At this moment, it’s obvious that you and the black car are both going for the same bit of tarmac. He’s ahead, the window is rapidly closing, and there’s nowhere for you to go except off track (both your left side tires wind up going over the curbing and into the dirt). Not surprisingly, a collision occurs. This forces the black car into the rear of the lead #2 car, forcing the former off line and the latter into a spin. You wound up passing both cars as a direct result of all this. Not sure in what world that wouldn’t warrant a penalty. The wiser thing to do would’ve been to concede the corner, tuck in behind the black car, get a better exit, and either pass him down the following straight or set him up for a move going into the next corner.
In this instance, I actually agree and don’t feel a penalty was warranted…not for you, anyway. Looks like the yellow car checked up a bit more than was necessary and you were simply carrying more speed and were unable to anticipate him slowing down so much. The penalty should go to the black #7 car (who was probably angry about the incident at the previous corner) for not leaving any space and tagging you as he passed on the outside.
braking early is simply not true. I have been breaked check plenty of times no chance at stopping from hitting the car in front of me at all. I get the penalty for avoidable contact buty the car doing the break checking does not get a penalty at all. The penalty system is broken plan and simple
Hmmm… how is that if someone rams you off the road at high speed (your car going straight), they don’t get a penalty… but if you hit the car spinning out in front of you, you get a penalty.
Let me get this straight… if the car getting hit is going straight, no penalty, but if it’s spinning out, penalty.
If you read the rest of my reply, you’ll see that I agree that the second penalty was unwarranted. So no, not 8.5 seconds. But the 4 second penalty for the first incident absolutely was deserved, IMO.
I completely understand and empathize with everyone expressing their frustrations about the penalty system. It’s evident that there are significant issues that need to be addressed, particularly when penalties are handed out to players who aren’t at fault. This is undeniably frustrating and unfair.
However, I’d like to share a slightly different perspective based on my experience. Despite its flaws, I believe the penalty system has had a positive impact overall. From what I’ve observed, the mere presence of the system has encouraged many players to adopt a less aggressive driving style in online races. This change in behavior, perhaps driven by the unpredictability of the penalties, has made races somewhat cleaner and more enjoyable.
I’ve spent dozens of hours in Featured Multiplayer and have only received two penalties that I felt were unjustified. Although these penalties relegated me to security level A for 8 races each time, which was certainly frustrating, I still see potential in the system. It’s not a total failure, but there’s a lot of room for improvement.
To those who have shared their justified concerns, I hear you and agree that the current state of the penalty system is far from perfect. It definitely needs a thorough review and significant adjustments to ensure fairness and accuracy.
Well said tweitzel. I feel similarly about the penalty system, though I haven’t been relegated to a lower safety rating yet. I save most of my aggressive driving for when I’m up against drivatars
I think it’s important that we craft our complaints from a very objective position. As frustrating as penalties can be, it is important that we communicate to Turn10 in a constructive way.
There is some really good advice and philosophy in there. I think it would be good to hear something like this from the developers, so we can better understand how they intend the penalty system to work.
We, as racers need to be clear and objective in our criticism, and Turn10 should also be clear in how they expect us to race.
Doubt it. At least with the current system if I get rammed/PITed in to the wall, I don’t get catastrophic damage. Why should the victim suffer even more? The number of times that rammers end up quitting before the end of the race means they already don’t care about consequences.
See that’s interesting, because this game already punishes you a lot, contacts, off-tracks excursions etc … But until the penalty system works properly, the punishment doesn’t really function as a teaching tool. Maybe it needs more time … And players…
