[ANSWERED] Please correct car sounds and increase car volume, exhaust rumble and bass

Dear dev team,

Kindly take into account the following:

  • Car samples for the V12 Ferraris and Lambos as well as the AM One-77 in fact, are all sharing generic V12 notes with variations in pitch. Please patch them with the correct sounds, particularly unique exhaust character found in previous games
  • Increase car volume and bass to make exhaust sound and character more audible, i.e boosting bass and “rumble/oomph” felt from the car
  • Car sounds are very high pitched and “trebly”, making them sharp and ear fatigue inducing, since bass and midrange are nearly absent
  • Cars that sounded absolutely fantastic and fairly accurate in previous games now have missing exhaust sounds such as the Carrera GT, 918 Spyder, F12TDF etc. Fair to say that it’s more of an ‘across the board’ problem rather than car-specific.
  • Everything in the game has reasonable bass from the UI effects to the track and ambient effects; please adjust the sound mixing to bring out the car exhaust sounds and bass in the engine/exhaust notes.
  • Distinct exhaust notes not only missing or hardly audible for the respective cars but also incorrect as mentioned above.
  • Exhaust sounds not really distinct or audible when moving from first person views to chase came; i.e. the signature “wail” of a Carrera GT or Aventador is not audible as mostly the motor sound is audible only in chase cam. More examples: no distinct exhaust sound switching to chase cam for the One-77, LaF, Zonda R or FXX-K (all exhibit their own unique exhaust snarl or scream + rumble in Fm6/H3)
  • Sample sharing across same and different manufacturers (Aventador, Aventador SV, Veneno, Centenario or the modern V12 Ferraris)
  • Please add an option in the sound menu to boost car volume and bass felt/heard from the exhaust sound. In addition, (just to reiterate) exhaust sounds are not distinctly audible going from a first-person view to chase cam, as is the case in H3/FM6 (motor sound from the first person views should sound distinctly different as opposed to hearing the exhaust sound from chase cam). Great examples in FM5, 6 and H2/3.

Kindly refer to this thread for more references, examples and sound issues:

Thanks very much for reading. Fixes would be highly appreciated.

I’d also like to add that some sounds were done very well, both i interior and exterior. (Mclaren F1, Mercedes AMG GTR)

If more cars had that distinct change in 3rd person audio it would be fantastic.

Also, Zonda R sounds very weak, and muted in comparison to the mind numbing v12 screech from FM4.

Same goes for F12TDF which sounded amazing in horizon 3 and F12 from FM6.

I could continue but those are my main gripes, those and v12 Lamborghinis as well.

A few other cars I’ve noticed, I’ll keep editing the list:

I’ve went through nearly every Ferrari now. Some amazing sounds, but some very poor:
LaFerrari
458 speciale sounds like a weird 488, needs to be more 458.
F12
F12 TDF
FXXK
Enzo (sounds like the lambo v12s) this is probably the worst one since previous Forzas has it bang on)

Went through all the Lamborghinis, cars noted:
Diablo - (not bad, however horizon 3 was waaay better, the sound resonated through speakers lovely)
Murcielago SV - Sounded way better in Horizon 3, but not too bad
Aventador/Aventador SV/ Veneno/ Centenario - all need there sound files copied from Horizon. Never has a game got them as correct as Horizon 3.
All the Lamborghini v10s I feel needs an update, theyre just lacking quality.

Others Noticed:
Carrera GT
GT3 RS (newest model)
MC12 Maserari (same engine as Enzo, sounds like the LaFerrari in the game)
Aston One-77

Errors other than sounds noted whilst I’ve been testing:

Ferrari F50- The sound is fine, just noting that in cockpit view the whole front bumper shakes the same as the wipers. Seems okay in other views.
Ferrari F430 Scuderia- Again sounds fine, however the interior dash can (after the full interior view) if far too high. Can’t see the dials.
2011 458 GTC- gear animations don’t work after subsequent upshifts / Downshifts

Please change all R35 Gtrs back to fh3’s sample as well as the lambos (aventador mainly) and the ferrari’s have the wrong sounds (as stated above in x Nufc sam x post) , less intake noise from the turbo cars for example the r32-r34 skylines , “less porsche like sounds with more spool”. More exhaust noise instead of hearing the intake sound from the chase cam and I feel we need more spooling sounds , even some "open downpipe down spool"sounds for the turbo cars like a screamer pipe… I also cars with dsg boxes should shift faster and they need the “pop” they give during gear changes(the a45 amg sounded absolutely amazing In fh3).

Also, I didn’t know where would be a good place to add this, but I noticed that while driving the Sauber C9:

Your driver does not shift whatsoever; His hands literally stay on the wheel and the car shifts it’s slow iconic shifts. I can’t use that car while that bug is in place, lol - Kills the immersion for me.

Please report non-sound related bugs in the relevant thread not this one. Thanks.

I’d also like to echo about the Skyline R35 GTRs - they have the wrong sample, along with nearly every modern V12 Ferrari and Lambo (minus the Murceilago). Maserati Gran Turismo - completely wrong sample. 2017 Ford GT sounds practically the same as the 2017 R35 GTR. Missing exhaust wailing sound on the Carrera GT and 918 Spider. Ariel Atom too high pitched and virtually no exhaust sound or rumble.

As mentioned before, bass needs to be added to motor and especially exhaust sounds and exhaust sound needs to be completely separate from the motor sound and distinct for the respective cars (when going to chase cam particularly) - so a One-77 should sound like it while a Zonda R or Vulcan should sound like the actual car, given the exhaust note. FM6 and Horizon 3 has some excellent samples for reference.

There’s too much intake sound in the cockpit view for a lot of V12 cars and most cars I’ve driven so far, while there’s not enough rumble/bass and again, “oomph”. Please boost midrange and bass for car sounds and make them higher decibels… some of the high pitched, screaming V12 cars like the Vulcan and Zonda R should be generating a lot of decibels and kicking sound out of the speakers that’s almost violent. Huayra BC sounds a bit high pitched - doesn’t sound like the somewhat quiet and “turbo-happy” car it is in real life… turbo blow-off is much louder.

Will keep everybody posted as I come across more cars. Thanks again.

You hit the nail on the head!!! I paid $100 for this game just like all the others. I would at least hope these iconic cars would sound somewhat close to their real life counterpart…

Reason for some of these sound issues, is the fact the game does NOT feature unique sound “.bank” files for them, for example with Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche the only vehicles that have engine sound samples are as follows, copied directly from the “fmod” folder of bank files on PC, i made a picture compilation:

As you can see, many of the cars mentioned here do NOT even have engine sound sample .bank files associated with them, especially some of the ones as listed above. One-77, Zonda (which has no bank files), some Lambos/Ferraris and Porsches not all have sounds associated with them. One that bugs me is the:

for_escortrs1600_73.bank

This sample is shared with a few classic I4 engines from vehicles in the game, incorrectly! For starters, this sound bank is being used by the Fiesta XR2 as well which is absolutely WRONG! WHY WAS THE FH3/FM6 SAMPLE REMOVED FROM THE GAME? I can’t get over how upset I am at A) this sample being shared across two completely different sounding I4 engines and B) The sample it self is once again different from FM6/FH3s samples.

Plenty of examples in the list and in game that are suffering from the wrong sounds, missing sounds, duplicated sounds or outright broken sounds.

For the most part we have roughly 285 samples that, on the cars they are unique on, sound fantastic overall and a big step up from FM6 and FH3 however some of those perfect, fantastic FM6 and FH3 samples on cars that DID have unique sounds…is now gone, missing or been reworked in the wrong way.

I doubt they will go through and globally fix so many errors/missing sound .banks and duplicated sounds any time soon…but i wanted this to be drawn more attention too.

285 .bank files is a great number and gives a lot of cars personality, but this number is lacking some key additions especially when those samples were in FH3 and sounded very good, why remove them?

This makes the whole case for a massive car sound update stronger for sure. Thanks very much for taking the time to bring this out in the open. On a really positive note, some sounds have been improved tremendously - the SLS AMG sounds much more convincing now and the Jaguar F-type sound isn’t so lackluster anymore. F40 sounds much improved as opposed to the somewhat compressed and robotic sound in the previous two iterations. But not to go OT as we should keep it focused on what needs to get resolved. However, just to quickly add, even the great sounding ones lack that bass, “loud oomphiness” and midrange.

But as you pointed out, while supporting all your points, that samples are either missing or shared heavily across the same manufacturer and different manufacturers. This and the lack of bass and decibels need to be resolved I believe. If we can give them some time and patiently wait, I think a fix isn’t too much to ask or an unrealistic expectation.

No problem :).

I think it would not be a huge job to bring over the FH3 sound samples (or hell even the FM6 sound samples) for cars that DID have unique sounds in those games, especially for me:

  • XR2 Fiesta
  • RS 1600
  • Toyota Hilux Diesel
  • 2005 Hot Wheels V8 Mustang sound (which was brutal/awesome!)
  • T6 Rally Raid Ranger (Again, awesome sound in FH3)
  • F12-TDF

Etc, I could go on but the idea behind this, would be I truely believe T10 need to invest in bringing already very solid sound samples over from FH3 to FM7. That, and from FM6 to FM7. With 285 for the most part, very good to exceptional sound samples already in-game, it would be a huge WASTE of resources not to re-coup sounds from previous games, especially for cars that already had them.

Hopefully we can get the attention of the sound engineers or sound team to take notice here.

i wish they would give us more sound settings , i would love to add more db to the backfire pops

I’m too scared to drive an r35 gtr or any v12 for that matter because it would literally spoil the game for me and I’d lose interest. Turn 10 please get your act together , it’s unfair that we spend all this money on a broken game! Don’t be another Gran Turismo

Oh and before I forget , the menu has more bass then the actual cars Nuff said👎

I’m just curious, would it be a massive operation to swop some samples from fm6 and fh3 into fm7?

thats kinda what you get with 700+ cars. Either you get quality over quantity or the latter. Pretty much what I expected for a 2 year cycle project. Some cars odometer and clock are just 2d pictures, same with fuel gauges.

  • Vulcan and Zonda R are strangely quiet and hollow-sounding in cockpit view, virtually no bass or midrange

  • M4 coupe sounds completely different from the previous games, not sure what to make of it; maybe it’s a 350Z sound maybe something else, but definitely not the signature sound. Also no crackles or feedback from the exhaust at all on off-throttle, upshifts/downshifts, rev limiter bouncing etc.

  • 599 GTO has lost the high pitched, growly exhaust sound that’s typical of the 599 GTO exhaust; sounds weak and “whiny” as it redlines

  • Was driving a 2016 Porsche GT3 at Spa and kept hearing this loud, bassy thudding sound… is that the undercarriage getting scraped? Because I saw no sparks flying or the car getting upset, even though I thought it’s maybe the suspension bottoming out. Still an obnoxiously loud and bassy effect that kept happening on Spa after every turn or two.

  • Cobra 427 has 6 gears now when selected as a rental but no tranny whine. It’s suppose to have 4.

  • Lykan Hypersport has taken a completely different sound, again, and I can’t tell if it’s borrowing notes from one of the V12 cars in the game or one of the modern Porsche road cars.

  • Konigsegg One has a generic note; typical growl and howl missing from exhaust sound. Also barely audible off-throttle sound, just crackles.

  • Cars with non adjustable flappy-paddle gearboxes (Alfa Romeo Competizoine, Ferrari 430 S) have a sport tranny whine, particularly more audible in second gear for some reason, even though their gearboxes are stock.

  • What’s going on with the AM DB11? It sounds like a 12-cylinder car. Has 6 cylinders. Sounded very good in H3.

I’m not entirely buying that MSPEED because look at FM6 - what a stellar job they did bringing those sounds to life. Sure, there were shortcomings but very minor. Certainly not at this scale.

It could take weeks, maybe a month, perhaps more… by my estimate. That, coupled with the improvements in the FM7 sound stange should set a lot of wrongs right as it would bring out the exhaust sounds more and give the cars “meat, oomph and character”. Much needed bass, most important of all. And from thereon, they might start applying the correct notes to the correct cars. It sounds like a lot to ask but then the current state isn’t too impressive either.

The only replay you can expect will most likely be in the form of a major patch which might fly in next Tuesday. If not, then we may get one in Novemeber on any given Tuesday. Seems realistic as there’s a lot that needs to be scrutinized and re-assessed. However, the mixing issue that’s causing lack of bass, volume and oomph in the cars might be something that can be fixed next week. I can’t say for sure. I’d rather they not rush it, so I’m willing to wait patiently as long as there is a fix coming.

Pretty sure there is.
