Car sound/ turbo charger spool

Some of the cars idles are also more noticeable now. Not quite where it should be especially many of the race cars but I notice if I crank my sound on the TV up some I can hear idles in car or chase cam. Where as before they were quiet.

Oh yes, I immediately picked up the more audible idle sounds on my amp - they are fantastic! I haven’t been able to put Forza down since the update, TBH

The reverb as Evan pointed out has been noticeably improved as well - sounds much more real now. You have to hook up an amp and speakers street burner, I’m telling you!

Oh and some feedback for the devs:

The latest BMW race car you guys offered up for free - the one with that lovely turbo sound - it still sounds like an Z4 GT car. It does not have V8 and sounds more like the M6 GTE.

And, why does the RTR Mustang road car sound so hollow and “small” from the cockpit view? It has a fully insulated cockpit - where’s the bass and rumble?

Finally, can we PLEASE get volume adjust for super high-pitched trans whine and possible turn down those choppers and rumble strips without having to lower the track or tire volume? The trans whine is unbearable in the FXX-K or P1 GTR for instance - both cars have cockpit insulation and their trannies do not whine like GT race cars. Please adjust this you guys - I can’t live without the P1 GTR or the FXX-K!

P1 GTR needs to have a louder turbo whistle and blow off valve.

Both the 89’ Audi IMSA GTO and 86’ Sport quattro rally car have lovely blow off valve sounds - thanks a lot for that! It was a requested feature - however, after upgrading the turbos on both cars, the blow off valve sound disappears!!

Off-topic: please fix the F40 turbo needle - it falls back flat to 0/nil on acceleration after upgrading turbos.

I do plan to get at least a decent sound bar soon so I’ll hopefully hear an even bigger sound difference. And yes the M8 GTE sounds way off from the real thing. It needs to sound like the m6 GTLM but with maybe a louder exhaust or louder turbo whistle, either or. Its interesting they finally adjusted the sound for the Ford gt GTLM but it’s still wrong, it doawnr have that gurgle raspiness the real car does. And it’s weird because it sounded close in FM6 but they cant seem to get it right for 7. I’m a little disappointed on how they handled the Audi 90 quattro, TURN THE BLOWOFF VALVE NOISE UP T10! Lol

Nice to know about the Murcielago, got to try soon.
And guys, did you try the Ferrari 488GTB? It gives me pain to hear that sound.
It sounds like a V12 without turbo, not the 488 V8(although it has turbo sounds). I mean, I love V12 aspirated…but it doesn’t match with the 488GTB.
I can be wrong ofc, but I wanna hear your opinion about it.

the 488 sounds okay - actually improved over the previous sample from what i can tell

hope they will give all the V8’s their unique sound

and really hoping dynamic bass will be added to exhaust sounds along with getting rid of that dreadful hollow cockpit sound in cars that shouldn’t have it: P1 GTR, FXX-K, Mustang RTR Spec 5… and many other examples. Powerful cars rumble with bass and vibration in cockpit and their transmission don’t whine like a jet engine.

The trans whine, suoer-loud helicopters, bassy rumble strips and lack of dynamic bass in mid-high torque range are my main complaints…
other than that, thumbs up on the car sample updates. Gotta give credit where it’s due. Some of the cars aren’t entirely spot on (R34 Skyline, Aventador and maybe One77) but totally improved over the previous ones, I wouldn’t want to go back to those!

This is what I was missing on the 488, dynamic bass to exhaust sounds.

Correction, this is what’s missing from every car. I play in my Home Theater, on a 7.1.2 Atmos system with a 1500 watt sub. I might as well play on TV speakers if I were to play FM7. Zero bass from any cars engine or exhaust, although some have accurate sound and tone, all sound tiny and fake without bass and low frequencies to bring them to life.

H&K 7.1 amp here and with volume jacked to 50% the helicopters and rumble strips make my room’s windows shake while the cars sound ‘tiny’ and shrill. What is going on with their sound mixing department? has no one ever been to a real race or gotten into one of these cars? Rumble and bass - please add the correct layers. My cars shouldn’t sound like TV speakers when I’m playing on a powerful amp that makes my windows shake, courtesy of the nosedive bombing helicopters and “whoosh” effects!

the worse part, cranking the volume up further just causes ear fatigue. Cars do not have such high pitch and treble like this IRL unless we’re talking about 90s and early 2000s F1 cars. Even then, the decibels are really loud and you can feel the grandstands shaking as a car pack crosses the finish line.

T10 needs to research car sound and bring it up to the same level as the physics and visuals in the game which are nothing short of spectacular.

I’m enjoying the improved car sounds. I hope Turn 10 keeps up the improvements.

Notes to Turn 10
Get rid of the fluff like the Unrealistic Driver Gears
Add tracks from previous Forza versions missing in Forza 7
Add Pitstop Animations
Add Ability to make adjustments and repairs during Pit Stops
Qualify Laps (Single player and Multiplayer)
Working fuel level gauge/indicator

Guys, the Nissan GT-R 2012 has the same engine from the Ford GT 2017? It sounds just like the same on F7.

Not surprised🤦‍♂️

Yeah no surprise. It’s sad to know that total number of cars and the whole 4K/60fps thing is going to be the benchmark now instead of one of the ways which has historically made Forza authentic: nuanced and real-life car sounds.

Since I’m here - why aren’t they fixing the M8 GTE sound? It’s got a great turbo sound but why on God’s green earth does it sound like the naturally aspirated V8 race engine from the Z4 GTE?

We have to keep making a big deal about this guys, I received some feedback from the sound lead guy who was just on forza monthly. He said they still have work to do but to keep posting here and they will see what options and things they need to work on. So I suggest we compile another list of cars that have incorrect or mixed audio sounds and hoping they get around to it sooner than later.

Here’s a few off the top of my head ;
-M8 GTE- has mixed audio, sounds like the z4 GTE when It should sound similar to the m6 GTLM

  • Ford gt GTLM- does not have that raspy snarly exhaust like in real life. It sounded almost perfect in FM6
  • many cars with turbos lack that distinct blow off valve sound, not all should be audible but some should be( 1991 Nissan r91 cp)
  • many muscle car v8s from the 60s and 70s sound similar and lack that choppy or deep bass idle
  • many of the race cars sound too high revvy as does some of the production v8 engine cars ( Corvette c6 zr1)
  • majority of cars overall lack bass and depth in their engine/exhaust notes that was present in previous forza motorsport games.
  • the 2016 and 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS both sound worse after this new update. They need a more high pitch flat six signature Porsche sound. They now sound too deep
  • the Nissan skyline R30 super silhouette has the wrong sound. It should sound exactly like the bluebird silhouette but instead it has a standard skyline inline 6 sound.

I highly doubt we’re ever going to get accurate sounds for a game that has around 800 cars. Expectations need to be lowered. However, the April Update was a big leap in the correct direction. We all know there need to be improvements but we can’t be unrealistic here, it’ll just leave us disappointed. 800 cars is a massive feat.

And what if someone told you that they can pull it off? They are looking into it, that’s for sure. Will it take a while? Absolutely! Will they all be fixed? Well, with enough time, they can. FM8 doesn’t debut until the new Xbox comes out in 2020 (i’m guessing, don’t quote me!), so they’ve enough time to dedicate an entire time just for sound fixing and improvements.

The April car sound update was a breath of fresh air and a positive direction. I look forward to more updates, because I’ve certainly been enjoying the game more since the lat update.

Update: Can we please have the May or June update dedicated to improvements on the McLarens and American V8s (classic and modern)?

McLaren - all the modern road cars sound the same apart form the 720S; they share the P1’s note, which is not entirely accurate to start with. American V8s sound all too similar between cars, even different manufacturers. P1 GTR is way too whiny and high pitched. Cockpit has insulation and air conditioning - should not sound hollow. Trans whine way too high-pitched. Exhaust rumble almost absent.

A little more punchy bass and volume please overall. The April update was just awesome. Here’s to many more - until all cars are on the same level!

P.S: I like the Aventador LP-700 sound you guys updated but it sounds strange on deceleration and downshifts - it’s a weird and distorted, very synthesized effect - rather than that raspy exhaust character the real Aventador has on off-throttle and downshifts.

LaF and FXX-K - ahh, pure bliss.

Really hoping to see improvement in the latest update. If not, then June I hope.

All American V8s need to be distinct from one another and sound more “rumbly” and “throaty”, and less high pitched.

All modern Mclarens need their unique sounds. The Senna sounds fantastic but lacks bass and growl. Again, too high pitched.

The modern Benz’s could also use more bass and “intimidating” exhaust character as well.

All in all, extremely happy with the work they did to improve the Lambos, Porsches, Ferraris, Civis, Skylines and a few others in the last update. Please keep the good stuff coming Turn 10! I’m starting to enjoy this game a lot with the consistent improvements.

They should re-do their sound back-end/framework, revert it back to how it was in FM6 would be a great start . There’s no bass, and the sounds lacks many details. Like they really squished the range in mixing process or something. Listening to the Forza 6 Apex today, and it’s sad how much worse it is in FM7.

T10 please.

I don’t think it’s going to go back to how good it was in all their games that came out before FM7 and FH4. It’s a new ‘technique’ they are experimenting with apparently, and it’s just sad.

I’m willing to bet they will use the X series to milk out more graphics from Forza, along with a handful of features most don’t want.

The days of Forza being an authentic driving game are behind us I think. The sounds really made it stand out, now it’s one of its biggest weaknesses.

Cars in a game should never sound tiny, squashed and compressed. That’s like a call of duty game or a mortal kombat game with really poor gun sounds and ‘beat em up’ sounds.

I don’t know why they can’t just translate the sound 1:1 from real life to game. The technology is there, but their motivation isn’t.

Even Dan Greenawalt doesn’t show up anymore, chiming enthusiastically about the next Forza.

Forza 4/Horizon 1 really were the glory days. I remember how powerful and varied the cars sounded - and those wonderful wind noise effects that drowned out the engine noise at higher speeds. Bliss, I tell you!

The new generation of Forza is: really loud track effects and arcade ‘flash’ effects (for Horizon) - with tiny, high pitched remote-control sounding cars.

Apollo I.E in FH4 is a disappointment. You can tell they recycled the old FXX K sound and used it. I’m just hoping that it’ll sound like its supposed to in FM7.

I hope so too - it has a very distinct V12 note which I’m hoping the developers will research on properly before including it in the game.
