A random dude ram me off turn 1. I immediately ghost myself to avoid impacting other players, and indeed no one else got contacted. Then I got 4.5 seconds penalty for being rammed… I just cannot imagine what kind of code could make Forza penalty system achieve such level of stupidity.
This is one of those instances where T10 could make people feel an order of magnitude better if @T10ManteoMax would respond. So many are upset by this very thing… it keeps me from MP racing that I did so much of in FM7.
Exactly, very frustrating. Especially as you see in the clip, my first action after being rammed was to ghost myself and protect other drivers, instead of saving my own car, which clearly demonstrates how clean I race. It is so upset when you race clean but somehow get destroyed by the game’s penalty system…
Not trying to say this is the correct way to assess the penalty here, but it looks like 2 things are happening.
- It looks like you brake too hard and too early for that corner. You’re way off the line for that corner (but so is the rammer!) I can see the penalty system flagging you for brake checking. Again, not saying this is the right way to assess this. I’m trying to understand the penalty system.
- I wonder if the penalty system ignores the fact that you ghosted. It seems like the best option so you don’t wreck other drivers but it seems like the penalty system is ignoring that. Even though there is no contact, the game still sees you flying across the racing line because of what it saw as a brake check, so penalty for you. To repeat: I’m not sure this is a correct way to assess the penalty, just speculating on what the game saw.
This is definitely cause for clarification of how certain penalties are assessed. In my limited experience, penalties can be affected by how you react before, during, and after the contact. I really think we need an illustrated guide to penalties to better understand situations like this.
Penalised for braking too hard and early? In other words, not being perfect. Yeah, I’m giving up on this ‘game’.
I should add, he brakes when the yellow line starts, is off the racing line and it’s raining. The guy behind was probably going to ram him any way.
Without looking at the video, no need. It a basic rule of the road. Whether on a public road or a race track. It’s the responsibility of the car behind, the overtaking car, to use due diligence to avoid the car they overtaking. Brake chrcking (which I doubt is the case here) while it is a nasty trick, is something the overtaking driver has yo be alert for and be ready to counter. The FRRs are simply wrong if they penalize the forward car and fail to penalize the readward car. While I don’t like the idea of penalizing both cars it would at least even the field. It would at least ALSO let us the players know that our input into their call our for input into FRRs is being heard and not just a blind ploy to make us feel like they care.
One-up-in you with this beauty:
4.00+4.50 within 30 seconds.
Your dog don’t hunt. Translation; the video doesn’t play.
Penalty system does not penalize brake checking to the person getting rear ended.
It seems such a simple thing… in FH 4, I believe, they started to auto-ghost anyone intent on ramming. “high speed collision avoidance” is what I think it was called. And actually, it can work in either direction, it’s just a matter of the direction of the vector. I’m not saying he braked to hard, but if someone does it’s a very large vector in the direction opposite to the current direction.
Also… penalizing for 3 seconds… um, what exactly is that supposed to deter? Some idiot rams a car off the track… that driver is probably going to be 30 seconds down if not more. Ramming, is easily detectable… (hey T10, cut and paste the code from the FH codebase )… it should be an instant “lap down”… car goes on auto-drive and heads to the pits to sit for 30 seconds. And that is easy enough to code given that the game auto-drives a players car in other situations.
I like to race the spec series races and I am always at a disadvantage because I don’t know how to tune the car. So, when I battle my way, cleanly, up from 15th to 4th only to have someone ram my car off the track sending back down to 15th, it reeaaalllly ticks me off.
Come on @T10ManteoMax, chime in here. It’s one of the most talked about problems in the game. Remind your boss that you work for a gaming studio, not the Pentagon!
I’m lost for words as you are.
As I wrote in another thread, the penalties are the worst I’ve ever seen and they got worse with time. I’m usually a S driver and somehow a few days ago I managed to go down to B, and even C!
First race, someone was already spinning out in front of me and there was nothing I could to do avoid him. I hit him at high speed and I got 4s penalty.
Second race, on the very first corner of Daytona, I started third and someone rammed me. I not only ended up last, but I also received a 4.5s penalty for whatever reason.
The system is truly broken and needs to be revised ASAP.
Sorry to say, but it is the sad norm. We may not think about all the other bugs, big or small, but the penalty system is obscene.
What’s worse is that with update 7 it has even gotten worse.
Ah dang, thx for pointing it out. Weird. Maybe this will work:
Formula Mazda
Same. Two times I’ve had over 8 seconds penalty and played the whole race with the Damocles Sword saying “DRIVE MORE CAREFULLY” This system has always felt really hard to implement because it’s supposed to understand intentions. Big difference between a honest mistake and a proper ram. Also, a better sorting of the lobbies would reduce on-track incident when everyone is roughly the same speed.
I while back I was racing with an S rating, had two races with penalties that weren’t my fault and dropped to B.
Honestly the races in B rating were a lot cleaner and more competitive for me! I made it back to A yesterday, let’s see how that goes now.
That works, those were crazy.
this happened to me

C - S safety rating players have always matched up together, it’s always been that way.
I’m 100% sure someone will have an explanation as to why that is your fault. But the only really true way to say it is “screwed up penalty system”. And stupid drivers.
If he posts this on r/forza I guarantee you the experts will prove by a+b that he is the culprit here.
Wonder what they will say about this one, I am clueless why a penalty was even handed out.
