Why do we still have 180 degree wheel turning?

Hello everybody,

Always exciting when a new installment of FM pops up. However I’m mildly impressed.
Largely because of the fact that probably my biggest gripe with the game has been the
extremely limited 180 degree turning angle on the steering wheel.

Is there any chance this would still change, has any heard T10 speak about this in interviews?
Because I really wanna know whether the at all want to adress this issue.

I would love to get some feedback, thanks in advance.

One of the biggest things I want to change. It’s been since FM3 (when it introduced cockpit view) and I guess FM7 will not make exeption, but I really hope.

Edit: 180 degree cockpit steering wheel lock-to-lock just tells one thing; Forza is made for gamepad, not for steering wheel.

Well, I don’t have steering wheel for Xbox One, and I will not buy if FM7 still have 180 degrees wheel. I just can’t deal that it doesn’t move 1:1 to my real wheel.

It is sad that they refuse to acknowledge this as a real issue. Other sims and even non-sim racing games are already doing this so I don’t know why T10 is taking it lightly. Wheel animation is SO important from the cockpit cam. And BTW, the game doesn’t have 180 degree wheel movement but only 90 degrees in either direction; 180 would mean you’d see the driver’s hands crossing over around hairpins and relatively sharper turns.

Just sad. Apart from improved cockpit detail, the animation haven’t evolved much since FM3. I can never get good turn in or racing lines around corners using the cockpit cam because of how unconvincing and toy car-like the wheel animation looks. They threw in a zoomed in dash view that rids the wheel completely from your perspective. A shortcut if you ask me, rather than implementing full 900, 540 and 360 degree animation respectively.

This is something that I would love to see fixed being a wheel user, still a chance to implement it but it would take a huge effort to model 700+ cars with 900° steering wheel rotation now.

Won’t bother me on FM7,since I can get rid of the wheel in cockpit now.

I’ve seen some cockpit view footage from E3 and all I can say is that I’m totally speechless. The driver still only rotates the wheel 180 degrees (90 to the left and right). This is beyond me. The cockpit view appeared first in Forza Motorsport 3 and after all this time they still can’t implement proper steering wheel animation in the game. This is so ridiculous. Every other driving game in the world can do it but not Forza. It just looks laughable now after so many iterations. It seems to me that there haven’t been any updates to the driving model at all.

Yeah but changing over to a view without a steering wheel isn’t a solution, I and I guess others really want to see this problem dealt with.
I appreciate you guys response, always nice to know I’m not alone in thinking this…

Because of this i dont use cockpit view. To distacting with the limmited animation.

Dash cam might solve that now.

It doesn’t affect me either but I mean come on. Simulation fans have requested this for eons. And graphics aside this just reinforces that the driving model hasn’t changed which is even more disappointing.

They add things like flappy mirrors, shakky gearbox and windshildwipers for extra immersion, but at the same time kills all the imersion with the terrible rotation animation :frowning:

Look at Project cars and Assetto corsa, those games have proper steering wheel animations.
I think it a shame that Forza 7 steering is just the same as F6 (and F5 and F4 and F3).

Literary a lack of innovation.

I agree, and they over did the windshield wipers IMO they shake way to much. Luckily their will be a new dash cam, but I am very disappointed about the animations.

I played Driver: San Francisco in 2011 and they had proper steering wheel animation.
This was one of the main features that I was expecting from the franchise.
Real shame there has been no innovation at all since Forza Motorsport 3.

I think not having this totally breaks the immersion of cockpit driving especially with a wheel.

Even though I would love to have a 900 degree steering wheel animation, it doesn’t really bother me as you rarely go past 90 degrees each side, especially when driving an LMP or F1 car and honestly, I may just use Dash Cam now, we’ll see how that goes. It’s not a solution, no but I think the dash cam will help most get over the 90 degree each way animation.

I like the new animations, I just think they need to be toned down.

What if the player generally prefers to drive road cars? Around hairpins, you’d be actually going past 180 degrees and while drifting, it would look AMAZING to see the driver frantically fighting the wheel going 360 degrees and beyond in either direction, to maintain a slide.

Furthermore, even on non-hairpin turns, you might find yourself turning the wheel well past 90 degrees to quickly get a nice turn in, right before applying throttle and a bit of opposite lock to power out of a turn. I absolutely detest this plastic toy car animation. It looks really dull and unimaginative. It is a crucial aspect of cockpit view immersion and unless we collectively raise our voices, it will continue to get pushed back on their priority list even by the time FM9 comes around.

Why even have a cockpit view if the wheel and gear changes are not animated in a believable way? Instead they are focusing on cockpit movement (which is actually good) and wiper wobble? Really?? The wipers wobbling around is more important than realistic looking wheel animation?

only that you don’t actually hold the wheel all the time. you let it slide through your hands and let it do its thing with the caster, then catch it and start making small corrections. They will definitly not animate that though.

The Mercedes Benz truck seems to have well animated gear shifts. Look at 13:19

That looks pretty good. I wish all the needed cars look as good as that.

I agree the wheel animation needs improvement, specially the female arms look uncanny (flabby).
