, I find very odd because the closer you are to redlining a powerful car, the more bass, rumble and vibration there is to the exhaust and engine.
Okay, which model amp exactly & what speakers if you don’t mind me asking?
I sort of agree to an extent, personally I think they’re needs to be more sliders in general. Can you not just up the bass through your amp? Turn everything else down to 70 ish, decrease the treble & up the bass? I can on my system by 6 decibels, not including the subwoofer. Have you ever considered a butt-kicker or a subwoofer?
With regards to the bass of the engine, it does all depend on the car. Some cars have a lot of bass at idle, some don’t. Some have a lot at higher RPM, again, some don’t. It’s like that in real life & in the game. Unless you actually hop into something like a Mercedes-Benz AMG GTR, you won’t know for sure.
My suggestion would to hop into cars you actually do know & talk your AMP from there. On my AMP I actually run neutral bass & treble, because the BMW Z3 has near identical bass in game compared to the one we own in real life.
The buttkickers work off of low frequency inputs, since FM7 has no low frequencies for most car engines/exhaust there is nothing for the butt kicker to output… There is never a time when you should have to adjust your calibration for a single game, song, movie…ever. Once a system is calibrated it works to full efficiency for all content, that’s what it’s designed for anyway. I never have to adjust anything when playing other games, consoles, or movies, and would never for a single game, for picture or audio. The game has the dynamic range of a 70s radio shack cassette player, it’s trash and abysmal in accuracy and tone for most cars, but dynamic range as well. You could have 4 18”, 2000 watt subs with 18 buttkickers, they all would be silent if no frequencies they are supposed to output are sent there way.
I run an Onkyo RZ 610, Def tech Pro Monitor 1000s, 2000 center and a 1500watt SuperCube 6000. The Shelby Cobra in GT Sport shakes my theater at idle, and the house at full throttle, as do many others in that game.
The “fix” we have been requesting over and over again is simple: developers should spend at least a few days with their previous titles like FM6 and FM5 - THAT is car dynamic frequencies and bass done right. You can feel car sounds reverberate through your body like they do IRL.
Far too much bass and volume on track effects, not enough on cars. The cars still sound distant and lack punch. The best home theatre system will not fix that unless they rework the frequencies and mixing in the sound stage.
I’m in agreement with Evan regarding bass output especially since the update. I have plenty of output from my sub especially with cars idling. So much that I’ve had to roll of the sub level a few dB when late night gaming so I don’t wake anyone up. How do you have your crossover set on your amp? That can make a huge difference. I’m running a Marantz receiver into a B&W 500w 12" sub and I have mine set to send LFE + Main I think at 120hz. Might be 100hz. I’d have to double check. Anyhow if I actually upped the sub channel to near max it would shake the neighbors dishes. The idea of never having to adjust your receiver settings is kind of weird. That’s why they have the quick channel adjust option.
I use the standard Dolby suggested crossover of 80hz for speakers and 120hz for the sub. I’ve never had to make adjustments to my theater based on a single movie, streaming service, or anything. Once calibrated to 75db at main listening position, you are done, simply increase volume to reference level and you are listening to what the sound designers intended.
If anyone can corroborate the added bass, I would use the free trial and give it a go. Don’t want to waste 100gig of data just to delete it if it’s still poor in sound.
Well I wasted 100gig on the trial. I tried the Shelby Cobra just now. Tone isn’t horrible, but zero throat, depth, or bass to this 427ci monster V8 with side pipes🤦♂️. Rumble strips still vibrate my chair well though😂. I chose the Shelby for direct comparison to the same car in GT Sport, FM 7’s version isn’t even comparable with it, embarrassing. I’m gonna try the GT350 and see if that magically has dynamic range or not.
Okay, tried the GT350, 488, and Charger Hellcat. The GT350 actually did have a subtle bit of midrange bass from about 4000rpm on, zero at idle. Tone was puny, but didn’t seem completely wrong, except for the trans whine that shouldn’t be there. The 488 seemed to not have turbos, they made no noise, but the tone seemed to be good. Zero low end bass or even mid range. The Charger I can direct compare to GT Sport, actually like the FM7 versions tone and supercharger whine better, but again only some midrange bass in the mid revs, zero at idle or launch. I did manage some air time at Laguna and when it came down, bass shook the house.
It seems like the track effects are just so overpowering as well, if I touched sand my surrounds were crazy active with very loud pebbles/sand flying everywhere, the chopper is loud, and rumble strips rumble. All very good, if a bit loud, even turned down to about 25% in settings. The cars just can’t compete with the track sound effects. I’ve turned tire sound down as well to about 25%, sounds like sand paper on wood when fighting for traction, odd choice, overall decent though. I watched the replays as well and noticed some nice reverb, and just too out of balance tracks sound effects. I’ve seen and heard The GT350 and Charger Hellcat in person, but only the 488 on television, so I haven’t actually driven them. I can attest that the GT350 especially has a low 25/30htz tone at idle mixed in with the exhaust, definitely not present in FM7. At least I’m not missing anything by skipping 7.
What are you using to determine that a particular exhaust note is missing 2 almost subaudible frequencies? Also I’ve played enough GT Sport and PC2 to know what they may make up for in imaginary exhaust sounds they lack in decent handling and overall visual quality. I’d rather play a game that handles well and also looks ridiculous than a game that lacks in both of.those areas but sounds better. Just my $.02.
Just my sub, goes down to 20htz, you don’t really hear it, you feel it. The physics are good on FM7 for sure, and I love the motion controls on GT Sport, but the sound being so messed up I just can’t stomach the horrible online and sound in FM7.
I get what you’re saying. Different things bother different people. To me GT Sport engines have a weird artificial sound to them. Still a fun game. I just feel with FM7 there’s enough they do really well it compensates for any lack of realism in the exhaust sounds. Although did you listen to the Porsche Carrera GT during your most recent playthrough? Might be one of the best engine/exhaust combos in recent video game history.
I will now, I’ve only played an hour or so of the trial. I have a months worth of progress from launch, so it’s nice to walk into all the money from designs and such and buy any car I need👍. I’ll give it a go tomorrow morning, thanks for the input.
If you’re playing the trial version, how can you have all the latest updated sounds? Maybe I’m missing something here…
Exhaust bass and motor rumble needs to be appropriately pronounced according to cars that have it IRL. Right now, it appears they’ve selectively given certain cars bass at idle and throughout different torque ranges. I still feel too much pitch coming out and not enough deep, “rumbly” bass plus midrange.
H/K 7.1 system here. Thankfully, the update did reduce the horrendous pitch that was present in some of the Ferraris, Lambos and Porsches. Reverb definitely got improved. Wish they would lower chopper sounds and rumble strips, and increase wind noise as well as road noise according to the tires you have on your car.
Chad, take a Laf and FXX-K for a spin or the Maserati GTS and Ferrari Enzo - you will be pleased! On the first two though, they shouldn’t sound completely hollow, but whatever!
Cool, I’ll try them too. I’m assuming the trial version is updated like the full version, it’s the complete game, just for 4 hours. I’ve even retained my VIP status even though I refunded the Ultimate edition😳. The sound has improved, I’ve now lowered track sound effects to about 10% and the balance is better.
I really liked the Porsche Carrera. The tone was too high compared to the videos I’ve watched of it irl, but has a nice sound and some actual depth to it. The Mustang GT however is really poor. Then I decided to try online some. Did simulation league and had some great racing( miss that part of FM), and even though the sound of most of my cars was wrong and weak, once racing close began it kinda became a non issue. I’m not buying 7 though, still too many goofy things going on for me to enjoy it like I have previous versions. I’ll keep a close eye on 8 and see what happens. Thanks for the feed back gents👍
