I’m normally a Horizon fan, but I’m interested in everyone’s take on FM6, especially those that have played all the Forza Motorsport (not comparing the Horizon games).
what is the opinion of 6 after spending time in 5? the graphics are better in 5 than previously but there’s a fun factor missing in 5… in fact it reminds me that, with FM7 due this year, FM2 was actually ‘fun’.
please share your opinions of FM6 I don’t know if I’ll do another FM again. do I give it another chance, I dunno, like I said, Horizon is ‘fun’.
I went straight from 4 to 6. They were definitely different games, and I prefer some elements of each. But all in all, I’ve enjoyed 6 quite thoroughly, it’s not without some flaws, but I’ve had it since release and continue to play every chance I get and likely will until 7 comes out.
I agree with this. FM6 is far superior to FM5 thanks to a lot more content. I’m torn between FM3, FM4 and FM6 in terms of picking a favorite, they are all lots of fun. And while it’s by no means perfect, I would suggest getting FM6 because it’s still a great game.
No doubt each game is technically superior to its predecessor in terms of modelling and graphics.
However, we have lost out in terms of simple good old fashioned gameplay along the way. It isn’t pretty pictures or a car detailed to within a millimetre that makes a game compelling and keeps a player going back to it. It’s the fun factor. I’m not talking here about the carcophony of rediculously disjointed bits and pieces that make up FH, but simply the fun of competing on a decent range of tracks in some reasonably believable cars.
On a slightly related note, the current physics may be the most accurately calculated to date but although T10 put a lot of time and effort into determining the coefficients of different tires and road surfaces they didn’t quite spend enough time analysing what happens to a car once one or more tires starts to loose grip. As a result, cars on the edge just don’t behave correctly and once grip/traction is lost you can’t get it back as you would driving a real car. It’s almost like they’ve decided tires melt the moment they under or over rotate. and of course they just don’t.
I concur. FM4 lost its fun with the amount of time consuming races. each games platform changes a bit, too… better or different type of argument there.
‘carcophony’ funny entendre.
glad to hear praises for FM6… I believe this is all great feedback for consumers and Turn10.
@dadiodude your feedback on tire failure is super fine! wow impressive.
that’s funny. Seriously though… 2017 what a day. Been doin 3D animation since the 80s/90s… in a 3D world, want to max out your space for data… make the PC CRUNCH HARD… 4 8 MB of ram ($1000 a M to upgrade)… 400MB… whatever… try adding a tree… wait…render…wait a week… Image of scene with 1 tree.
3D 2D 5D 1D WD40 … I’m pleased the smaller ones don’t bring the car to crashing halt anymore.
Forza 6 is easily my favourite in the series thanks to it’s abundance of race cars and relevant series to race them in. Other Forza games had race cars but they lacked any true structure to race them in, whereas now we have a proper IndyCar series, three generations of F1, touring cars, GT, LMP, Can-Am, Formula E, V8C etc. I find racing in these series far more appealing than random track days in production cars as the traditional formula has been in the past.
Looking into DLC we’ve had 90’s IndyCar, 80’s F1 and racing trucks added, among others, and I’m incredibly stoked to see how Forza continues to build on it’s selection of racecars this year in Forza 7.
glad to hear that!
it’s been a truly wild loopy direction Forza has taken as far as racing structure (just as you said even) from FM2-FM5, so fresh to hear excitement about FM6 in these areas, the FM4 layout still freaks me out. I don’t even want to race.
yeah, I too am anxious to see what FM7 has… another 442 '66!
as far as FM6 DLC, is the suggestion to get the whole potato, vip-season pass etc? there are 3 dlc cars I would like for FM5 and they’re all in separate packs, so there it is right there, all things considered equal… that scenario nearly entices me to get everything, my logic on it sucks I admit.
FM5 was trash and FM3 was ruined by awd swapping madness.
Even though FM6 has far superior visuals, the most diverse car selection, and nearly perfect physics…it doesnt trump two older forzas that were designed to be fun and both had features that just made the game flow well.
FM6 has closed the gap in my eyes with FM2 primarily due to FM6 taking part in esports and because the PI calculations are for the most part better. But FM2 had the better single player while FM6 has a repetitive nonsensical design.
Idk if FM7 will meet the gold standard FM4 set with features, but I’m thinking since FM6 on some fronts moved in the right direction it may be #2 on my list.
Pretty close for me as well. FM4 > FM6 > FH3 > FM2 > FM3 > FH2 > FM5 > FH
My only real complaint with FM6 is car limit (size limit on game save I believe). I like to collect every car and unfortunately on the Xbox One that is not an option. Little annoying.
Otherwise FM6 is fantastic. I enjoy the overall layout of the “campaign” better in Forza 4, and while FM6 multiplayer is catching up I still enjoyed 4 better so far.
That said I enjoy the details in FM6, the overall UI layout, the car physics, etc… The drivatars are okay, I do prefer them to FM4 AI, but they are also still far from perfect (especially scaling which seems to be getting worse and worse with each game release since 5).
Overall though I have still spent countless hours on every Forza release. I’d say my least favorite Forza so far is Forza Horizon 1. Forza Horizon 3 is quite a great game, for me I would put it above FM2 but below FM4/6.
Personally if they do go the direction of PCars I hope they make it optional. I don’t have the time, patience, or interest in doing Practice runs and time trials and Positioning etc… I also didn’t enjoy Pcars much at all so it is definitely a very different person they are targetting. I can’t even honestly put my finger on what turned me off so much about PCars but my interest did not last long, I LOVE Forza and I would hate for them to change that drastically.
Thats all im asking for is some more sim options. I dont always want that hardcore race weekend experience, but sometimes i do. Pcars does give you these options, you dont have to practice or qualify but you can if youd like.
Im also interested to see what dirt 4 does with regards to their physics. Supposedly its going to have dirt rallys more sim like physics but have options to dumb it down for those that want to. I hope forza 7 does something similar. As it stands now even with all assists off, not everything is really off.
I’ve played them all with the exception of FM5 because I still had the 360 going and FM4 and felt no need to upgrade.
FM1 was a pretty rudimentary arcade game probably released just to compete with Gran Turismo. The graphics look extremely dated now.
FM2 brought the series to the 360/PS3 generation with better graphics and a fully developed game. A big improvement over FM1
FM3 is what I consider to be the first proper Motorsport game of the series. Everything was vastly improved over FM2.
FM4 is for many the best game of the series and one that most people have good memories of mainly because of the community aspect of the game. The single player was nice but felt endless and just suited to whatever car you happened to have active.
FM6 has the most important features of FM4 with much improved graphics and a working although simplified weather system. It seems to me at least that there is much more to do and more varied events in FM6 making this my favorite game of the series.
What were those most important features? The general consensus from what I’ve gathered is that FM6 lacks all of the most important features from FM4. I’m completely puzzled with that comment.
Interesting points about the career mode. The showcases in FM6 are for the most part better than FM4 but the actual career mode in FM6 is repetitive with no real structure. The only restrictions were that car choice was limited by car division.
In FM4 is was pretty repetitive as well (in terms of some tracks that came up) but you had a mix of events that were very restrictive (such as only one car that was stock), semi restrictive (similar to divisions in FM6 with class and car selection limits), class based with open car choice, oval only, ring only, and drag only etc. FM6 career is pretty limited and is insanely repetitive with track rotation. You basically have to beat the game 6 times with the only change being the divison choice. I started the 2nd play through and I had to quit.
It has the features that are more important to me to be more accurate. Things like the auction house I don’t really care if they are there or not. Online was better in FM4 but I rarely race online. The showcases and endurance events in FM6 are a lot of fun. If they bring dynamic weather, more tracks, and a means of blue printing your own championships FH style, FM7 will be all I need.
Ahh ok. Yea, championships in general would be nice and blueprinting them to suit cars you like…amazing! That’s my gripe with endurances in FM6. Race cars bore me after 30 minutes or so and I’d love to be able to drive what I love for 3 hours straight.
Even after my initial tirade on FM6’s career structure I do enjoy the game but not as much as FM4. The GHOST leagues are a very fun factor for me as I do not enjoy walking into a public room and having to duck when 4-6 drivers are swinging 2x4’s at my head every race.
FM6, for the endurance showcases and the parts of career that were based off of real racecars was great. The lowere level 2-3 lap must get 3rd was frustrating and led to an angry drivitar being trained.
FM3 career style was more for me even if some what restricted. FM4 the career was to weird with the difficulty of AI constantly changing based on last race performance. Online in FM4 was great to the point that I never purchased FM5.
Unfortunately for me everytime I tried to load FM2 ( several copies ) my 360 would sound like a freight train and freeze up. Liked FM1 as the damage factor is what stole me away from Sony and the GT series on Playstation. All in all the FM series is myost played games and tje ones I am most passionate about. So, obviously Microsoft and Turn10 have done many things right with the series. I am looking forward to FM7 although it will share time now with tje Pcars series.
I’ve been playing since FM2. Before that I was a GT player for many years (since 97) before I jumped ship for Forza.
Imo, FM6 lacks the depth a racing game needs. I could be just bitter that it hasn’t really evolved into the racing game I was expecting it to be, but I still believe they aren’t really heading in a good direction with this series.
6/10 game at best imo, it looks and sounds nice but that doesn’t make a game good. I’ve been playing the newest iterations of this series less and less over the years, so at this rate if FM7 is more of the same we’ve seen on Xbox One then i’m probably done with this series all together.
