Full rotational steering wheel physics/animation in FM?

I will Add, In Forza the Metacars are difficult to drive with the Wheel just because of Weak FFB, if the FFB will be increased you don’t have to turn the wheel, it will turn by itself without you helping it.

I am very familiar with drifting/ drift control on wheel and controller with both normal and simulation steering (you must not have seen any of my work) you were correct until the “but”.

you cannot go full lock instantly on a controller even with sim steering turned on, its simply not possible because the input filters on the gamepad as I already mentioned don’t allow it. you wouldn’t want it too anyway, if you started sliding slightly and you pushed the stick full counter steer you would instantly overcorrect which is very very bad.

I think this is more of a Forza Horizon topic than Motorsports as there’s no Drifting luckily in it.

It depends on how much the car is sliding; if your car is going straignt, car wheels lock to lock will be 5° off from the 0°(car direction), If the car is having a 20° drift left, your lock to lock will be 25° to the Left and 5° to the right. With the stick is a push to the Left, with the wheel is atleast a one rotation, but you have to stop it in the right direction, because it is not assisted.

You need a car to do drifting, is not required to have leaderboards , but in the future there will be also that and drags in FM8.
But the discussion is just related to che control of the vehicle.

still it’s kinda irrelevant, no drift car in real life comes with a controller. If drifting in a video game is harder with a wheel it’s just due to bugs.

Exactly! I hate this about Forza. When you steer normally, the speed sensitivy and steering limits/aids kick in. But when you countersteer, your steering is suddenly loose and feels like a free wheel with no resistance. What happenned to the speed sensitivity?!!

This is not realistic at all and Forza is the only game that does this. It’s almost as if the game is autocorrecting and countersteering for you every time you lose grip. Very cartoony and unrealistic.

If I want an easy arcade-style game, I’d just go to NFS or TD.

Why is Forza trying to be NFS/TD??

Immersion!
It’s all about Immersion!
And it simply looks (and feels) strange when I have my physikal steering wheel at 34° and the ingame wheel is at 6°.
And, we have 2023 not 1998

I just noticed that the steering wheel increased to +90° in the last trailer of the Grand Oak Raceway reveal, is it me or is it an allusion? At minute 0.15 of the trailer it is observed

It’s more than 90°

It looked like maybe 135 degrees to the left, which is fantastic.
Of course this does not mean that 900/full wheel rotation is in, but it’s very likely that it is increased from the 180 we’ve had forever, and that alone means that Turn 10 has listened.

Massive W

It could also be the fact that every car has its own steering rotation based on what is irl. Maybe some cars will have greater rotation than others

At least in the video, the driver took his left hand off of the steering wheel, and the wheel did not seem to encounter a hard stop, during the animation. Definite improvement!

Whether this is applied to all the cars has yet to be confirmed. If not, then I would at least want the option to hide the driver and have the wheel match what my steering wheel is doing.

Edit: Correction. Watching it at full speed, it looks like the wheel did encounter a hard stop.

We’ve seen 180 degrees one way in earlier footage and I don’t think that formula Mazda hit a stop, the player probably just stopped turning. I’m pretty sure it will at least be 360 degree wheel rotation, and I’m happy with that tbh.

It will be full rotation in the fictional track reveal you can see finger cross over ready to do full rotation, so it’s probably gonna be full.

what time into the video? this FM7… 2 years back

I also noticed that the left hand looked poised to cross over the right arm and grab the wheel. Fingers crossed that full steering animation makes it into the game…

If steering animations is too “whatever” to pull off in FM8 then I’d still like options to hide the driver and just have the steering wheel shown. It’s something I am used to in RaceRoom, which also suffers from a 180º animation lock. It’s not the perfect solution, but it’s a heck of a lot better than having a driver death gripping a steering wheel with limited animation. Without the driver, the steering wheel is in sync with what my steering wheel… Ok mostly in sync. LOL. There’s always milliseconds of lag.

Raceroom has full animation I recall… not 90 left 90 right unless your have wrong settings.

Edit - Checked ingame after reinstalling, it’s 180 left and 180 right in RaceRoom, that’s twice of FM7.

42-43 seconds in he comes to a hard stop at 90°. In the Forza Monthly the greater steering lock can be found at 11:42.

Yup. I forgot that its 180º in both directions, but it’s still limited. Trust me when I say, it’s been years since I saw the drivers’ arms in RaceRoom. LOL
