I’ve been trying to figure out what to use for tyre pressure for drifting. Any tips or suggestions? What do you guys use for tyre pressure?
Depends on what you plan to do with the car points or tandem fast or slow drifting
I drift pretty slow with drag tires between 48-55lbs.
I’ve been using street tires with the Tire pressure set as follows:
Front 38.0 PSI
Rear 24.o PSI
Here’s a video of my BRZ Drifting using those same pressures:
I also have this tune shared. It’s called BRZ D-Spec or search my gamertag: KILL3RCURTIS
Hope it helps!
I don’t really tandem cause I’m more of a points drifter. Any suggestions?
My points car is a 02 camaro 35th anniversary, I have a tune uploaded for it, I run 53lbs in both front/rear, tune is a 774 PI and gt is Mccoyn1990
Depends on what your car setup is if your running AWD I’d run between 30-35 pounds with the front tires being a pound more than the rear. If your running RWD it depends on how you have your camber setup if your running negative front and rear run between 40-45 pounds on the front and somewhere around 28 on the rear, but if you run positive camber on the front you can run your tire pressure a lot lower because having positive camber will make your car slide more and be more stable at the same time without needing high tire pressure so i would run somewhere between 29-34 pounds on the front and around 28 on the rear.
if you are drifting AWD use stock tyres @ 55PSI frount and back if you Drift Rwd Drag tyres @ 15psi if you don’t believe me check my youtube out WraggyTheGamer - YouTube
if you are points drifting you want that rear tire pressure low (like 15PSI) and the front somewhere in the stock → no more than 33PSI to make sure you have good control.
What pressure to use is based in the car power IMO. But I feel better with both at the minimum possible, the car does smoother transitions
I use 27.5 front and rear as a starting point. If I feel the front or rear is a bit too gripy, i’ll raise the pressure up a bit. I also use Street or Sport Tires.
I try to keep my cars settings as close to real life as possible. I do not use drag tires, or racing slicks. I like my cars to be viable as street cars. No more than 600hp and no less than 2500lbs.
Keep in mind, your tire pressure and all tune settings should reflect your weight and power. You can’t just say, “I use XX Metric on all cars” you will end up with all of your cars being very similar, but none being outstanding. You might say, “I use XX Metrics on XX car, and it is outstanding” This might be true, but the same settings will likely not apply 100% to all cars.
Each car is unique, and should be tuned as such.
drag slicks are for people who gave up on doing it the real way… its more power sliding at that point anyways benchmark starts with 40-45 front 40-50 rear depending on tires used (no slicks) and width
Thanks for the help!
Run 47 psi front 25 psi rear, throw it in deep and you can hold a full lock the whole way through, beware though it’s pretty grippy so you actually have to get out of your comfort zone of angle and be really agressive with it, but this setup holds massive angle it’s similar to what guys like XE Minty use (he told me the setup)
It seems to work well with all tires sport and below, never tried race and drag because theres no point, good luck out on the track
the more equal you tune the more equal your car will drive and be predictable starting with 40/40 then +5 or - will let you feel for what direction the car wants to go and i never leave anything to chance i grab both brakes going into every corner to get rid of the guess work and it always puts me in perfectly so its more about your drive style but depending on what camber setting is used is really where you start to figure out what psi is really needed and if the car floats or grabs and if its nose or ass heavy
Turn TC off then put race types or lower on, then I have the rear types tuned to 28 psi and the front 32 psi it works for me for car park tandems and long drifts aswell (850bhp)
