Finish current lap in Timed races

I have spotted that Timed Races still end exactly on the clock running to 0.00, regardless of where you are on the Track.
In most, if not all Real World Timed Racing formats such as yunno the LE MANS 24 HOUR, when the clock hits zero, the drivers are supposed to at least finish the lap that they are on.
There have been variations on this, such as Formula E during Gen 2 running races at 45 minutes + 1 lap at the end of the lap completed first AFTER the time elapsed.

I would like to see more realistic race setups including Timed Races running like this.

I had this gripe about Forza Motorsport 7 too. I did initially wonder if this was something difficult to do in a game format, but then I played Assetto Corsa Competizione, and that literally uses this format.

Every game and real life timed event I’ve seen, whether it’s practice, qualifying or the actual race, all cars are able to finish their current lap when the timer expires, not abruptly mid fight. This has got to be changed in FM.

Please change the Ending of Time Based races. We Need to have the Final Lap (Mesured against the Leader) to be completed in Order to End the Race. It does Not make any Sense to habe the Screen gut to Black in the middle of a lap Just because the Timer went to 0.
this is Not How any racing has ever worked and it is absoluty unbelievable that this is how time based races work still.

I’m with this. Always wanted it in FM7 to make time based endurance more senseable and realistic.

Please also vote to extend this to apply to flying laps in practice and quali sessions when the timer reaches 0:00!

I’ve noticed that when you race in the race timer mode the race end once the timer runs out.
It would be more realistic if you needed to finish the current lap to end the race.

I fully agree - I want to add that in Timed Race we have no lap counter either (I see that it’s measured by distance)

Also, please could we have more time acceleration so I can have a reasonable length 24 hour race?

In Free Play timed races please add an option that cars must cross the start/finish line to end the race.

Currently the race ends when the timer runs out. But this is not how real-world timed races usually work.

Once the timer runs out, all cars must then cross the finish line to end their race.

My personal preference would be to keep the current race end timer triggered by the winner but it will only apply to those players who have not yet crossed the finish line and their race will immediately end once they cross it even if they are a/several laps down.
This would mirror a real life race end: The winner crossing the finish line would signal the race end and all cars crossing the line after them, regardless of how many laps they completed, will then finish the race too.
This would eliminate the current issue of having to wait for lapped cars finishing whatever number of laps they are behind the leader.

Agreed :+1:t3::100:

fully agree, in private multiclass race, it’s a nightmare to match the different car class.
If we choose a number of lap race, the fastest car have to wait, looongtime, on black screen
If we choose a time race, the race cut in random place, we should almost be able to finish the lap (like in real race)

Yes, this is how timed races should work.

The Forza implementation is not fit for purpose and hasn’t been for over 15 years.

No real-life race forces cars to stop the second the clock hits zero, in order to read the odometer and calculate results.

This finishing behaviour is why I refuse to play timed races at all, and also why my little club will never host any.

I watched the IMSA races on VIR last weekend. The races were 2h40mins or 1h long (depending on class). When the timer runs out and the overall leader crosses start/finish they start the final lap. At the end of the final lap they get the checkered flag.
Positioning is based upon the gap to the leader (in class), counted in seconds, minutes or laps. Distance traveled isn’t looked at (excluding Le Mans '66).

Penalties are still time based and are applied on pit stops, or at the end of the race as you still have to cross the finish line. They are not distance based.

This same format is used in pretty much every timed race, all over the world (sometimes the final lap is excluded).
Please T10, update your format to match this!

This is something that is way more preferable than how FM23 ends a timed race. I am all for it.

I agree; it’s a small gripe but almost every real life racing dicipline (that I know of) lets everyone cross the finish line when the clock hits zero after the leader crosses.

I believe it would be interesting, and I think many will agree, that after automatically ending the race time, all classes would have one more lap to complete the race in the same way as it happens in the real world.

In my opinion, it is a very simple feature to add to the game and would increase immersion.

i dont think its ever done this in the nearly 20 years that forza as a whole has existed. it really ought to though, because it makes way more sense.

I particularly miss multiplayqer games with more realism (damage to car components, need to stop to change tires).

I think there should be a category of gameplay called “SIMULATION” where all players would be playing with minimum simulation settings and the races would be longer.

I completely agree with you! This issue has been raised for quite some time, with many players voicing their support, but it still hasn’t been addressed. Allowing drivers to finish the lap after the clock hits zero would add a lot of realism to the timed races, making the experience much more immersive. It’s something that would greatly enhance the overall racing setup, and it’s definitely important for improving the quality of the racing experience.
