Open world stuttering

Sorry if this has been posted before. But I haven’t found anyone with the exact problem I am having.

First, my rig.

Ryzen 5 1600
1060 3gb
16gb RAM

I’ve been using the preset which defaulted me to medium settings at 60fps and 1080p. During races and such, the fps is a solid 60. It looks and plays perfectly. My computer aced the benchmark test with these settings. This game already runs much better than FH3 did.

Outside of races however, the game gets occasional stuttering. It’s common enough to make me post about since it’s only happening maybe every 20 minutes or so. The game pauses for a second or 2 then goes right back to 60fps. It was super obvious when I went looking for the first barn find when my car hit a jump and paused in the air before tumbling down the mountainside. This is a jarring experience, let me tell you. Since I am still in the tutorial phase (winter atm) I’ve seen this happen in Summer, Autumn, and Winter now.

At first I thought this was caused by my internet connection which was going in and out last night. But I haven’t confirmed that yet.

Do you guys have any idea which setting I could drop to prevent these stutters?

At first I thought you have the same Problem as me, I get Framedrops when UI-elements pop-up in the open World (Combo Point Stuff etc.).
It’s weird that this happens only after a pretty long time (20min) for you. Are all your drivers up to date? Especially the Driver for the Graphics Card? Also an old Chipsetdriver can cause this, in your case the AMD-Ryzen.

I’ll check the drivers, the GPU is up to date. But I haven’t checked the CPU in a bit.

And it could be the UI elements. I haven’t narrowed down the commonality between the stuttering yet.

There’s an option to turn off the UI-Element for Combo Points ind “HUD and Gameplay” Turn it off and try again, if this should be the cause.

Alright. I’ll give that a shot tonight. Thanks.

Did it work for you?

Yeah, the framedrops are gone for me.

If it works, it kinda sucks that you have to do without the helpful combo counter.

Wow. It is the same bug. As soon as I turned off the Combo UI, the stuttering stopped. I played for nearly 4 straight hours and it didn’t hitch like it used to at all.

Thank you for this.

This solution needs to be spread far and wide since I spent much of the last week messing around with graphics settings until I realized that I never tried your method.

Also, devs…when can this bug be fixed?

Bumping this thread because the solution worked for me and might work for other people too.

Edit, again.

The hitching started again in Spring now and actually stopped when I turned the combo UI back on. So, for the record, I turned it off and played lag free for 4 hours only to have it hitch again the next day. I turn it back on and it’s lag free again. I give up.
