Engine Sounds [see post #27]

It’s thin and weak because they haven’t included any of the low frequencies that the cars engines and exhaust produce. Normal TV speakers won’t pick that up, so it seems they have made the game ideal for tv speakers. I remember some cars sounding decent tone wise, just puny and weak. Not sure if they are even aware that a Cobra 427 will beat the :poop: outta you with it’s rumble…

You’re not wrong, and I’m pretty sure they engineered it to only sound good on mono systems too cos on my engineering rig, and my dolby atmos every car other than the 3 I listed there are incredibly narrow. They should hire me to fix this thing. I also notice that it gets a lil wider when I increase the sample rate of my interface so that’s a bit strange.

Y0! When can we expect more engine sounds to be fixed?!

It’s really hard for me to play any other car other than the R8, California T, and 488 GTB cos the rest sound so terrible compared to these. At the very least re-engineer everything else so they’re as loud and imaged as well as those 3. Nearly everything sounds too narrow and low end weak. Idk what the plan was there, but it’s clearly not the work of a highly trained professional.

The mustangs need fixed as well Horizon 2 had a perfect sound file.

We know you’re capable of it. Can’t tease us with 3 cars that sound amazing 'n just leave us hanging. RUDE

Anyone remembers NFS Most wanted (the new one) that was released 6 years ago? I play it even today just so i can rumble through the tunnels with amazingly sounding Gallardo. Game had nearly perfect engine sounds plus they had automatic transmision modeled that was working like the one in the real cars. If you were pushing, car shifted near red line but if you were just crusing car shifted at low revs. This feature would be nice in Forza series

Yah. FM7’s Huracan / Gallardo engine sounds more accurate. What they need to do here is just copy pasta the R8 v10 for now. It’ll serve as a good enough band-aid until these are fixed.

The only Hemi powered vehicle that sounds right is the Trailcat. Why couldn’t this engine be copy pasta’d to all the Hemi powered cars? Ridiculous.

I’m glad the R33LM and R34GTR sound decent but c’mon Playground R32 and stock R33 still sound terrible, please update.

the Dodge viper gts is still awfull awfull bad compared to fh3. still no updated sound on thous vipers. just awfull. have been waiting for an update since the game was released and even msg dev about it the very first day and hope for a sound update but nope. so big a downgrade compared to FH3 sounds.

The updates have been pretty much pointless and just gigabytes of nothing to me. New online features and new clothes are coming which is great (although I’m not an XBL gold member) but no one was asking for these things. I don’t think anyone was asking for Festival playlist either… This thread has over 80k views and most people during the livestreams are complaining about the engine sounds so why’s nothing happening? It really feels like you guys don’t care about the engine sound anymore, and copy pasta becomes more frequent for each game that comes out. Just remember: Quality>Quantity.

Despite how depressing it can be reading all these comments in the thread, I am not that confident that they are going to fix the sounds.

What’s even more depressing is the fact that when you play games like Dirt Rally and Project Cars 2, and then come back to FM7/FH4, you immediately notice how weak and tiny the car sounds can be. I don’t know who in their right mind thought in the sound engineering team “okay, let’s give everything LFE especially the choppers, whoosh effects and rumble strips, and leave the cars out for now”.

No matter how powerful your car is, it sounds weak and lacklustre. While only a small handful of cars in FM7 do exhibit “pseudo-bass” like the Shelby GT350 and Bugatti Chiron, nearly every car in both games just whines and creates a lot of pitch. There’s virtually very little that can be heard or felt through the exhaust/motor vibrations.

T10/PG were off to a good start with Forza 5/6 and Horizon 2/3 - WHAT WENT WRONG???

The developers really need to experience Dirt Rally and PCARS2 on a loud surround system to see what proper car sounds in cough a “racing game” should sound like.

I’ve hardly touched H4 and FM7 since playing DR and CARS2 because they really put their back into the sounds. I’m sorry but Forza lacks character and the CAR SOUND is to blame.

Hey Turn 10/PGG. I hope and pray you’re reading this message, though you may not be since you haven’t taken any action in regards to what this entire thread has been discussing, neither have you posted a reply to the overall discussion. Anyways, if you’re not going to fix the car sounds for the sake of your customers overall satisfaction with the product, do it so that your product will continue to sell. After listening to H2, and H3, I find it mind boggling how the quality dropped so drastically. Everyone knows the simple formula of QUALITY/quantity. Ive seen some weak replies of yours claiming that in a way you didnt “copy and paste” car sounds in H4 which is a shameful lie. All of the RB26 skylines sound the same, and that file is also shared with the BMW M4. I found it incredible how the Guilia Quadrofoglio sounds like a better RB26.

Another thing that dent make a lick of sense of how some cars are louder than other, for ex: the r32 is far louder than the Lp-700-4 2012. One the topic of car volume, why is it that the backfires are so quiet in this game? The Lp-700-4 is far more audible in regards to intake, engine rumble, exhaust, and backfires than the upgraded 2016 Lp-750-4 (which is a lighter, faster, louder, and overall better version) I cant even take full joy of cruising and racing around in my favorite v12 lambo because the older version sounds better and more accurate. I paid the the most expensive version of this game and Im let down. You can clearly tell that the sound team for the most part said “thats good enough, we can just take the same sounds and slightly modify the pitch and paste them onto different cars”

I could go on forever and ever about how bad the car sounds are for major popular cars, but why beat a dead horse. My point is PGG if you don’t cater to your consumers, you will lose credibility and sales for the next Horizon title. Not that hard, admit you made a screw up and fix it. As my father taught me “Remember, do it right the first time and you don’t have to do it again”.

For anyone who wants to play a game with outstanding car sounds, Assetto Corsa is heaven!!!

It’s really a shame that they’re allowing shoddy audio engineering to block this game from being everything it can be. If all the cars were updated like the R8, 488 GTB, and Ferrari California T it would be amazing. No other title quite has the physics down like this one does. When I’m driving in cockpit view it’s v close to real life driving. Not even PC2 or AC can compare 'n those are totally different types of racing games. Imho FM7 feels better than both of those but even it suffers from shoddy audio engineering.

Please get some real car guys on the sound team for the next iteration.

Yesterday I upgraded my real life car to a full straight through exhaust system and people have been ducking for cover when I drive past them.

Do this in Forza and it barely makes a difference to volume let alone exhaust tone/backfiring etc. When upgrading and semi-realism are 2 of the biggest draws for your game, make sure they’re to an acceptable level.

Even NFS does this and we all know where that title sits atm. If PG/T10 implemented all the NFS customization into this it’d be unstoppable.

Couldn’t agree more, that level of customisation depth and detail would make this the best car game on the market by a country mile

Also. This is how Vipers should sound >> Dodge Viper Engine Sound

After being left in complete awe from listening to Asetto Corsa cars such as: Aventador Sv, R32, Porsches, etc – I have truly internalized how bad the car sounds of FH4 are. Simple details of how cars sound when bouncing on the rev limiter and the backfires are so detailed on Corsa. The fact that FH2 (and some from FM7 such as the centenary) had decent sounds and weren’t ported to FH4 is insane.
