Some Help and Advice Please

I consider myself a decent driver, as I do not like to run a dirty race and will re-do the race if it is not clean. I usually race in the freestyle, with 1 or sometimes 2 other cars. I also do the leaderboards, and look for those who have dirty races and compete in those tracks.

My problem is that when I run a race against others in the freeplay, I start off real good, then about half way through the first lap, I start to lose it when steering. I start to drift an sometime end up saying hello to some guard rail or wall. When that happens I re-start the race. I use the controller for steering, as right now I cannot afford a wheel, and I do not race a lot. Mostly on the weekends for I am studying during the week.

Any advice on what I am doing wrong will be very helpful.

EDIT. Sorry, I should add that in the assists I use only the brake line, TCS on, normal steering, with auto shifting.

Go into controller, advanced settings and change steering to 0-100 on dead zone and see if that helps.

I have done that, and tried 0-100, 5-95 and sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.

It’s difficult to figure out your problem from that description alone but here’s my guess.

You may be overdriving the car - check the tire temperature on the lower right hand corner. If you see yellow or red, the tires have overheated and the car will slide more. The causes may be being too aggressive with the brakes, braking too late, or braking & steering at the same time. All of which should be avoided.

Brake gently so the wheel don’t lock up.

Brake early then enter the corner with little or no brake.

Listen for the tire chirp/screech during braking/cornering to ensure you are not abusing the tires.

That could be. There is no color in the tire boxes, until I actually go into a drift. I believe it is in the steering. Some of the cars are just “so touchy” when steering. I barely have to move the post and the car is all over the place. I do not tune my own stuff, for I do the auto tune, and look for tunes that have not only better speed, but better steering.

Try setting up the car with some less responsive settings. I usually bump the front roll bar up a bit, and have a tenth or two of negative rear toe. Also try lowering bump stiffness a lot, in the 3s and 4s. This has helped my cars be less twitchy, and easier to drive.

Sounds good, but how do I do that??

so, your car starts a race with really good handling, but very soon, you lose all control? sounds like a tire heat problem if i had to guess. tire heat makes a big difference. it’s one of the things that could’ve killed Senna. since it sounds like an overheating problem, you could adjust your suspension so it’s softer. or, if it’s NOT a heat problem and is instead a PSI problem, just drop the PSI down a little bit. should be running at 32-35psi, and ~230 degrees once warmed up. hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. I think I know how to do this, and also where it is at to make the adjustments. I will try it and see what happens. It could also be me.

Would it be better to race with the controller or with a wheel??

I use and like the wheel much better, but be warned if you have never used a wheel there is a big learning curve.

So in other words, if I start using the wheel, it will be like the very first day that I started. Crash, bang, boom until I get use to it. Thanks for the info. I will make sure that I go into freeplay by myself when I do get one so as not to harm anyone.
