Nothing to see really, outside of a few G25 issues as far as I can tell.
All the forza games have been perfectly playable for me with a wheel. People still expecting these games to be top of the ffb pile is almost mind blowing. Its been 10+ years and counting.
Be thankful there haven’t been any wheel-breaking updates over that time.
I’ve always just kept with the 270 degree setting fozra motorsport 2 was designed for. They have tried to change it, but it has been hit, miss and stretched at any other wheel rotation since FM4.
If all else fails drop to 270 and enjoy the game for the semi-sim FM & Dirt2 hybrid that it is.
I’ve played all forza games since FM2 (including the previous 2 horizon titles) very comfortably with 900 DOR for road cars and would never use anything less than 540 DOR which I reserve for race cars. Only time I would use 270 DOR is for open wheelers which I don’t enjoy racing anyway. I will play Horizon 3 with a potato before trying to play with 270 DOR.
I’m not saying the FFB should be top of the pile of course, but the fact that it’s gotten significantly worse is a concern.
FFB suffers from bad auto centering and dampening. It was the same issue with Forza Apex when they first release the wheel support. Then we got a patch that added Auto centering and dampening sliders. Turning both those options fixed quite a lot of issues with the FFB. The wrong rotation degree was not fixed but at least it was a start.
Seems we have gone backward with Horizon 3 because those sliders are not present and I can only assume we are forced to use auto centering and dampening.
But if we read the Forza Horizon 3 Known Issues threads, we can see “Improved Advanced Controller Options for Wheels coming to PC in our next update.” so let’s hope that’s what it is.
I know some people have bigger issues, but I don’t, my game run almost flawlessly other than the bad FFB which really spoils the experience for me. Everything else is fantastic. I really hope that patch comes out really soon.
I’m hoping that they include the same update in th XB1 update. A member of T10 had confirmed that improvements to the FFB will be available at launch which I haven’t seen or heard any evidence of. Here’s hoping that he meant the official release and not the early access release which means it’s still to come.
dlc not working at all, and a large chunk of players can’t even launch the game. It’s like the pc version was never tested at all, I can see why they didn’t want to put a demo out because it would have changed people’s minds.
It’s slightly better than the demo but a long way off FH2’s feel, there’s still a fairly noticeable FFB deadzone in the middle of the wheel on tarmac. The dirt FFB is all good, save for the fact that it’s still too strong if you’ve got the FFB strength set to 100, which is mandatory for tarmac. There’s no good middle ground here like there was in FH2.
Personally I’d be more than happy to see FH2’s FFB profile brought back for tarmac and just a simple lowering of the strength on dirt. My guess is that there’s this idea that the FFB needs to FEEL different with every iteration like the handling to keep people interested but that’s not really true for FFB. Once you’ve got a good profile only slight adjustments (if anything at all) should be introduced.
Anyways it’s tolerable at present imo but far from ideal.
Some might say we’ve been complaining forever and T10 will never do FFB properly.
T10 always got a free pass, well, T10/PG, your game is arkham knight levels of bad right now.
I’m using the same Thrustmaster TX which on horizon 2 I felt was brilliant out the box with no settings needing tweaking really (think I even compared it to my Fanatec CSR Elite at the time)
On this its horrible, out the box on tarmac its totally dead. I’ve jacked up FFB & vibration to 90% and dialled rotation down to 360 (tried 540 which was a bit better than 900). Even doing this there is still a huge deadzone in the middle where you can drive on tarmac sawing left/right on the wheel and the car doesn’t deviate from straight, even with a 0 middle dead zone set.
Its almost ruinously bad for me. I’m so disappointed in it as previously the Forza games have been amazing at wheel implementation
The FFB is so bad it feels like there is none at all. I tried playing with a lot of settings in the game and my wheel (Fanatec CSR) and it’s totally floaty and dead. A patch is desperately needed… fingers crossed.
I installed the game today and knowing my machine is not high spec by any means, it can run apex on low setting 1080p60. (Planning to upgrade soon)
Horizon 3 is nowhere even close to playable at 720p 30fps on lowest possible settings and I looks worse than forza 1.
FFB was insanely bad, I don’t know how they do it…
FFB is much worse, even on X1, than what we had with FH2.
There is zero on-center feel on Tarmac, leading to bizarre “fixes” like having to reduce degrees of rotation to the 540-510deg range.
In FH2, I had perfect FFB with 900deg on my TX. In FH3, 900deg is basically uncontrollable and feels nothing like a real car.
This continues a disturbing trend with T10/PG FFB. For me, FFB quality peaked with FH2, then got worse with FM6’s bizarre sudden lift-off oversteer, and now we have the FH3 FFB that’s so bad that we have to do weird things like reducing degrees of rotation just to restore some semblance of fidelity. Is it because, in the past, they only had to support the TX and now we have many wheel options?
Yeah unfortunately to get less deadzone in the center we have to use a 400-540DoR. I switch to 700 for road cars to avoid the car spinning out in the corners at the expense of no center feeling. Hopefully (fingers crossed) they can address this.
