Graphic Comparison From FM6 to FM7

Looks like the in race details were dumbed down on the Mercedes Tankpool truck. Hopefully will be fixed in Final Build Next week.

First Pic: Forza Motorsport 6 in race details:

Second Pic: Forza Motorsport 7 in race details: Sorry for quality taken from cell phone. Still not to bad. In a rush and forgot about the press X to grab screen shot from xbox dashboard.

In the PC version is looks like the Forza 6 model. I hope for the sake of Xbox One users that it’s just a bug.

Me too. I love the new camera angle on the Tankpool though makes it easier to see lol. But yeah I only noticed cause I wanted to see how the sound changed on this and noticed that big difference lol.

Hmm, interesting… I was about to say, “I guarantee they’re the same, no real reason for T10 to rework the model of this recent-ish DLC car” however…

There’s actually LESS details (and even objects missing) in the FM7 model. Things I can point out from those 2 shots, a few wires are missing, a few bolts that WERE there, which are now just a flat surface, the shroud over the back isn’t even there. Things are a “bit” blockier, for example, the turbo. In FM6, it was blocky, but more smoothed. While in FM7 it looks like it’s a simple ~Decagon. Clamps on the pipe were there, aren’t now… 02 sensors… etc… Hmm, very interesting indeed.

Could definitely be dumbed down for a demo version, but even then, a few “details” aren’t going to make / break a demo… especially one the size of FM7

I’m willing to bet this is why, they’ve most likely added lesser models or dumbed it down to keep the demo size down.

Could be that LOD was sacrificed to make room in the CPU-budget for dynamic weather. T10 has said that the Xbox One X version will use the highest LOD at all times, but I suspect LOD on Xbox One and One S had to be pushed down to make room for additional CPU-time on the dynamic weather.

pretty much this. Alot of forza 6 background lighting was prebaked. Now its dynamic, meaning much more taxing on the GPU. I’m guessing alot of the secondary assets will be in lower resolution on the standard xbox, due to memory and gpu bottleneck.

True. Maybe the Xbox One X enhancements will bring all the details back. but we wont know till that happens November 7th.

I don’t have any plans to buy a Scorpio but I still think Forza 7 looks beautiful on the S. T10 guys sure know how to maximize the hardware. In the GTR race when the rain fades and you’re going towards the finish with the spot lights… its pretty amazing imo.

I don’t have the S I still have the original Day One Xbox One.

Honestly I really hope they’re not holding back graphics for the sake of selling more Xbox One X consoles… That does worry me with today’s gaming market, and I say that as someone who bought the same Porsches like 3 times for $20 each time…

Jeez, that looks terrible on Xbone. Literally worse than if I turned my PC settings down to ridiculously low levels…

I also noticed that on PC Version. As long as the dynamic rendering preset isnt set to ultra, cars always use lowest LOD. (even when car detail is set to high in individual settings) Tested with high preset and ultra. high had, like i said before, always low-lod cars while ultra acually showed max details

You’ve got to remember, there’s more to this than just the cars. The world details, lighting, dynamic weather system all take their toll on performance. It may be that, when factoring in additions like dynamic weather system, T10 had to make the call to reduce things here and there and it may be that the cars got a small reduction in quality. They’re hitting 60fps/1080 on the original Xbox One, that’s a seriously ambitious target and there has to be compromises.

Maybe so, but for a dev that talks so much about trying to turn gamers into car lovers and car lovers into gamers, they haven’t really given much love to the car lover quotient.

It looks like the top picture is actually from the photo mode (top right corner has the Forza logo, which only appears in photo mode, also several visual effects that aren’t present in gameplay, such as the bloom from the highlight on the left side of the truck, much higher texture resolution, the extreme motion blur on the ground and the focal blur in the distance. Also the file itself is titled “GetPhoto.jpg” which is what the Photo Mode files are named in the Gallery section of the Forza website).

Photo Mode adds in additional details that aren’t present in the model used in an actual race. I would bet that T10 is using either the same LOD as FM6 or something slightly lower. The only way to know for sure is to capture two screenshots that were both taken during gameplay, not in Photo Mode.

You are correct the Top pic is From FM6 Photo Mode and the Bottom was using my cell phone since the FM7 demo doesn’t have a photo mode. But what my original post is refereeing to is the details of the truck like the wiring and exhaust/turbo clamps. Stuff like that that are missing in FM7 that FM6 has on the XB1.

For the sake of argument…here are some XBL screen shots:

Honestly speaking, the difference in detail is laughable. There are entire parts of the car missing or blocked out in the FM7 demo. If this is truely to free up resources for the shadow, personally I’d prefer to have pre-baked lighting back. This model being so much less is pathetic. On further inspection, you can literally see parts of the car aren’t just not modeled as much, they’re not there. There is nothing under the cab of the truck; you can see right through to the road. And honestly speaking, Monza looks better than Mugello, IMO.

As for bumping up the graphics in photo mode, here is a pic from that:

Doesn’t look like too much more after effects, IMO. It looks lazy. I really REALLY hope that they aren’t dumbing down graphics on the Xbox One and Xbox One S in order to try to sell more Xbox One X consoles. I’m seriously considering if this is worth purchasing. I might just wait for a sale.

I agree Cerrax,
In photo mode there is no motion to process ( the live world in the background is stopped ) any screen images are just that…an image with no motion. This, I am sure will give the photo mode a lot more room to work with graphics. It is s etching like AutoVista where everything is bumped up graphically. With no motion to process in photo mode I am guessing the can amp up the graphics.
I think any comparisons should be done in the same environment from both games to be fair.

On a side note I was trying to compare the Nissan FFB at the ring as that car and track are in the Demo and also FM6. The problem I had here is the track is only dry for 1/3 of a lap…then gradually increasing to heavy rain for say 2/3 of a lap then just wet track in the FM7 Demo. In FM6 it is either all dry or all wet. No increasing or decreasing rain. It is hard to compare the 2 when still quite different.
What I did was run the demo several times in a row up until it started to rain and then tried FM6 on a dry track as well. I can’t compare lap times but I did get a good dry track feel on both games.

Park the car on the side, wait several minutes (2laps of AI) for the track to become dry again. Now you can do 2 full laps (1 timed) in dry conditions
