In need of some knowledge

hey guy’s!,new guy to the forums.
i have been drifting for some time now.
although i need some help. something isn’t right.
i don’t know if its the way i’m playing or the way my cars are set up.
i’m always on.
also looking to get more involved in the community and meet new sliders.

What’s not feeling right exactly? Also maybe posting your tune up w/upgrades then people may be able to assist you better and possibly fix your problem.

i feel like i lose control of the car too much. when i initiate and counter steer the car decides whenever to do what it wants. and when i do get into a corner nicely,i usually can’t hold a drift,weather it be fish tailing or it goes the opposite direction

Are you using Sim Steering? Also I use these tyre pressures myself and also see a lot of other people using them. Try 45-PSI Front / 27-PSI Rear.

When I started on Forza 5 everything felt twitchy until I used these tyre pressures.

i used sim steering,but the car was too twitchy,so now i use norm. i can try sim again,maybe that will help.

If you’re on controller do not use sim steering. If you are having troubles with being twitchy, then you’re in for a nightmare. Use normal as it’s way easier

i just found out why i use normal aha.
i did the tyre pressure adjustment,and wow what a difference. that definitely worked. thanks for that.
though i still can’t throw the car in the corner like i want to.

As stated it would be easier to help you if you could post a few details about how you build/tune your cars.

In my opinion if something feels twitchy its more likely to be a result of bad damping settings and/or springs and ARB’s. Either the shocks are too stiff and that’s giving you too much grip on the front/rear or your spring/ARB setup isn’t handling body acceleration correctly during drifts.

Running high tire pressures doesn’t work for me, yet evidently others have had success with it…so I guess it does depend on the other settings your running.

Do you always setup your cars like that or are you just trying out new things?

I’d say a lot of those settings are working against you.

First off you said you lose control too much…That’s probably a result of running too much rear camber and rear toe.

Your alignment on the rear should be minimal, you don’t really want those wheels to have an impact on steering at all. That should come from the alignment settings you use on the front. Your rear wheels should just be the driving force whilst your front axle dictates how and where the car goes.

Try -3.0 in front for camber and -0.5 on the rear, if you feel like your car doesn’t hold angles well then try anything between 0-0.5 toe out on the front but leave the rear toe at 0 as you shouldn’t need it in a car like that. Run caster at 7.0.

I feel like just those changes may help you alot, but if your still struggling I’d be happy to help.

running rear toe isnt a bad thing. especially 0.2. i run +0.5 in the rear, and +1.8 in the front, but i also set up my tunes like my 240 is set up currently. the slight positive toe in the rear will help the rear kick out easier, but if you dont know what you’re doing controlling the car, it can be a great enemy too. and the great amount of toe in the front helps getting a bit more angle as well

I used to use an excessive amount of toe before I really learned how to tune and while it is useful for creating turn in, oversteer and angle I just found that the sacrifices to the handling outweighed the benefits especially considering that the same characteristics can be gained with less toe and a good damping setup.

I can only speak for myself though, I usually tune to tackle full tracks rather than just tandem sections so the unpredictability I experienced using lots of toe may be less of a problem when your trying to hold angles in one small section.

i tune mine for a lot of rear end grip and good forward bite along with angle, yet easy to drive. iunno. i guess i tune it how i would actually want it if i was drifting it in life.

I usually run at least -1.0 camber in the rear and -2.0 in the front. It really depends on the car. I hardly run any negative camber on my R32. I usually leave the toe even but sometimes I run 0.5 in the rear. I’ve alway ran simulation steering with my controller and I haven’t had any complaints about it. Can’t really vouch for it though since I haven’t tried normal.
