I worry about this next Forza title, especially with how little news we are getting about it. While they say they’re headed to more sim-focus with new tire models, heat, and elevation effects, I can’t seem to believe T10 will hold to it. We watched FM7 go down the drain with the rampant obsession about graphics and little gameplay improvement over FM6, and we saw FH4 become a dumpster fire of weekly chores for small children to complete to get okay-at-best exclusive cars, and honestly, I have no idea on where this next motorsport title will go. Hopefully, T10 has seen the shifts in style in the DiRT and PCars franchises and seen how poorly those were received by the dedicated fans of those series, and keep Forza more sim-focused.
Also, Turn 10, please, we beg you, take more input from the fantastic Forza communities around your franchise. Keep us in the loop, tell us what’s going on. Don’t be afraid to get in direct contact with groups for suggestions and input. Consult some of the great livery designers at PTG for paint booth changes, talk to the insane drivers at TORA and/or DOR for input on handling. Don’t be afraid to have some public beta periods. I would much rather know what the game is going to be and help polish it up than have it locked away until a tweet or a video rolls out, only to find an unpolished game upon release. You have a highly dedicated community falling away from your grasp, and you could easily pull them back by keeping them in the loop and making a game not just for the casual player, but for the long-time fans, too.
The problem with communities is most of the people are completely off. You shouldn’t hear some * on the internet. It would be amazing to have normal Motorsport with Project cars feeling. You don’t need much more for racing fans. For others, it will never be enough. Bugs must be non-existent too.
Building new game from scratch is very hard and they probably don’t have enough done. GT7 is quiet too… like always.
Next Motorsport could be special. We’ll see in few years.
LOL, maybe something like show me your time and then we will see if you are good for voting. For instance, top 10 % players only. It’s very hard to hear some casuals without any experience. They want always everything. On the other hand good ideas could be from anybody. Track of the development could improve only best players, not average Joe who doesn’t know anything about racing.
Even Forza Motorsport 7 is awesome game and it doesn’t need much more to be perfect. If you start to hear casuals you are doomed. We are talking about possible racing simulator not some casual cash grab.
I think rather than the top 10% it would better to give more focus to long standing players. For example people who have owned 80% of forza games, or who have contributed to the forums for more than 5 years.
I’m all about this. Turn 10 needs to talk to the people who have been here going through this roller coaster the whole time and LISTEN. We’ve been so let down on several occasions since Forza Motorsport 4 and the community since that game has been decimated. If you ask me, so many problems get fixed if they decide to focus on the community first again. Bring us together with a single storefront again for all of our tunes, vinyl groups, designs, and photos. This makes one single place that the sim racers and casuals alike will go and discover each other. WE, and our interactions together about our work and progress in the game, need to be the top priority. Not bragging about having a million cars and slightly enhanced graphics. The game looks good enough already. Give us a functioning game and sew the FM community back together like it used to be.
I think the OP is a bit over dramatic, but has many good points.
The state of Hotlapping at launch of Motorsport 7 was really offputting, but they did fix it eventually, and with the addition of accurate track boundaries I’d say we’ve got the best hotlapping mode in the entire Sim Racing industry right now (no other Sim I know of has accurate track boundaries).
The #1 complaint with Forza from Sim enthusiasts right now is Force Feedback support.
I know people like to say Forza has bad physics but I don’t believe the Physics engine in Forza 7 is too much worse than other games, it’s a matter of implementation, something in the way controls are translated is messing it up.
Regardless we should still see a dramatic physics upgrade in the new Motorsport, but right now extra care and attention really needs to be poured into a new highly detailed Force Feedback system.
Given the new growth in the Sim market now would be a really good time to focus on wheel support.
Personally, on PC I prefer to run all my Sims above 300fps.
If we can at least get a 240fps mode on Series X|S I feel like that would make a big difference, even though the existing game engine might already have some physics code running faster than the rendered framerate, it’s obvious that the game isn’t sampling controller input any faster than the display refresh rate.
For the sake of wheel input I think we should have a full blown 240fps mode.
I know there aren’t any 240hz HDMI2.1 displays right now, so that really sucks, but that should become an option in the next few years as HDMI2.1 sees full adoption across high end PC monitors, at which point you’d want to support 1440p240hz as an alternative to 4K120hz.
Though I do think you could also run full 240hz physics and controller input while still rendering the GPU at 4K120fps, it sounds weird but I don’t see why the GPU can’t be allowed to keep rendering an old frame while the CPU runs the full simulation a second time in-between GPU frame outputs.
My ideal hotlapping mode would be 240hz physics and controller input with 4K120fps graphics.
The Xbox Controller doesn’t natively support 240hz right now either but at least it should be an option if you’re plugged in (like a wheel). Maybe someone could even make a call to the hardware guys at Xbox and try to enable a special wireless 240hz mode just for Forza. That new Series X controller has some pretty fancy wi-fi features so I wouldn’t be surprised if it can still do 240hz.
Also if they re-vamp the entire vehicle upgrade system that would be good, running 15 years on the same platform is probably enough. I have no idea how they would make it better, which does leave room to doubt if it can be better, but I’d like to see them try (ask the community and I’m sure people will have a ton of suggestions).
For one final suggestion (for now) I’d like to see Flatspotting added to the tire model.
240 FPS on consoles is too much. But every sim has much faster physical engine. Forza had 360 for X360 I think. It’s usually from 300 to around 1000 and depends on the parts. Some parts are more problematic than others.
And Xbox controller has very strong signal and it’s probably very good. At least better than anything else. XSX improved it again as you said.
