Framerate drops in freeroam when deformable terrain is set to High or higher

Title.

Basically whenever I’m in the open world, My FPS is stable for about 10 minutes, then they drop into the low 10s, then stabilize for a while at around 30, then they return back to what I capped it to (which is 72 right now), then the cycle repeats over and over (until i get annoyed and play something else). I’ve done everything at that point (GPU driver reset, rolling back to a previous driver version, reinstalling the game, etc.) BEFORE I thought to check the in-game settings. Checked said in-game settings, ran a benchmark test, showed stability, went back into the game, same issue occurs. This went on until I set deformable terrain quality from Ultra down to Medium. Bam, no more lag spikes and frame drops. Tested it on High settings, same problem occurred. Reverted to Medium, problem goes away.

Gonna give the devs the benefit of a doubt and assume it’s my hardware but please tell me if i’m not the only one with this problem

TL;DR: deformable terrain quality breaks something in the game and tanks my frames

PC SPECS:

CPU: Intel Core i5-10300H
GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 6GB
RAM: 16GB 2666mhz dual-channel
Drive where the game is installed: 1TB SSD
OS: Windows 11 Home

You need to use MSI Afterburner on screen display to check the GPU usage, for a 2060, i’d aim for 60 fps v-sync on this game with high to ultra settings, remember to set your monitor mode to 60 Hz before playing the game. A game like this doesn’t need more than 60 fps; anything else is a luxury.

Yes, your frames tank because you either have other settings to high or your 2060 is getting to its limits quite hard. It’s not a bad GPU, but for today’s standards, i think this a 60 fps GPU and that’s it, maybe it can give 75 fps on a 75 Hz screen, but even then, it’s tough, games are very demanding. Don’t make your GPU suffer, know its limits.

I don’t have any issues with it, i use it on all of my games, it’s perfect to watch temps in real time and RivaTuner is ideal for adjusting framerate lock on the fly, the fact that you think it’s problematic doesn’t mean it is, everyone experience is different. Pretty much al Forza Horizon 5 benchmark videos use this program, so i don’t see the “wrong move”.
