Handling vs handling ratings

Anyone have any idea on how much more handling you need (on non-race tyers) to have the same handling (corning speeds) as a car with soft race tyers?

I dont think there’s any way to determine this without testing it out. The rating system in general isnt particularly accurate as you can have cars with the same rating, but have different performance on the track.

Soft tires give the most grip, theres no getting around that. But, with the pi points saved from not using race tires, you can end up with a superior build by upgrading other parts of the car.

The biggest advantage of non race tires are their longevity. So your biggest focus should be on making a car that can stick around with cars with race tires and when their tires start to wear out you can pass them.

I compare the lateral-G benchmark values between race tires & non-race tire compounds on the upgrade/build screen.

Wider non-race tires sometimes give similar handling/lateral-G performance as standard-width race tires while saving a few PI points and providing longer life, often negating the need to pit for medium-length (~20-minute) races.

Body-kits often make even wider tire options available.

i did test it once, and my results are around .8 handling difference, as is a 4.9 soft handles as well as a sport/street 5.7.

I have not considered this before, but what exactly does “handling” mean in game? Does a larger value mean my car has better turn in than with a lower value?

Sounds about right. From my testing in the early days of the game it was around 0.6 to 0.7 between softs and sports with a no aero car.
I ran the car with full throttle and full steering input at Eagle Rock trying to achieve the same cornering speed.

Results may vary for high aero grip cars, ultra low and high weight cars and different max tire width.

Basically yes.
The “Handling” stat tries to put the maximum lateral g value the car can achieve into a number.
It’s somewhat reliable in that a car with a 6 will have better handling than a car with a 4.
It falls apart for more extreme cars like ultra low weight (Monaco) or very high aero cars with relatively low mechanical grip (Ariel Atom).

Ok good, so the range is likley between .5 and 1 for most cars. But with that large a disparity you might raise your pi too much to justify trying to hit that target. Personally i dont go by stats, i go by lap time. Cars can be tuned and the stats dont change so the number doesnt mean much.

Because of race tyers, I am trying to do a recommended handling but these softs are making it very hard to do this. I am thinking of just saying that all handlings are non race tyer and if you have meds take off .4 and if you have soft take off another .4.

Handling is the most reliable and bankable of accel, braking, hanlding and top speed.

For what a private multiplayer race? Honestly none of the stats are bankable, because cars can be tuned and it will greatly increase performance. Tires dont just effect handling, its also braking and acceleration. Its not easy to balance these things out tbh.
