FH5 1 Year Review Poll & Discussion

Yeah, I’ve mentioned the idiotic drag race drivatars.
Any car, you can run let’s say 16.00 sec, +/- .01.
Only change is skill level, you’ll never catch same cars running exactly same time. Class, tune, car doesn’t matter.
FH3 had awesome live drags. I never drag raced until then, had a lot of fun. I’m very consistent, the drivatar algorithm is trash.

I just got something on my mind. What do you think if they removed the difficulty for drag racing and instead added a drag racing raiting on the car itself similar to how offroad raiting works?

That would make it a lot more clear which car is good and which isnt. If they could implement that into their engine would be amazing

Other games’s AI is probably on the same level of quality if not worse.

Horizon having this really solid handling model that they’ve been refining for years imagine if they spend their time refining the AI behaviour . I think the bar is just higher. I mean after all this is a racing game right? They’ve bragged in the past about their AI and how good it is. But it doesnt hold on to as well nowadays. Or maybe it was just a marketing thing? …

??? I have never played any car racing game with AI this bad. Even GT2 AI back in 1999 was leap years ahead of FH5 AI and that was obviously 23 years ago… What car racing games have you been playing?

PGG did not code the AI to represent a real driver as best as they can. The AI was programmed to create fake engagement, as most things do in FH. That’s why they rubberband, which is as unrealistic as anything could possible be. You don’t do junk like that unless you don’t care about realism.

There are other subtle things I’ve noticed from doing seasonal championships at “Highly Skilled”. In lapped race there is more often than not a noticeable drop-off in AI performance after the first lap if you are not in the lead. In sprint races, a similar thing happens at 50% completed.

Claiming this drivatar behavior is all the result of real-driver trained AI is just insulting our intelligence.

Unless it’s based on the cheating and hacking part of the horizon population, 'cause then it’s chillingly accurate.

If based on real drivers, the acceleration shouldn’t change at all.
They should ram more and brake less too, but not asking for that.

for the most part the game is easy, but an example of absurd and ridiculous difficulty can be seen from time to time such as this week’s DZ challenge. i rage quit it after the third pass and decided to forgo the aggravation. and let’s not forget that the AI blatantly cheats most of the time and performs well above whatever PI class you’re racing in, especially in the trial.

I agree, though there is a much simpler and more direct way of saying it.

The AI drivers are terrible, and cheat like mad in order to stay competitive.

They’re basically static challenges that have no personality, but even on unbeatable the quality of their driving is mediocre at best. Far to rigid to compete with a quality driver. But instead of tackling this issue, PGG just piles on the cheats and calls it a day, and quite frankly there are a lot of better solutions even if at the end of the day cheating turns out to be neccisary. I would much prefer it if, on the higher difficulties, the AI just got more PI to work with than you. It’s still cheating, but at least it’s upfront and honest.

PGG also needs to ditch the whole drivatars system and go back to traditional AI. The whole “drivatars drive like your friends do” isn’t fooling anyone.

Exactly, traditional AI logic isn’t exactly rocket science and is miles better than what we have now.

The original claim that T10 and PGG made when drivatars were introduced was they were “based off of the drivers playing the game”, your friends and so on. Most of my friends list doesn’t play this game, yet they show up in my races. Level 1 rockets off in the front, Who are they basing the driving performance on? The baloney behind the AI programming is nothing but marketing, and the facade had to eventually grow thin.

Or it’s a classic tale of over promising and under delivering. What started out as a genuine feature for the future, ended up being sidelined for more intricate physics and better graphics, making it the undercooked turkey we have today. But, as you say, it’s more apparent than ever and not something that you easily ignore.

I can’t help laugh at how few players have voted for Eliminator under why do you play, when one of the next 2 major content updates will be solely dedicated to the Eliminator lol.

I mean, I’ll start playing it again if they FINALLY reshuffle the cars and actually balance them

As in, an update might get me back into the mode

I personally don’t look forward to forking out money for a month’s worth of Xbox Live Gold to grind for cars they will inevitably lock behind the new Eliminator.

I just buy 3 years of gold then convert it to ultimate for $1

Can anyone that voted OTHER on why do you play this game please specify why you play.

Because I’m a car enthusiast and a Forza junkie as I always have no time so crave a quick fix but then I get on it and am bored within minutes

You never remember the bad bits of a night out until we go on the next night out

Are you saying you’re addicted? Confused. What I’m asking is what aspects of the game do you play which resulted in you or anyone else choosing OTHER. I.e. what options are missing from that list of choices.

Since there are no other games out there in the same category (open world, racing) this is where I’m at. Racing (in all forms) is what I like to do, but it seems like I’m fighting this game 100% of the time. I’m not here for collectibles (unless that means cars), I don’t do “arena” style games in general. Tuning is a crap shoot due to the broken physics/PI system. 90% of builds end up being power builds.
