Forza 5 handling - just doesn't seem right

G’day everyone

Recently acquired an Xbox one after having a very long lapse in gaming and/or online gaming - it’s a time thing or lack thereof. Ok so here’s the rub… I’ve bought Forza five and the Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 TX racing wheel (wheel and pedals). From the outset can I say that Forza 5 is without a doubt the best looking console game I have seen. I commend the effortthe guys at Turn Ten went to, to make this game look the way it does. In my opinion, the detail and drawing distance on the Bathurst track is unrivalled! So congrats to the team at Turn Ten. But as gorgeous as it looks there are some serious downsides which I’m trying to reckon with. I’ve read numerous threads about handling issues related to Forza 5 and I must admit I’m having difficulties with the game as well. I’ve read a lot of threads about changing the various settings in the game and I have tried all of these. The main issue for me is the lack of traction or grip the majority of cars have on the track and also the lack of adjustment for brake pedal sensitivity or progression. A slight depression in the Thrustmaster 458 brake pedal and the braking force is quite significant. If there is ever an update for Forza Five in the future, can you please include a brake sensitivity or progression bar in the Advanced settings menu, so racers can set the pedals up according to there personal preferences. Personally, I like to utilise the full brake travel length, so if I depress the pedal half way, then I have 50% braking force. If it’s down all the way then 100% - I trust you understand what I mean. Currently
this is not possible with the lack of adjustment options within the game.

On the issue of handling I am finding it beyond challenging to drive, say the Ford V8 Supercar around Bathurst. Ive driven this track numerous times in NFS Shift 2, and found that type of handling model very easy to accustom to and allowed for great multiplayer gameplay. I’ve even gone out and bought Project Cars last week and driven around the Bathurst track to get a comparison between it and Forza Five. The Project Cars driving model is much more forgiving and to be honest, much more enjoyable. The way Forza Five is set up at the moment I can’t match my lap times in Project Cars, and where I would normally accelerate in or out of corners, I have to be very careful not to loose the backend. I should be able to accelerate hard out of the right corner in third, on the first hill climb on the Bathurst track. If I try this in Forza I typically loose traction on the back end and fishtail. Similarly, same thing happens on other sections of the track - and yes I have traction control and stability control and ABS on, and deadzones set from 0 - 100. It maybe a case that the tyre modelling needs to be adjusted so these cars ha extra grip.

At the end of the day, my experience with Forza Five is not an enjoyable one and whilst I don’t speak for everyone, I think the team at Turn Ten need to address the numerous threads concerning handling difficulties. Because if they don’t, then they risk loosing people like myself, to other racing games like Project Cars. If there is two things the team at Turn Ten can do in the upcoming Forza Six, is expand the Advanced settings menu to include brake and accelerator pedal sensitivity, and resolve the handling issue. I’ve watched numerous ‘in car’ footage of V8 Supercars racing around the Bathurst track. These cars are driven very hard and have lots of grip. I’ve watched where the gear changes occur and at what speed, and try to match that within the game. Project cars allows me to get very close to those numbers without loosing grip. Forza five does not. To the team at Turn Ten please rectify these issues. listen to what the community is telling you. please don’t tell me that its realism etc etc. make the game enjoyable, but not so challenging where you players loose interest. Take care.
