Lot’s of issues people reporting on the game. I won’t take away from other’s personal experience.
However, after playing every forza, every AC, most need for speeds, several of the F1 games I can say this forza is by far the best controller driving game I’ve ever played. The tracks are absolutely stellar. I love a technical track that is hard to learn and master, but the selection of easier tracks with some challenges has been a breath of fresh air. I have a buddy that rarely plays racing games and the only track he could do in forza 7 was watkins glenn short alt with no bus stop chicane.
The new forza has plenty of accesible tracks that can be driven in almost any car type and are super fun.
I love the challenge and depth of AC with my wheel and load cell pedals, but forza, grab a controller and go is great.
I can acknowledge the AI is a bit garbage, I wish there were more tracks, and some car models leave something to be desired, but overall I am thrilled with what they have done so far. I know people are frustrated with some of the glaring issues but so far I’m having a blast with the new game. Just my two cents. I want the developers to fix the issues others are having but I also want them to know there is a really good game in there that just needs some polish.
Totally agree
As an iRacing driver I find this multiplayer the sweetspot between dedication and focus, but without the frustration that comes with iRacing.
I’m really enjoying the game despite some technical issues on pc.
I know we’re seeing a lot of bug reports and suggestions, but the developers of Turn 10 should take this with a very good eye, as it means that people are having fun and want to keep playing. This is the first forza that I’m really excited about, especially with the multiplayer. Listen to the community and act quickly with the most important updates.
Humble brag, I’ve driven a huracan gt3, ferrari 458 gt, and a mclaren on a race track. It was terrifying but not as hard as iracing makes driving a race car out to be. Several professional drivers have said that over and over again that driving a real car is actually easier then a simulator.
Forza seems to nail the sweet spot like you said. Fun to drive and accessible doesn’t mean not real. The real part of racing is knowing you might die or destroy a million dollar race car just because you tried a full send up the inside of a turn. Driving on that knife edge in real life is the difference between a kia soul on a wide open highway and an f22 fighter jet screaming 100 feet off the hard deck in combat. After 30 years of driving there is very little if anything a simulator gets right about the actually feeling of driving a race car on a track. It can’t be replicated with a video game. Sure the braking, turn in, oversteer, understeer, etc but the terrifying viceral gut reaction is impossible to replicate.
I’ve never driven anything as hot as those cars, but I’ve driven Mustang GT, GT350, Focus RS, a few Miatas and some other cars in hundreds of open track sessions over the past 10 years. . And I want to say that the handling is good enough to convince me. No game is gonna approach “real”, for the reasons you mentioned, but they’ve done a good job with the heart of the game, imo- the driving feel.
The real, technical tracks are so much fun compared to Hakone etc. I had a total blast racing a stock 1969 Mustang Boss 302 in the Mid Ohio Short last night. Fighting understeer and realistically vague steering over those blind hill-crest turns felt amazing. VIR is my local, and it looks and drives great in game. Though I’m not used to seeing it all decked out for a big race day.
I run similar lap times in similar cars IRL vs FM, but I’m much sloppier in FM. If I could tighten it up I’d be a good bit faster in FM because of lack of fear et.
So, whatever all the problems with this game are, (yeah I do have several major gripes), I’m addicted and it’s the first game where I think “can’t wait to play when I get home from work” that I’ve had in several years.
2 things i would love to see added are, change crew chief voice to male. Also have the crew chief tell you where the opponent is in relation of me. So if the opponent is on the inside. The crew chief will say. “Car inside…still on the inside. Ok clear to move to the inside” something along those lines. Just to give the game an extra umpf to immersiveness.
Totally agree. My son is only 15 and just getting into racing. I’m teaching him to be vocal in online lobbies. Good lobbies appreciate it, just a friendly on your inside, or on your outside. Plus if you tap someone in the corner an apology and giving the position back (if possible) goes a long way towards clean and fun racing.
That’s awesome! I said I drove those cars, what I didn’t do was race them, I mean I was driving them like I was racing them, but it wasn’t a real race. Always like to hear that irl times and fm times are very close.
I always hated most of the cars in the fm series because I think a clapped out 89 integra isn’t fun on technical tracks. Now with the new tracks I’m driving old bmw, mercedes, ferrari, porsche, mustangs, camaros. Never drove those in the old forza’s. Put me in the race cars and off I went. Sure there were 700 cars, I liked about 15 of them.
I think the tuning and driving model are better then people maybe give it credit for. Back in the day I had some top 10 times in the world on fm. I don’t have time for the tuning and practice anymore. The honda on the intro online races is actually a great car to start. It’s easy to drive, but hard to drive fast, and you gotta tune it and loosen it up. I think its great to have a car that is good enough someone can jump in and be sorta competitive, but deep enough that tuners can really shine with tweaks that actually make you legit faster.
I am actually playing the game on an i5-8400 GTX980ti system which optimizes at a solid 30fps. While not the kind of performance most are looking for, I have found the game quite enjoyable, and have experienced none of the crashing, stuttering, or other issues that some are reporting.
I couldn’t care less if the crew chief is a guy or girl. Choice is better then no choice. For my part I was just supporting the idea of a crew chief giving you race relevant info about car positioning.
I have not tried any racing wheels yet but controller driving experience is way better now and car physics feel more realistic than before. Online races are really entertaining and game also seems pretty stable and runs nicely on Series S, which couldn’t be said about FM7 on my XB One.
Yes, there are some graphic issues and bugs which need addressing but overall I think the new game is a big improvement over FM 6/7.
The game is probably the best turn 10 has created and more. Its so easy to master even on controller also if you havent really played racing games before.
My only issue is that no spectator mode = no league racing and i really enjoy league racing. I would really like to see the spectator mode come back to forza and then the game can enjoy quality streams with comms. Ive been a fan of the horizon games but this forza is the best they have produced and its a great addition to the turn 10 franchise.
The reason for this is because you have less of your senses. Theres no feel. The sound isnt just rught, the vibrations arent just right. Its why verstappen is so good. He can do it on simulator without hearing or feeling the physiciality if the rubber on the road
You mean the pit crew chief? The guy who lets you know to stay inside or outside during turns. The guy who lets you know “hey tires getting hot.” Lets you know when drs is available. Gives you updates on the fuel consumption if i need to go slower to save or do i have enough to send it one last time. Thats what i think should be added to the game.
That’s all race engineer stuff, except for the first one which is the job of a spotter and is something not even a NASCAR-style crew chief (which is obviously the angle you’re approaching this from) will do.
In other words…YES, THERE HAVE BEEN FEMALE “CREW CHIEFS”. AND LEENA GADE IS PROBABLY THE MOST PROMINENT EXAMPLE OF ONE.
