Like many of us I’m on holiday at the moment so playing Horizon 5 a lot and in particular Eliminator so that I can get the accolades. Still trying for my first win with 2nd place my best effort yet.
I can’t help thinking a stay on the roads version of Eliminator would be a lot more enjoyable for many of us. Currently much of the driving is off road especially the mad dash at the end which is essentially a glorified free roam rush. What if it was the other way around with almost all driving on the roads?
My suggestion is:
Say one in 3 or 4 games at random is a stay on the roads version of Eliminator.
If you leave the road you have 10 seconds to get back on the road. This allows for running off the road. Also you can take calculated short cuts. Remember some of the best stories in Horizon 4 were the ones where you had to get from A to B in a certain time and stay on roads. The only way to 3 star a couple of them was to take a calculated risky short cut.
All car drops are on roads. The final destination and challenge destinations are on roads.
All other rules pretty much stay the same
By staying on the roads the game becomes much more of a strategy game on who knows the roads and the best routes to take plus of course driving ability. Challenging someone will take some skill as you’ll often need to be pointed in the right way to challenge (more so than now). This is where you’ll likely need to circle around an opponent by briefly going off road.
How cool would it be with the final destination at the top of the mountain and you actually had to race up the roads to the top to win!!
Comments? Maybe the 10 seconds needs to be a bit longer to make challenging easier.
The final race would come down to a race between the level 10 cars. The other cars would not stand a chance. It would be equivalent to an s2 car racing in a-class.
I do agree though that eliminator in FH5 needs to be flipped on its head because it’s so bad comparison to eliminator in FH4. At the end of the day eliminator will always suffer from the map which is flat and empty.
That sounds a great idea
Could have a 10sec per offroad limit and an overall h2h race limit for a max total of time spent offroad of say 30s (or whatever value works best) counted in a similar way to the out of ring timer works.Go over either and forfeit the h2h
A Road only version of it does sound intriguing! For me, it just wouldn’t work as it would require skill and my participation in the Eliminator relies on 100% luck lol
It would be a neat idea if perhaps the higher levels get a higher time penalty going offroad to get the chances a bit even.
I know same as on the road normally a level 1-5 car never get a chance to beat a level 10 car offroad, but there you have at least some obsticles or barriers to slow the level 10 car down. But at a roads only version this would be given so there would be no chance to get anywhere near the podium if you drive not the right car…
So for balancing it would be nice if level 1-3 cars could shortcut without to much time penalty but the higher level would be punished for going offroad. Some kind like the “The Crew Single Player Campaign” where you near the end as Player didn’t get the memo that the offroad race with rally raid specs has changed to a sportscar street event…
while playing eliminator today I was pondering this thread and it would be extremely interesting and a nice change to the eliminator as it is.
I don’t know exactly how the leveling would work or the balancing of higher level cars to lower level cars but that’s what the devs are being paid to achieve right?
The people complaining that the higher level cars would completely dominate are wrong imo as it’s the exact same as normal eliminator - today I was in a LVL 4/5 car my opponent in a LVL 8/9 hit 3 obstacles and still managed to crawl back the gap and win the race despite me racing flawlessly.
The higher level cars are always going to be overpowered thats why they are more difficult to obtain to begin with
How about a log version of Eliminator where you can only drive through logs. If you haven’t hit any logs after 10 seconds then your car is turned into a log.
Eliminator is crazy. You can play the whole game perfectly but if you get challenged and your opponent is facing the direction of the goal and you have to turn around, you’re usually done, unless they really suck.
Seems like too much chance involved for a game of this caliber.
Also seems like there’s probably an easy fix for this.
I don’t hear this mentioned enough. To me, it’s a game-killer.
Am I the only person who has this big of an issue with this?
Good luck with that. Making it road only will be too much work for them. They’ll never split up the player base, we can’t even get them to plaster on the screen which car you won the game in.
