Extended Pre-Load Window?

With one of the selling points of the Ultimate Edition being Early Access has anyone heard if the pre-load window is going to be extended? The US average speed is 18Mb but that number is inflated by areas that have extremely high access speeds when in reality over 50% of the population is still under 15Mb. I pay for 6M and connect around 8. The last game I downloaded was Mass Effect:Andromeda which came in around 60gb and with 3 other people in the house on multiple devices it took close to a week to download. I’m sure I could have downloaded in a few days faster if I had selfishly monopolized the connection but that wasn’t an option. For 100gb I’m looking at a minimum of 7 days and based on speeds from the Akamai report, it’s not as if a small number of people could potentially be in the same situation.

I’m bringing this up because for FH3 Early access was a selling point as well. Between T10/Microsoft’s initial problems when preloading went live where it would only download a small amount and start over(PC) and my connection speed I was only able to enjoy 1 day of early access because the availability window was too small.

Good question, I’d like to know too with my 4 mb/s connection

they did this with forza 6 and the pre load window was a full week before the hard release if I remember correctly, so 3 days before early access.

Indeed but FM6 was…what…35gb? H3 was ~60gb and even if the servers hadn’t gone through thier initial 2 day seizure I still would have missed Early Access on day one. That was aggressively downloading by shutting off access to every device but my PC at 10pm and letting it go til 12pm the next day. I eventually gave up and carried my Xbox to a buddies house who has 25Mb which still took over a day.

For 100GB a 7 day window simply isn’t sufficient. I can completely understand that at 10-14 days removed it won’t be launch ready but they could package a final beta minus the .exe files so we could at least begin grabbing the majority of the assets.

Edit: I’d actually prefer a physical PC copy. Just tie it to an activation code that would unlock play anywhere. This is just the beginning. With XBX on the horizon, 100GB games that use 4K are going to be standard if not on the smaller side. Imagine a rebuilt Witcher 3 that is fully optimized for 4K(PC version still has plenty of 1-2k assets), it would be huge. I know I don’t speak for everyone but I’d happily pay the premium for a box containing a USB stick or SD card containing the game.

Its good to hear they did this with F6. I’m a PC player and have ultimate edition preordered. Cannot wait for release.

The earlier the better. I bought digitally and intend on running the game on both PC and Xbox One so two downloads for me!

Same here… and a potential third if I decide to go for the “X” factor… although if it plays fine on my PC I might delay the console purchase…

On Gamestop’s digital download page it mentions the game will be available for download on September 1st. So, possibly, MS might be accounting for the 100GB download and slower internets.

A first or last day of the month date is normally a placeholder date because they don’t know the actual date preloads will began. Plus the 1st is on a Friday and Microsoft store servers normally update on Tuesdays.

Hi there.i pre-ordered the digital ultimate edition from the microsoft store,i realise that it will be available for early play on 29 sept but will you be able to pre-load the game before that?
I noticed the comment below on Amazon uk regarding the digital version, will we be able to download it early from the microsoft store aswell? I assume amazon are maybe doing this so the servers dont get overloaded on release day maybe. If there are a lot of people trying to download the game on release and you have a slow internet connection ( as i have ) it will be hard going i imagine.

From amazon uk
PRE-LOAD: Code will be delivered starting on 01 Sep 2017 and you will be able to download it to your Xbox One but the game will not be playable until 00:01 on 29 Sep 2017

With Amazon AND Gamestop both saying September 1st and Amazon giving a September 5th for non-ultimate editions, I would argue that Pre-loading might actually start on Friday. I guess we’ll see, though. But that DOES put the pre-load in the middle of Destiny 2’s pre-load which starts on Wednesday.

Since Amazon are just giving you the digital code to download from the Microsoft/xbox store you would expect to be able to download at the same time…1st of September does sound early though…usually its about 1-2 weeks before release …we already have the placeholders

Good to know.sorry for asking a question which already has its own thread, that will teach me to use the search.lol
To be honest i didnt even know this pre-load thing existed.

The Microsoft store is showing a release date of 28-09-17 which is only a day before the Early Access you get if you have the ultimate edition…?

For me it shows 11PM Sept 28th 2017. which is midnight US EDT, and A lot of “midnight” releases lately have done simultaneous nation wide here in the US. So once it hits Midnight in the eastern time zone it becomes available across all 4 time zones in the continental US. 11PM here in central, 10PM in Mountain, and 9PM Pacific time. That is the time the game will unlock, not the time Preloads will begin.

Thanks there was no time shown on the UK store and early access was shown as 29th…

I’m hoping that they go sooner rather than later as I have both a PC and Xbox to get the download on… No looking forward to having them on 24/7…

I might take them into the office to make the best of the FTTP connection and wont have to worry about fan noise etc…

With all the digital games ive preordered the actual game has preloaded at least a week in advance of release date…its just not playable until the release date
Except for the stuff up with fm6 which need to be deleted and reinstalled the day of release due to some error by xbox live

You poor people need to move. How do you live with that woefully slow internet?

People just can’t up and move to better areas. It just does not work that way.

Also, not everyone can afford really fast internet either so that is also a factor.

I myself have pretty terrible internet, took me a week to download FM6 (later version that was pretty much 50 gb, give or take). Now if we DOUBLE that, there is no way that FM7 can be downloaded in time for early access. None.

They should push it back to perhaps 2 weeks before early access, that seems most ideal if you ask me. After all, I’m not the only one with awful internet.
