Buying cars and using or earning free cars
The game starts you with a free VW Corrado, and in order to customize cars or use them for single player events, then you must add other cars to your garage via: using credits or tokens in the Autoshow; receiving a car as a free gift (Loyalty Rewards, sent by a friend, or Unicorns from Turn 10); or earning a free car during gameplay (Barn Finds, Showcase event prizes, Star Showdown event prizes, Online Level random awards). Installing DLC makes pack cars available in the Autoshow to buy or use in shared Club garages, but does not automatically gift cars to your own garage; credits or tokens are required as with the basic installation cars. Total garage capacity is 550 cars. Multiplayer game modes provide a free rental car from each class to ensure that you can participate if you don’t own a qualifying car.
Sharing, Gifting, and Selling cars
You can sell cars back to the game for half their purchase value plus half the discounted purchase price of upgraded parts. Unicorns, cars bought with tokens, and all cars received by gift (including from friends) have a sell-back value of 100cr (plus part value). Barn Find cars cannot be sold or gifted once you have collected them. Owned cars and unicorns may be shared with Clubs as long as they are not using locked designs downloaded from the Design Storefront. Cars can be gifted to friends with the following exceptions: cars that were received as a gift from T10 (loyalty cars and unicorns), cars bought with tokens, or cars using locked designs. Non-DLC cars can be used by all members of a Car Club. If you do not own the DLC for a shared club car, you will not be able to use it.
Car Classifications and Attributes
Each car has a Performance Index number to give you a sense of its relative strength to other cars, and PI ranges are grouped into classes from E (100) to R1 (999). Generally the higher the PI the faster the car is but a lower PI number can beat a higher one in the game depending on track type. Each car is classified with one Body Style (Economy, Sedan, Hatchback, Sports Car, Supercar, Open Top, SUV, Superlight). Some cars are classified with a Family Type, such as M3, Mustang, or Skyline. Most cars in the game are Production cars, but a few are classified as Pre-tuned, or Race. Some events in Single player use these classifications to restrict entry to eligible cars models. Each unique car model has 1000 Club challenges associated with it, and certain cars are required for Achievements and PR Stunts.
