Hard time turning

I can’t keep my car in control throught corners.

I have tried to look at your replays in the past to try and help but your laps never have replays.

You would need to give a lot more specifics and may even need to reveal your tune in order to get the help you ask for.

Start with specifics eg - what car, class, on gas, off gas, is it simply a traction problem or is the car too twitchy eg turning too sharply for your steering input etc

I have none I think having traction in certain leaderboards cars because it hard to control the car without. One problem is when I turn i press on the gas and the car starts turning the TCS and I can’t advance ima try right now and have a replay in a track let you know in a few the class and track.

Yeah, that IS a problem. You should slow (brake, downshift, etc.) prior to the corner, not try to accelerate through it. In order to turn, you need grip. In order to accelerate or decelerate you need grip. Since the amount of grip your car has isn’t infinite, you can’t both turn and accelerate (or decelerate, for that matter) optimally.

At least in this game, you can’t expect to just press the gas down 100%, even through corners, and successfully navigate a course. As in real life, you need to observe the laws of physics (or a physics engine). Just imagine that the TCS lighting up is like a “SLOW DOWN” signal for you.

Yea, for you to fix the problem you got to 1st know whats the problem is, saying " I can’t keep my car in control throught corners" could be so many things it might not even be tuning related.

Seriously? Learn throttle control. You will need it even with TCS, particularly in high-powered/oversteer-prone cars.

how does it feel to be the only one in this thread so far that has a clue?

The more you tune and test the closer you get to how you want the car to feel. I always tune to slight oversteer for AWD and slight understeer for RWD. My driving style has difficulty handling a RWD car with oversteer, except Ferrari’s since they’re overpowered.

Anti Roll Bars, Springs and Bump Damping
Softer in front and stiffer in back = Oversteer
Softer in rear and stiffer in front = Understeer

Tire Pressure
Reduce it a bit from default value to get more grip, reduces top speed slightly. Don’t go too low.

Alignment
Camber = -1.5 front and rear for better cornering.
Toe = 0.2 front and rear for better cornering.
Caster = 0.5

Downforce
In A and S class I use full downforce. It reduces top speed slightly but, makes you corner well at high speeds.

Differential
75% front and rear for RWD
75% front and rear for AWD
Balance at 65% rear for AWD (I prefer more power to rear wheels to make the rear slide a bit)

Can you please clarify and expand that.

Firstly for RWD I assume you mean 75% accel and decel rather than front and rear.

For AWD are you saying you use 75% accel and decel on both the front and rear?

With things like diff there are many different values people seem to be using. Some are using 100% decel. Some of the open source tunes that people have set very quick times with use much lower figures.

RDGxBk I would suggest rather than setting it at a certain value just adjust it by 5 or 10 from your original value in both directions to see if it helps.

Also RDGxBk its important to know if both driving wheels are losing traction or just one.

He’s rite i have mine set to about 10% accel and about 30-40% decel and that works fine for me.

The best thing i think you can try is to find a open tune setup on here, then set a car up like that and then go in to test drive in tune setup and make small adjustment till you find whats best for you, (then remember what you did for future reference) as everyone’s driving styler is different, i can make a setup and be fast with it and my brother try it and can’t drive it at all and we both are about the same.

With those Diff settings settings wouldn’t I be able to drive at all I think.

I’m not mechanically inclined like some of the other folks offering advice but I will pass on one thing I learned early-ish on in Forza 5: if you’re going too fast your in-car driver (not Drivatar) will not turn the wheel as much as you want them to. My advice: try slowing down more before you enter the corner.

Give it a shot,

If the line is red, use brakes till it’s blue.
If you don’t have suggested line assist on, turn it on. Good way to learn what the car can’t handle.

The braking line asks you to brake way too much and way too long.

Good tuning and good throttle control allows any car to take corners well at the correct speed.

Slow in, fast out. Best advice is get into rivals mode and just go lap after lap practicing braking correctly and not hammering down the throttle as soon as the car sets(turns in). Even in lower powered RWD cars, if you are mashing down the throttle halfway through the turn, more than likely, without tuning it, it’s going to step out. With accel and decel settings, they are really useful in controlling turn in and corner exit. If you’re having trouble actually in the middle of the turn, that could be a lot of things. I’d say grab a tune from “Tuned by Worm” and go hotlapping with it for a while just working on throttle control through the turns. With that tune on the car, if you are using good throttle control, the car shouldn’t really have too much understeer or oversteer.

Pick a D class car with rear wheel drive and take it around a track in rivals mode. Start slow and work your way up going faster and faster. Slow down before entering the turn not mid turn by then it is too late. Take it easy on brake and throttle. Apply brakes slow and gentle to slow you down but not lock up. Go easy with the stick to make your turn flipping hard left or right will upset the balance of your car. Roll the power on after the apex don’t mash down the throttle you will break the rear wheels loose and loose traction possibly even go into a spin. Watch others replays and see where their braking points are and turn in points are. There are a lot of videos on Youtube that show how to drive fast check them out they will help you drive in game. There are a lot of threads not only for FM5 but FM4 and FM3 on how to drive and control your car search around and find them. Get better at controlling the car and improving your technique and consistency then look at building/tuning to get even faster.

the laws of physics don’t apply to this game. Some of the best cars in the world can’t take a corner doing more then 40mph in this game. It’s called bad physics engine, and the tuning we have to do to get around it is just a band aid fix.

Emphasis added.

It appears that the OP was puzzled by their inability to take a corner with the throttle wide open. While not necessarily a true racing sim, FM5 does have more realistic limitations than some other racing games.

I’m suggesting that it is perhaps the user, and not the game, that needs to be examined for the root problem.
