Unfortunately Microsoft doesn’t even let you remap original elite controllers to these new features, definitely a barrier they could easily remove.

Start of race at Mugello. There’s a car not moving. Quite late to see it as another car in front of me. Swerved out of the way but clipped (barely) the static car rear left corner. 2.25s penalty for me for avoidable contact.
Personally I think a) that’s harsh given the circumstances and very minor contact and b) maybe cars that don’t move at the start of the race automatically ghost.
the penalty system it is on the side of the ones who commit penalties. If a player put you on the grass, he continues running and that is an advantage. Correct will be punish the player in a few seconds later of crash reducing his/her speed.
I mainly play FM offline, but recently it became a nightmare to race against the AI at max difficulty with Expert rules and generally I do 10 laps races.
I usually start at the back of the grid, and as soon as the race starts, it becomes a mayhem. The AI breaks on the straights for no reason, and this may cause several rear-end collisions that ends with a bunch of penalties and broken mechanical parts that force you to start again the race.
Unfortunately I can’t share the clips I’ve recorded, but in every situation, I got rammed off the track, even from lapped drivers. Of course, 8 times out of 10, I’m the one who get penalized. It doesn’t make sense and it definetly ruin the fun.
Sometimes, I bump involutarily an opponent, and I can get up to 2,25s of penalty, unless he goes off the track, and i get 4s penalty. Other times, I ram them off intentionally, and I don’t get penalized at all. I really don’t get how this works, but it definetly needs a rework.
Since 6.1 I’ve enjoyed the 4cyl A class series and think of myself as an above average player (381*2 Driver level). Until 2 days ago I’ve maintained an average A+ Safety Rating. I am now at a C. Every time I get touched I get a penalty, some times 4sec first bump. Every time this happens, my rating goes down placing me with even worse competition. I get it, it’s a game, but I’ve been playing this game since the original, removed FH5 from my counsel and now thinking of uninstalling to get it back. At least I could used the drag tires and drift suspension offered in the upgrades. I actually feel insulted with what you have presented use after such a wait for the next best Forza. Please re-consider your strategy on making this game. You tried re-inventing the wheel and gave us a saw blade, yes both useful but not really what we had in mind. Rant over.
Please fix the penalty system. I just got sent to the shadow realm through literally no fault of my own at T2 and somehow I wound up with a 4-second penalty. This is ridiculous. I’ve linked the clip via a Reddit post here
As I posted previously (Update 6 penalty system may make break checking popular), with update 6 penalty system being more strict and almost always against the car behind, I have been seeing more and more toxic brake checking to let opponent behind getting penalty. The video above is one recent example. You can see in the whole video how hard I tried to avoid making contact with that black car. However, that black car first attempted to let me rear side end him at 0:20 when I tried to pass, I avoided that. Then black car made two extremely early break at 0:24 and 0.29, hoping to add penalty on me. If you have ever drove those two corners in a Forza GT car, you basically can immediately tell those early brakes were intentional penalty fraud brake checking. I did brake immediately after seeing those attempts so I did not get penalty. Finally the black car went all ramming mode at 0:49 right after I passed him. BTW he did not get penalty for that.
Do you guys know whether there is a trick to avoid being attacked by those brake checking and penalty fraud players? I already tried immediately press pause button to enter ghost but my Xbox kinda lags for 0.5 second after I pause and my car usually ended up on the grass if I do that…
I more and more see this mid-turn to turn exit.
I’m right behind someone and suddenly as well as completely unnecessarily they brake right before the acceleration zone of a turn.
If you can’t avoid it you’ll give them a speed bump, slow yourself down and get a penalty.
It’s annoying that the flaws of the system are exploited like this.
Atleast game does recognize when u bumpdraft, and don’t give u penalty if u lightly push someone when u are both accelerating on straight.
I often push someone on straight (where I’m 100% I will not kill him) if I don’t want to overtake someone that is clearly faster in corners than me, and usually I get no penalties or sometimes I got warning if speed difference is too big, but that’s all (no one died because of that too… Well except for when u bump someone on straight and he starts braking for no reason, then he dies because of that xd)
Not true. A couple months ago, I was racing with three other guys in a party at Catalunya and I got a .5 second penalty for bump drafting one of them on the main straight. I’ll grant you that it was the only penalty any of us got from bump drafting (we all did it all race as we were very evenly matched), but regardless, it can and will just sometimes decide that your bumpdraft deserves a penalty.
Typical behaviour of meta abuser, when he see no aero enjoyer. And typical behaviour of FRR in this type of situations
I don’t understand how the game can get that penalty so wrong. The car that is hit doesn’t deviate in line, the offending car clearly turns in to them and hits near the back of the car. What does the programming think has happened there to give a 4 second penalty to the car that gets hit.
Penalties have vastly got more harsh. In some lobbies you won’t believe most people have a penalty. I think bump drafting deserves a penalty. I hate someone keep gently hitting the back of my car. It’s very distracting and can ruin your race approaching a corner. The extra speed from the bump ruins your braking for the corner.
You now have to drive extra careful and clean to avoid penalties. I prefer it this way. I’ve also had the 4 second penalty when a car hit me on purpose. It still needs some serious work. I expect they will never please everyone but I’ll take harsher penalties.
I’ve never dropped lower than a B and 99% of the time I’m S . The B was from two cars running into me I got an 8 second penalty,4 from each incident. Also the tiniest bit of your tyre off track gives big penalties. It’s also not consistent. On some corners you slide wide by a big amount and nothing. The next your an inch off the track and you get 1.5 seconds
This just about sums up the multiplayer experience.
But it’s not just MP. It SP too. AI is still brake checking in the straights for no apparent reason. I’ve had AI pit me just like the video and I get the penalty.
And I’ve hit AI in a pit, spun them out and driven them off the track and not received any penalties.
And I’ve bump drafted AI both with and without penalties. And no idea why I did or didn’t get penalties.
Yeah …sadly true.
And the WWW is full with such Videos, but T10 ducks away and remains silent. These issues should be a top priority in a racing game. And as long as they exist, it’s nothing more than a game trying to be a racing game. Things look exactly bad in single player.
What remains then ? A tuning, hotlapping and painting simulator…
Just eliminate the issue where when breaking into a corner you get hit from behind and receive a penalty. If the contact forces you off track the penalty can be harsh. Being rear ended should NEVER result in a penalty when in a breaking zone. This should be an easy fix. For me this represents about half of the penalties received.
And not even that good for a painting simulator. Even FM7 was miles ahead there. FH5 is years beyond this joke if you just want painting.
And not even good for tuning.
No dyno.
Limited tune storage capacity.
The tuning UI is a such chore - it wouldn’t surprise me if the UX “DeSiGnErS” for this game were paid by the number of button-presses it takes to navigate into & back out of anything.
I’ve also experienced instances when the game seems to forget I have a race transmission installed - so I pause on-track & pull up the gearing menu & adjusting a gear, which apparently reminds the game “oh yeah, okay, you can have your tuned gears back after you un-pause.”
