Cockpit camera placement in a lot of cars is ridiculous

I think this was mentioned in other thread but the FOV can not be just changed easily as it would throw off the prebaked lighting and rendering.

That sounds like a load of BS to me, if you could do it in 3 and 4 with triple screen options and the pre baked lighting and rendering then it should be manageable now on a more powerful system

FOV in forza has always been absolutely horrible

Driveclub is a pretty piss poor game but POV and attention to details on the car nails it

Please give us an option to move the POV of the cockpit view. It is WAY too far from the steering wheel. The car interior takes up way too much real estate. I.E. it’s hard as hell to see out of some (most) cars

ah, damn. Just saw this after posting this
http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst42864_Was-Shaquille-O-Neal-the-the-refernce-for-the-cockpit-view.aspx

I agree though. Cockpit view is not good.

I kind of like seeing the whole interior but yeah lol. The camera positioning seems to be really far away from the windshield. In the real world you would see more windshield than that. I for one know I cant see my mirrors and doors without turning my head to view.

yup this game looks like it was rushed, i mean come on 2 years to develop an extensive dlc with night and rain just isn’t enough, turn 10 and m$ seems to care more about selling same cars that nobody cares about for another 30$, again
and yes after 5 mins of hellcat i gave up, i’m only driving from cockpit view since F3 and even there it was bearable, this is just ridiculous, i haven’t had that view from the cockpit since i was 12 ffs, but like any other bugs from previous instalments this probably will never be fixed.
Despite of how i prefer forza to pcars, pcars does have adjustable cockpit view changer on the fly, on pc that is, then again if forza was on pc as well it would’ve been fixed within a week by people who actually care, still nice dlc, mod i mean new game

Are you in the same position for every car? It feels like you’re sitting in a race or exotic even if you are in a normal car.

FOV adjustment should be one for the 1st options thought about when looking into gameplay.
Going over hills etc is impossible in some cars…you just cant see whats coming.
And I agree with the bonnet cam…whats the deal with that?
Not to mention how the behind the car cam looks…makes everything look squashed and thin.
So two thumbs up for FOV settings and steering wheel removal.

Exact same issue same car. I loved the California in fm5. Don’t remember having this problem either. While the cockpit looks nice, the steering wheel blocks the road. It leaves that extra space below it but it just feels so wrong when you’re actually driving. Who thought this was a good idea? Did anyone bother to drive this thing? Especially in the nightfall series. I had to revert to the hood of the car mode. Uhg…was loving this game until this issue came up. Hope those doesn’t plague some of my favorite cars from fm5 fh2…

Exact opposite is true with the Ford Formula Ecoboost. The steering wheel is at your stomach. Should be between the chest and chin.

I think they’re not back far enough, i hate the close up ones, no driver would drive like that, one bump and you would knock your teeth out. When actually driving a car, you can see the mirrors, your legs, the full steering wheel, all in your peripheral vision, this is reality and exactly how the cockpit view should be.

But i hoped for seat adjusters,we should all be able to adjust how we see the cockpit view, pcars does this and its epic.

Id love to be able to remove the driver and wheel too,it is a major distraction when using a wheel

The only one which is perfect for me in the Lambo Miura. Have a look and you can see out the window clearly and the gauges, its not too close yet not too far back, you shouldnt be able to view all of the steering wheel in the cockpit view for most cars and the interior should definitely not be taking up most of the screen, we have Forzavista for viewing interiors. Even then some cars like the 458 have a wrong tacometer which is right in Forzavista LOL facepalm.

I have made my peace with most of the cars. Cause I know they never add a fov slider. But some cars must be fixed like the hellcat. But the bentley fov is not that bad. It’s a r acecar and the driver sit even in reality not in front and steering wheel is correct too in this cars.
As I played the demo I was so upset about that issue. I don’t think they will change this in 6. Maybe in fm7. All whe can hope is that some extreme low views will be fixed.

Guys, Turn 10 CAN’T give you options for in cockpit camera position, because the cockpit lighting as well as the reflexions are pre-baked.
They best thing they could do is give you like 3 options. “Far”, “close” and “dash-cam”, but they would have to do a lot of baking to get those for all cars, which would be like a 5-10gig download.

I agree, they should do that. But it’s not just adding a slider for the height value of the camera for Turn10 like it would be for Driveclub or PCARS with dynamic lighting.

You won’t get FOV options either because a) again processing power (even if it’s not much) and b) FOV changes the sense of speed for the human eye and I don’t believe they want their game look slower than it should.

They’re not pre-baked because you can see your hands and the steering wheel move in the reflection, the reflection intensity also changes depending on the lightening. So I do believe if they made the effort it could be done.

Hey guys, yes I noticed this too that some cars are absolutely horrible to drive in car view. I don’t know what Turn 10 was thinking but I hope it will get fixed soon.
I really hope they will learn from Evolution Studios on how they fixed almost everything in DriveClub via updates!
Trust me it’s possible to do anything via updates.
Turn 10 please fix the incar views & hood views cause some cars look like a game from the early 90’s
Thanks

Has anyone noticed that two similar cars are inconsistent at times?

The two 1981 Ford Racing Capri Turbos have two different views. The Zakspeed one has a pretty normal field of view, but the Liqui Moly one has the windshield banner so low that its barely above the track on flat terrain and you cant see anything if you’re heading uphill. The banner looks to take up about the same amount of the windshield, however, it seems you sit higher in the Liqui Moly one and therefore are practically looking directly at the back of the banner.

They are basically the same car, they should have the same field of view, doesnt make sense.

Its like all the designers were different heights and it just depends on which one sat in the particular car they were working on and just made it how they is it in. The guy that did the Hellcat must have been 5’2" and the guy in the Fiesta or the Lubri Moly car was 6’4" and they made no attempt to make things consistent.

The same for the two 908 hdi lmp cars plus they drive different. The 2009 version is horrible and the 2011 version looks and drive as it should. How can this be? Seems that different persons made the adjustments one is high tower from police academy and second a 8 year old child loool

Guys I solved this!

I was driving in my car yesterday morning trying to figure out why the view out the car in Forza is so bad when in my car I can see out just fine. Trying to gauge the scale of windscreen vs dashboard in my field of vision and so on, you know?

I figured out the problem. We’re sitting too far away from the TV! Forza was obviously tested using a racing rig where the screen is 20 or so inches from your face. Then you can see plenty out the windscreen. I found the exact distance that my eyes should be from my 42" TV needs to be around 5 inches in order for me to have the correct field of view in Forza as per sitting in my actual car. It’s rather uncomfortable, my eyes water and my nose gets pretty warm after a while but I can see the track really well now! On the upside I don’t have to wear my glasses to play Forza any more.
