Eliminator is it me or is it just not at all fun?

why do you hate it out of curiosity

Nope. Most people hate it. It was the same in FH4. Since they copied/pasted it with all its faults and broken gameplay mechanics, i really find hard to believe that some people actually play it. But they do, many of them. Probably the same fanb-oys who dont even know what a racing game is. And since the devs, in their infinite wisdom keep poping up events related to eliminator, we are never get rid of it, sigh.

i am those people who play it though!. im curious to know what you mean ‘cut and pasted broken mechanics’ . what is broken specifically?

Not necessarily all broken mechanics but:

-The mode itself is the antithesis to what Forza is for me. Having a big car collection, upgrading, tuning, and perfecting them then seeing if your driving skill holds up. Eliminator is pure luck based. I lose in a road race to someone with a better car or who out drives me? Fine whatever, that’s on me. Lose in eliminator to some guy in a level 10 car cause all I could find is a level 2? Lame.
-The car drops are wildly inconsistent, I can go three games in a row and find no car drops or only find a level 2 until someone in a level 7 destroys me in a h2h.
-The car tiers are utter garbage.
-Getting challenged from miles away.

I can get to final ring pretty consistently in level 4-5 cars and always lose because people get lucky with the early drops and can bully h2h’s while I’m stuck with garbage.

Eliminator is not pure luck based. Far from it. It’s mainly knowledge based, meaning once you know what you need to do to win then the probability of you winning increases greatly.

I don’t play FH5 eliminator as I think the map is boring but I would claim to have played FH4 eliminator more than most. And back then I had a 75% win rate and could string together 5+ wins in a row. Point being if it was luck based then why am I not sitting in a mansion surrounded by hundreds of beautiful woman?

For me its a bit of fun to just find somewhere to hide and sit it out to see how close I can get to the final I got 4th once by just doing that got some xp and cash for just sitting there doing nothing. :sunglasses:

My guess would be women value success/sociability/looks over Forza skills.

“My favorite part about this mode is not playing it.”

You missed my point but that’s ok because I too think Eliminator in FH5 is a snooze feast. FH4 eliminator on the other hand was great. It all comes down to the map.

What introduced me to the way I play it, is the playlist event where you just have to play eliminator and get down to 30 plyers left so for me the easiest way to do that is just hide and avoid all other players.

Finally got a win in it so I hopefully never have to touch the mode ever again. Ya’ll have a good one.

I agree. My favorite part about this mode is not playing it. I will never get those accolades that require winning (for a lack of trying), and I don’t really care.

but i think you are proving my point. until you have won, you will never experience the feeling you get from it. once you achieve it, it becomes really addicting and fun. saying you dont like the mode cause you never try to do what its there for (win lol) is kind a silly argument no?

okay so yeah, i agree none of those are ‘broken mechanics’, just your opinion of the mode, which is fine.

just as an fyi, the goal i have everytime is to get to the final circle in a 9 or a 10. yes its somwhat easy to get there in a 4 or 5 like you said, but yes anyone with a faster car will likely beat you in the final race, which is usually straight. that to me is the intended purpose of the final race and mode itself.

its very possible to start with a 1 and beat 9 other racers to get to a 10 with skill, rather than a lucky drop. ive done it below. but again, having others get a 10 randomly is what makes the mode unpredictable and fun.

For me it’s boring because the map layout does not allow flexibility.
I only played it in the beginning to unlock some related stuff (playlist & accolade). H2h were basically “press RT” and hope your car is faster on the given terrain.
In Horizon 4 map knowledge was way more important and clever routes could easily negate car disadvantages.
I played it for fun from time to time. Here, not even once.

It’s an acquired taste but the more I do it, the more I enjoy it. Technical problems aside.

Wasn’t really an argument, just stating a fact. I have tried Eliminator many times and really do not enjoy this type of activity. I am pretty sure I can tell whether I like this or not, and it doesn’t really matter whether I am winning or not. There were other events in Horizon that I loved, even before I won any of them. The whole concept of Battle Royalle/Capture the Flag/whatever, I just find to be a complete bore, regardless which game it is in.

fwiw, I am sincerely happy for you that you enjoy this mode. I would just rather be doing something else in the game (like keep trying to improve my distances in the danger jumps).

There does seem to be a somewhat sneery attitude towards people who say they don’t like a certain mode of play and that anyone who doesn’t like a mode shouldn’t have an opinion on it.

I play it when I need the points for weekly challenges, but it’s not my go-to game. I think its a pretty clever game mode however, and it isn’t required for you to play it so, you know, what’s not to like? They did it for FH4 and it’s just included at launch for FH5.

A later version of this mode would, I think, increase it’s fun-factor by having more than car-drop’s as ‘reasons to expose yourself on the map’. Powerups would be nice, but that would fundamentally change the nature of Horizon…Turbo’s or “Radar Invisibility” or something like that…but then if you have them in Eliminator, why not have them in the base game (etc). Still…an option.

I think its a nice inclusion, but I also like that its not part of the core game and it’s just 'there if you want to play it".

I’m genuinely shocked at the number of players that like eliminator in FH5. I can only imagine they never played eliminator in FH4 where it was so much better due to the map.

If you never played FH4 eliminator I’ll try explain it. First imagine your car is the size of an ant. Now take 2 pieces of paper and stick them together. This is the FH5 map. Now take one of these pieces of paper and crumple it a little then take the other piece of paper and rip it up and drop the shreds of paper over the crumpled piece of paper. This is the FH4 map.

im not sure about that. for me personaly, i make a concerted effort to never come off as sassy if they dont like the mode. however i am VERY curious to why people dont like (considering how much i love it) and love reading this thread to try and find out how it can be so polarizing.

I really wanted to get answers to this statement, as this would explain why people didnt like it. But as he admitted, theres actually nothing broken in the mode, he just didnt like it.
