Digital Foundry disassembled FM 2023

Absolutely true. They never said they hated FM.
However, they picked a winner and chose the game that is older and runs on last generation hardware, which does speak volumes. Also, they pointed out some really heavy flaws.

They did that for both games. They rightfully pointed out GT’s continued almost complete lack in damage modeling that Forza has always done. Neither game is without issues.

Also something that was not talked about and should have been in the video is that GT has had 18 months of support vs a couple for Forza. The GT game today is very much not what was at launch. That’s an unbalanced look in many ways too.

Thanks for telling people what they have to do. What should we do without your advice…

There’s been some tweaks as well as the addition of the 120 fps modes but the current state of GT7 when it comes to graphics is largely the same as it was since launch.

So yes, the next-gen-only Forza Motorsport got shown up by a nearly 2-years-old, crossgen game.

The core game is pretty much the same as launch. The only major issue at launch was the economy, which they addressed pretty quickly both in a written statement and then a patch. Forza is a worse game in pretty much every way. I personally think it feels nicer to play, but thats a preference rather than fact. Some visual aspects can be a preference as well but some things arent.

Visually it shouldnt have been this lopsided. He gave forza some thumbs up here or there but it felt to me as though he felt he needed to. During the lead up to this game it was said to be the most beautiful, its not, they said it was the most comprehensive forza, it most certainly isnt, and they said it was the most advanced racing game ever made, lol.

I own both consoles and have both games. My preference is forza though and this game is just disappointing in numerous ways. I dont see it getting better in 18 months tbh, im of the opinion that turn 10 doesn’t have a clue as to what people that play these games need never mind want.

The lack of care in the work they produced as well as the lack of care of their customers stands out the most to me. I dont see any game being successful with attributes like this. Theyre not sorry in any way, for any reason.

Ah you’ve done me wrong there pal. I don’t wanna hate on this game. Far from it. They declared GT7 the winner and the whole DF team was in agreement. John also said he didn’t want to pick a winner when starting the video , or words to that effect what is not clear about that for you?. If you disagree with him or anyone else that’s cool, and if you like it, that’s also cool but don’t make out like I’ve got an agenda other than being angry for being mislead and arguably mis-sold a product

That’s not true though. They had a segment on game play and the bare bones of forza. Watch the video before commenting

If only it had been a second ‘L’ they could have passed it off as an RE2 reference.

I suggest you rewatch the video. That’s literally 1 hour of graphics comparison and a few minute snippet at the end about gameplay and GUI.

Plus this: https://twitter.com/dark1x/status/1734641295459532887

What a weird comeback. You just confirmed my point and made out I was wrong. Okay

If you consider brief few minute segment, that also includes talk about GUI (which is part of the game’s graphical elements) in the end of one hour graphics talk a relevant part of that video and you want to label that analysis anything other than graphics comparison, then it’s your choice. That video, Digital Foundry Graphics Breakdown, was through and through about FM and GT7 graphics and not about content, game design, micro-transactions nor bugfests. So you can’t bring in, for example, “but GT7 was an empty shell in the beginning” - yes it was (and so is FM), but this wasn’t the point of the video.

Comprehension seems to be a struggle for you. You stated that the video was a graphical comparison: I stated correctly that this wasn’t the case and there was a segment on gameplay. You replied that I should rewatch video. Utterly bizarre

By that logic a 120 page cookbook, that has few paragraphs about some ingredient’s history, isn’t actually a cookbook.

Fine. I guess DF should next time label their videos correctly as well.

I won’t go any further with this unnecessary argument.

Jesus bro you literally said this and highlighted the graphics. Take the L and move on.

It was purely graphics comparison. Nothing more, nothing less

This comparison does a good job of demonstrating what irks me most about Forza’s visuals. I can forgive the weird materials, low detail head/taillights, incorrect car proportions proportions and trackside details, but the lighting is just weird. The dim sun and red haze are an uncannily accurate depiction of the atmosphere during a wildfire. I don’t expect it to look exactly like GT7 but wildfire sunsets were a weird left turn. Also note the complete absence of specular highlights and bloom on the car. I think we can all agree that the sun is bright and glossy cars are shiny but neither seem to be true in FM8

It seems no matter what we say they won’t listen, They won’t talk to us about anything or apologise. This to me shows they are only going to do the bare minimum each month. I so hope I’m proved wrong but I’ve so many doubts. If they would talk to us I would have some faith in them .At the moment I have none.

Omg i never even noticed .

Pure preference on the lighting. Life looks more like Forza than GT7. I prefer the less cartoonish approach/Forza. Take a look at F1 23. It looks amazing(just finished Bahrain), but it’s cartoonish in its brightness and color too. All three look good if you ask me.

Aesthetically, sure but realistically you would expect the sun to be bright and in FM8 it is… not, even in HDR/Dolby Vision.

And weirdly, pre-release trailers had neither issue and save for FM3, every other game in the series seems to do highlights and bloom just fine.
