Until a year ago, i had the same reaction, but then i tried other racing games with my wheel like Project CARS, Dirt Rally and i realized how bad the ffb was in Forza.
And with Forza 6 thinks got even worse. Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2 were not great but ok, playable.
Playable until you keep getting a message saying to many files of this type for no reason even after you delete all paintjobs and sell some cars and get rid of some tunes lol.
And also it doesn’t really do much help to compare FM6 to FH2 or FH3 seeing they are different games made by different companies. Turn10 makes the motorsport series and playground games makes the Horizon series so the FFB is going to be different as so do the way the cars handle between the two game series. yes I wish that some cars handle in FM6 like they did in FH2 but that will never happen. And wheel users wish that the FFB was the same as previous games, but like PTG Baby Cow said that it could have been a last minute thing added to the game that was over looked or never really tested to the extent of an actual race car or road car handles. They try their best to make people happy with their game but not every one is pleased with stuff. And plus yall have to think they most likely test the dozens of wheels out there available for yall to purchase and they have to test everything to get that wheel to work with the game and that FFB prob wasn’t one of the major priority of things to check on the wheels that they were able to get working right with the game. Saying you wont buy it 3 months before it released if the FFB isn’t the way they want it to be before they even played the game themselves going off what other people say. So far one person is saying its worse than FM6 while another person is saying its better than FM6 FFB. They cant please everyone at the same time so they have to make sacrifices on stuff like this. They still have 3 months to go till the games release and prob about 2 and half months till demo if there is one and even after the demo release they get feedback from that and if the FFB is still horrible they can fix it before the game comes out and release a day one patch/update to fix it from the feedback they get from people who play the demo. So going off what people say 3 months before the release of the game is kinda dumb. They even get feedback from people who played it at E3 so they could fix it before the demo comes out.
Soules, the reason people are saying 3 months in advance that they wont purchase it if it is the same is to give them a chance to change it, and also because ffb hasnt changed imo in forza since forza 4 (when i started using a wheel). History says its going to be no different in horizon. However, im hopnig i am wrong, and its the same reason that apex was not released with wheel support, so they could completely revamp their ffb system. Being that most games at E3 arent complete they could have taken the exact same ffb system from from forza 6 just to have something to showcase with a wheel at the event.
I see what you are saying, but at E3 when they display correct me if im wrong but don’t they only display the playable game using Fanatec’s $600 forza wheel? The FFB system is different on that setup compared to what other wheel users use at home unless they have the same wheel as the one used at E3. A thrustmaster has a different feeling compared to the Fanatec wheel seeing the fanatic wheel is more complex and built different.
The only differences with the wheels in forza, is as you spend more money the actual wheel has more adjustments. Once again it comes down to options and when it comes to forza you have 3, dor, vibration strength and ffb strength. Fanatec and thrustmaster wheels have their own settings for some of these so you’re able to make things a little better, but when you look at other racing games they have many more that can be tweaked and this is what forza is missing.
The only thing i could say is shut off the vibration to your controller and play the game. It will feel weird but eventually youll get used to it, thats basically what its like using a wheel in forza. It feels weird compared to other games, but eventually you do get used to it, the problem people are having is why should they have to at this point.
Theres a stickied thread about the wheels, im pretty sure its like 50 pages and the 3rd or 4th most viewed thread. To act as though this isnt a problem for many people is being a little naive. I also hate the fact that at e3 they do have these booths setup with options that arent even available to people. Last year they had triple screens, there is no triple screen support, they also have a motion rig, also not supported.
This year the rig makers requested an fov change which is what they have shown and is what everyone wants but as of right now its not available in the game. Playground games has stated that many people have asked about it so theyll look into it or whatever, but im not going to get my hopes up.
I don’t see why they do stuff like that and not implement it in the final game at all. That makes people really mad about it. Like what was it Splintercell Conviction they showed a few E3’s ago and the the gameplay they showed showed sam fisher walking around like he poo’ed in his pants and when the game finally came out that mission was no where to be found in the game and same thing happened with Ghost Recon Future soldier, show a video and the graphics where a lot better than what it was when the game came out but then again that’s like 99% of games shown at E3 lol. If you want Turn10 or Playground Games to actually listen you would have to email them or contact them direct, Seeing they really don’t come on the forums all that much, seeing that there are hundreds of threads which have multiple of the same topics so I can see why they try and stay away from the forums as much as they can. Ive raced with no vibration on my controller but not intentionally only when the batteries get so low that the vibration cuts off automatically. A true Forza Fan doesn’t abandon the game cause one little problem they can fix even after the game, instead they just deal with that problem and enjoy the game as is. I would rather use a wheel than a controller seeing im not really enjoying forza like most that use a wheel, but im not not going to buy the game cause I use a controller, I enjoy the game as is with what I have at the time being.
I honestly think theres nothing wrong with someone stating they wont get horizon 3 because of the ffb. This will be the fourth forza with these next gen wheels, and odds are no substantial changes will be made. If you dont use a wheel you really shouldnt comment on things like this. Theres many people who cant race without using a wheel, so the way the wheel controls are implemented is a big deal for them.
They also havent had to test many wheels, only a handful work on xbox to begin with. A perfect example is the fact that forza apex has not implemented wheel support is because the wheel list is so small. Im willing to bet its less than 10% of people use xbox supported wheels.
A similiar situation happened to pcars but it was the opposite, the wheel worked but the controller had/has issues. Im sure when pcars 2 or any other racing game designed around a wheel comes out many people who dont own wheels will think twice about getting them, as they should.
The truth is when using a wheel, theres more to it than ffb. Besides most games having more options for ffb, they also usually allow for automatic dor (degrees of rotation), another thing is adjustable fov(field of view). Forza lacks all of these options and it is a problem. For some people bigger than others.
Any one can comment on whatever they want its called freedom of speech. So you found me guilty of Freedom Of Speech. Seeing I used to use a wheel on the 360 but since the the Xbox one came out I haven’t had the $$$ to afford one seeing I have Bills to pay like house payment, car payment, water, electric, internet, etc. Gotta feed the family and provide a roof for the family before anything else. I race better with a wheel but cant afford one at the moment so I deal with a controller till I can get one.
I wouldnt call someone not a true forza fan because they dont like something about the game and dont want to spend money on sometging they dont support. I know many people who contributed a lot to the game whether it was painting, tuning, helping people on the forums etc etc who were huge forza fans until they weren’t, it happens.
Theres a number of reasons why these people have left, but the thing they had in common was that they didnt like the direction the game was going and they chose to move on.
Turn 10 has consistently flip flopped as to what motorsport is, sometimes they say its a hardcore simulation other times they say its not. On one hand they market it to wheel users by having forza branded wheels and dlc packs named after wheel companies, but on the other it lacks basic wheel options that any modern racer has.
Im sure they know many people are unhappy with the wheel implementation, they have been for quite some time. Petitioning and emailing them is not going to change anything. Its their game, they choose what options are available and whats not. Its up to the consumers to decide whether to support the game or not, so if someone has a wheel and doesnt like the implementation of it in forza they shouldnt buy the game.
As far as your financial situation, thats life and gaming being a hobby it most certainly should take a back seat to real life. I think one of the reasons why people are so upset about the wheel issue is because of exactly what you said, they have other responsibilities, they owned a wheel for 360 which for whatever reasons doesnt work on the one, they bought a new expensive wheel with a new expensive system only to find out it doesnt work well.
At first many people were confused as to what the problem was because the wheels worked right on the pc, so no one new if it was a xbox issue or a wheel issue. With other titles coming out on the one people have the answer to that question and its a forza problem, not anything else. It is very frustrating and with this being the 4th installment of forza with these supposedly necessary next gen wheels, the same issues still exist with no response as to if it is being looked into or not.
The fact that it hasnt changed leads me to believe it wont ever be changed. I was hoping with them making forza on pc’s that they’d improve it, but from what it seems like, its exactly the same as its been and its just very disappointing.
Just to be clear, I did not buy the TX just for Forza and Forza only. I bought the TX because I wanted a wheel that is compatible with Forza.
Oh, and I’m sorry, but the reasoning ‘Why did you buy a wheel if you knew Forza’s FFB was bad’ makes absolutely no sense. The point is Turn10 know the force feedback doesn’t work as it should, and yet they did nothing about it, and never, in a million years will I believe them if they say it works as it should, as they have said a few times now. By that logic, games would never progress and all of them stay the same with no new features or fixes. If Turn10 advertise a wheel which supposedly works perfectly well with Forza, I expect the FFB to be at least decent, not perfect, but at least works decently. We pay that much money for a game, and for different console peripherals, why shouldn’t it be fixed or updated? Is it really that difficult? I don’t think so, because other games with a quarter of their budget have managed to implement an FFB system that feels as smooth as whipped cream.
Games like Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, Live For Speed and Automobilista beg to differ that Forza’s FFB is anywhere close to decent.
Playground games have listened so much to the community with all the new features in FH3, this is a must.
We have every right to publicly show our disatisfaction with wheel support. The fact that we had to buy new wheels for the xbox one that have no technical advantages over our 360 wheels (which could easily work with a simple update btw) and ffb was still EXTREMELY POOR despite the PR advertising bull that microstructure published regarding this move to lock out old peripherals.
FFB in every forza game to date has basically the same except for forza 6, and 6 was their attempt at redoing the FFB and IMO made it worse overall. Until they get someone on the team that actually has good vision for what FFB should deliver (someone like Neils? I wish) I doubt we are going to get something that feels good and direct. And that to me is sad, because I can think easily of what forces should act on the wheel and what canned stuff can be layered on top, I wish I new how to code it because I would do it myself and send it to them.
