From seeing a couple of videos, it gives the impression you can only buy certain cars once you achieve a specific rank on single player.
Is this how it will actually work?
If so, seems quite backwards - many people prefere the online, and having cars behind a virtual progression hinders what can be done in online leagues.
Sounds like how it was done in FM1 and FM2 and I like it that way.
While you’re right, many experienced players would like to go straight into online multiplayer - the same is true for new casuals to the game. If the state of the lobbies on FM5 at the moment is anything to go by (free this month on ‘Games with Gold’ so lots of people who have never touched a FM game before) then making these new players take a crash course in the basics of the game through the campaign can’t be a bad thing.
While that is a good idea in theory, the campaign modes in these games actually don’t teach people how to properly race.
By starting you in the middle of the pack every time and only giving you 3 laps to get to the front, it basically teaches players to force their way past the other cars, and this mindset certainly carries over to the multiplayer.
I’m not even really talking about the crashing. Its the complete lack of awareness of competitiveness. At least a period getting decimated by drivatars will encourage them to look at why their under PI’d C Class car isn’t getting within 10 secs of the one or two of us in the lobby who are waltzing off into the distance
I feel like the OTHER way of doing it is exactly what Gran Turismo Sport is doing and literally using the campaign as a esports racing school. But, Turn 10 and Polyphony are on opposite ends of the racing game spectrum this time where Forza 7 is focused on the car collection with over 700 cars and GTS is focused on the racing aspect since…it’s a pretty pure esports title…which Forza has never been, yet. Maybe they’ll slip to a 3 year cycle with a Forza Online thing, but I doubt it.
Then make it so public lobbies are behind a progression system, but private lobbies work as FM5/6, since we know who would be driving.
Racing all stock is not a good solution either, as sometimes we would allow upgrades to even the field, and of course, have custom paint jobs.
I hope its like this in single player. I don’t like the way all racing games unlock everything from the start. I like the surprise of unlocking a new car or track Having everything unlocked in offline single player is pointless in my opinion. They should have all cars unlocked for multiplayer though.
Experienced FM player here, been playing since FM1’s release day. I would personally be happy to see a return back to the way Forza’s of the past handled things, including requiring more credits for the more expensive cars, gives something to work toward, a sense of progression.
The one thing that puts me off in the forza series is the posibility to buy the fastest cars on the planets from the first minute (if you have the credits)
It seems that some don’t get this progression, this was done back in the FM 1 and 2 days. Any progress that was made in the SP was carried over to the MP so any cars you bought or was unlocked in SP was carried over to MP. This is the right way to go because having everything unlocked kind of killed the purpose of SP. But knowing T10 over the past few iterations, they’ll find a way to mess it up. Sounds like some might actually have to work to get the cars they want since the past few iterations everything was just given to them.
Progression in SP / Public MP? Absolutely fine and a welcoming change.
Progression in PRIVATE MP? Not so good. Not everyone (as in, older generation) has the time to put in a game to unlock every single car. However, they do enjoy spending a day a week racing in privately setup championships.
This is a sample of the car list used in one of the championships: Sim Racing Manager If we want to repeat this on FM7, how many hours does each one has to put into the game to be able to get those cars?
I hope there is some kind of progression. The lack of progression in Forza games makes them very difficult to enjoy playing later down the line, for me at least. Its hard to want to come back to Forza a few months later when you can just get everything from day one.
They’ve mentioned from the beginning that there was a collection tier system and a heavy emphasis on car collecting and to be honest, the option of winning championships to unlock certain cars would go over as well as a ton of bricks with some people, just as having to buy cars to unlock higher tiers has, although I imagine your scenario would be worse.
What I found is saying a huge portion will be unlocked simply by buying cars. There may be a handful of cars that can only be obtained via career completion. Not sure if you can stack cars though (ie buy 5 hummers).
That’s the thing, it worked for the first 2 iterations just fine but when the community has grown bigger so have the complainers. And you don’t have to buy 5 of the exact same cars to get into a different, what sense does that even make. If the person doesn’t want to buy the game now because they have to progress then that’s one less complainer to deal with. T10 can’t cater to all groups, it’s going to be a mix bag and don’t start whining when it’s not catering to a specific group. It was quite dull to have all the car unlocked because it made SP irrelevant.
If you don’t have the time or the will to progress through SP then this game isn’t for you now, stay with FM6 then. And what I remember progression was quite simple along with having enough funds to buy anything you want. See, after FM2 this community went down hill.
