I use manual with clutch myself. No problems with races or leaving my home so far, but when exiting some races, Iā€™ll find the car is in reverse (e.g. Emerald Circuit where you respawn in the drift zone).

I addition to that, I accidentally hit some button(s) when I was racing round Tierra PrĆ³spera, which left the view pointing backwards. It was easily fixed by pressing the up arrow on my keyboard, but otherwise stuck looking backwards.

Iā€™m also having this issue. When starting a race, I have to shift up twice to get out of First gear. Iā€™m on PC with Windows 10.

Itā€™s happened across many different cars and race types. Some of the ones I remember off the top of my head:

  • Mustang RTR spec 5 - Street race sprint.
  • Ford Escort RS Turbo - Dirt circuit and dirt sprint.
  • Hoonigan Gymkhana 10 Focus RS RX - Dirt sprint in Rally Adventure DLC map.
  • Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stringray - Road circuit.
  • Mercedes Benz E63 AMG - Street race sprint.

Each of these cars have varying types and levels of transmissions installed. I know the mustang had a stock 10-speed, the escort had a stock 6 speed, the Gymkhana Focus has a race 6 speed, the Corvette has a race 6 speed, and the Mercedes has itā€™s stock transmission; 8 speed, maybe?

When spawning in to the open world, either from a house, festival site, or after a race, the car is initially in Reverse gear. What I suspect is happening, is that the cars are spawning in to the world in Reverse, but using launch control causes the car to show itā€™s in First and move forward instead of backwards, causing you to up-shift twice to get from Reverse to Second.

PC, MS store version, Kbd+mouse, if in manual, many times just exiting the house/festival and car starts in reverse.
Canā€™t be exactly sure, because Iā€™m on wireless kbd atm, but trying to drift and shifting from first to second, usually needs few tries.

In the interests of documentation and counting I am also affected by this latest wonderful ā€˜featureā€™.

I just love new Forza updates! Theyā€™re just the best!! Congratulations to the programmers who work so hard to deliver this fantastic content for us all! How lucky we are that they donā€™t get poached by other gaming studios or weā€™d have so little to look forward to every month. Bravo team. Pat yourselves in the backs.

Hello my gears are sticking when I am racing. I change first to 2nd it sticks in first. Very annoying. Please help.

At Switchback rivals, S2, so far my testing is:

  • With LC on, car will go forwards with any gear setting. Double shift from 1 to 2 always required in M or MC;

  • With LC off, car will go backwards in M or MC. Will act normally in Auto.

When I switched to a mainland track for rivals, using the same cars, the reverse issue was not present even with LC off. The double shift between 1 and 2 was still needed.

Not sure if thatā€™s consistent with what others are experiencing but so far thatā€™s repeatable for me. Xbox One Series X.

Iā€™ve also tested it a bit more. So far it seems totally random but Iā€™ll check on the LC thing next time Iā€™m going to fire up the game.

The double shifting is not happening at all to me (PC, G29, M).

Same thing happening here after the update. Xbox Series X. Some cars need 2 shifts to change gear but now when I started playing today, cars are starting in reverse gear. Extremely annoying.

Having the same problem on racing activities. Either having to hit the gear shift twice to get to second gear or the car starts in reverse - game decides which one giving me no clues as to what to expect. Spoling my rivals mojo and giving drivatars a distinct advantage! Also, the car is set to reverse after coming out of an event and into freeroam , though this is more intermittent.

Having the same experience, and itā€™s going from losing a second or two and having to adapt by shifting twice, to straight out being thrown in reverse and losing several, more and more frequently. Has been buggy lately in general, but Iā€™ve been playing since FM1 and this is the first time I can say Iā€™ve honestly encountered a glitch that made playing the game just blatantly frustrating and unenjoyable.

Canā€™t help but deduct poor QC process / vendor utilization. Was looking forward to the performance content this weekend; shame, I bet it wonā€™t be fixed.

For my part, turning it off until resolved. There are plenty of titles to sink my time in, now seems like a good time to explore them.

Been playing Horizon Open Custom Cross Cpuntry S1 all evening.
Manual, no clutch.

Had ZERO instances of double 1st shift.

Had ZERO instances of starting in reverse.

Random reverse gear start on exiting garage/house. More often than not was in reverse but not always.

Same issue here. Latest patch/update (high performance). 100%, I always need a double upshift at the start of a race. Controller. Any race, road, street, dirt, x-country. Any car. Bronco 2021, Focus 2017, Lancer 2008, Mustang 2018, GR Supra, Alpine 110, Lambo, Honda S2000.

I do end up in reverse out of the house and after race events. Not sure about 100% for this behavior. When it does happen. I need to upshift twice to get into first from reverse.

Windows 11, Steam version of Forza.

Also, been having this issue as well. Also been having an issue where I canā€™t even shift at all and I get stuck in either first gear or reverse and Iā€™m forced to restart the game which fixes it temporarily for about 30 minutes or less before it happens again. I also start races in reverse as well, and sometimes when I do start races in first, I have to shift up twice just to change gears. Iā€™m on XBOX Series X and I tried this with both steering wheel and shifter, and controller as well. It doesnā€™t matter which one you use, the bug is present on both.

I have the issue too.

  • When going to freeroam, the car sits in manual
  • At race starts the car starts in 1st gear but needs two taps of [shift up] to go to second gear

It seems to be LC related as Jezza said.

If driven multiple Tours with LC on and not once started in R. The strange thing is that itā€™s still doing it if I return to freeroam.

Since the last update I seem to be starting every race in REVERSE, today I even went backwards when coming out of my own house,
first noticed it when I tried to do the daily ā€™ win midnight Battle ā€™ yesterday.
Seems to have something to do with Launch Controlā€¦ I do not want to have LC set to ā€˜onā€™

Iā€™ve ruled out my steering wheel as the cause.

I thought I was losing my mind and it was something I was doing, or perhaps attributable to getting a new controller and something in the controller was causing the issue.

Very frustrating to start a race, hit the gas, and fly backward, instantly into 12th place. Double shifting to go from 1st to 2nd also happening for me.

Glad to see the developers are working on it. Such a wide-ranging and disadvantageous bug will surely move to the front of the line!

BTW, I play on a Series X.

New update new bugsā€¦ now when ever i come to freeroam the cars start in reverse when i use controller and same when using logitech shifter. So in races i need to spam shifting gears or else it will not work to shift from first to second
