The Eliminator Needs Some Updates!

I really enjoyed The Eliminator in FH4 and was pleased to see it return in FH5 as once the main game is completed, there is very little I like to do apart from the weekly challenges, well apart from the boring Hotwheels Chamionships.

But The Elimiator has not changed one bit since FH5 launch.

The game definately needs some new cars and also new race routes as well as some of the rubbish 2WD cars retired (+ the X-Raid Mini).

But more than that, the whole game mode needs a refresh IMHO.

Some things I’d like to see are:

  1. Either add extra Level 1 cars in addition to the VW Beetle or get rid of that selection screen altogether and just spawn the VW in the players chosen location.

  2. The screen filling text overlays (and skills counters)! These have been a bugbear of many since the FH4 days and need to go!

Why not just have the text a bit smaller and at the bottom of the screen so it’s out of the way and not blinding you from seeing where you are going.

  1. Do away with the ability to choose spawn location after the first game.

IMHO, it would be better if subsequent games started from where you were when the previous game ended. That way, if a player wants to start from a favourite start location, they only have the time it takes for the next game to load to reach their preferred location, making start locations a bit more randomised.

This would make it a bit fairer for those who don’t know where the built-in spawn locations are, as once you’ve played for a while, you get to know locations where up to 5 car drops are in view at the start, giving well seasoned players an unfair advantage over newer players.

Stopping the choice of start location would go some way to level the playing field IMHO.

There other things, but these are off the top of my head and will add as I remember.

The Eliminator is a great game mode, but some of the above would polish/streamline the game a bit and make it more enjoyable, IMHO of course.

Given the leaks a few months ago one of the first updates of 2023 will be Eliminator focused.
The sound files hint at a co-op integration and a leveling/progress system.

I would assume the car roster will be updated alongside.
The biggest downside - the map - will still be there though.

I think it would benefit from a leaderboard showing wins, as would Horizon Open racing. The latter doesn’t even keep track of your wins in your own private stats which is incredible. But I think such competitiveness goes against the ‘everyone is a winner’ participation trophy mentality that these devs have.

Updating the car roster would be nice but it wouldn’t be surprise to me if they make it worse than it is.

As long as they don’t nerf the Audi RS 6

At the start of Eliminator, it’d be extremely useful if they could ask me if I’d like the VW Beetle delivered vs. just dropping it on me.
If they were to take away the feature of asking if I wanted my vehicle delivered in free roam when I select a car, I’d be walking aimlessly around the map, hitch-hiking back to my garage.

For me personally, I think the biggest issue Eliminator has is that the map of Horizon 5 makes it a bit boring. For most races, it’s just driving in a straight line and whoever has the best acceleration and top speed wins. In Horizon 4 you really had to think about what route you’re gonna choose, if you’re brave enough to go through the massive forest for example.

Not too sure what can be done about that though, I think that’s just something you have to like or dislike.
