First off I’m sorry if this is being posted in the wrong spot I haven’t really been on the new forums
I have still yet to relearn how to drift and race since leaving fm4. I bought the console just after Christmas and no matter what tune or controller setting I run everything seems to go bad. I can hardly get three corners to link together before spinning out, and the only racing I can do are the F1 races. I drifted for hours on fm4 and I believe this is the root of the problem I tend to revert to my old habits no matter what mindset I’m in. When it comes to circuit racing the cars tend to break traction too easily and even with vibration down these new controllers suck. Online is impossible as I don’t enjoy being pit maneuvered every second corner or being bashed into at 200mph. The clean racing circuit guys are great but I can only keep up in prototype and f1. Combined with my giving up on re-creating my hundreds of vinyl’s and designs. I’ve reached the point that I will most likely sell my Xbox if I can’t figure anything out as Forza and GTA are the only reasons I game. If anybody has any suggestions please feel free I really have lost faith in this series
Well there are alot of different things you can try. First off to get you back on the track asap i would recommend going to the tuning section of the new forums. While in there look for tunes by ONR ROADRUNNER, TN EAGLE, and TG WORMBURNER. There are alot of open source tunes in there for you to try that way you can also tweak it to your hearts content. Now about the dirty racer all i can say is BLOCK THEM ASAP. Thats what i do and i very rarely run in to them anymore. Also once you get your skill up you will find better lobbies. Now when you do find good lobbies dont be afraid to ask questions to the guys in there. Most of us will always try to help out even if that means giving up a tune. If you have to turn TCS on for a while until you get used to the cars. Now while driving with TCS dont take advantage of it. What i mean by that try not to let the TCS light come on while cornering or under acceleration. If you can do that pretty well then shut off your TCS and watch your times increase usually. If you would like some help tuning just send me a freind request and message asking for help and the ERS crew will help you out with a few cars.
Dont get down man there are always clean and friendly racers waiting to help those who ask.
I can race, I just can’t drift very well. I used to be pretty decent at drifting before, but not in FM5. I am not even half as decent as I was. But I practice makes perfect, and that’s about all I can say for anyone to do.
exactly. same reason mid engine cars are so hard to master now. this is the reason easy to drive games (need 4 speed) are so popular, they give you the satisfaction without the investment.
A good car to drift with is the Audi R8. It was my second drift car and it has been awesome to drift. I never could drift before, but thanks to the Audi, I’m just like them. You should try it!
I was kinda the same when I tried to drift on Forza 5 the first time. I’m almost a pro at drifting in FM4, I’d usually always end up in the top 3 of the lobby, mostly 1st and 2nd though
But when I started drifting on Forza 5, oh boy was it hard, first car was a S15 which I admit is a pretty damn hard car to drift especially with a redone Physics engine that is way more realistic than its predecessor. so I started expirementing with different cars and I learned A few things that are different.
most drift cars are supposed to be JDM cars but in this game the best cars that always end up in the top 3 are usually European Supercars or European cars in general which is weird since those were not the best drift cars in Forza 4.
try upgrading your car without an engine swap (aka Stock Engine) put whatever engine upgrade you want but leave the engine swap to the stock engine, if it doesn’t work or doesn’t have much power in it then put the next engine swap right next to the stock one and do the same process. Sure it will cost credits for the parts but thats the fun about experimenting with cars (Note: and always drift Rear Wheel Drive, All wheel drive is fine but you won’t get much drifting out of it most of the time and has too much grip)
Also to let you know, most people like to Advance tune their cars but I personally don’t ever touch that part and try to fix it with upgrades only. My favorite cars to drift with are the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series, 2013 Viper and I’ve seen a couple people using the 458 Italia as a drift car and it seemed to work very well for them.
Other than that, I wish you luck and always practice.
It’s the tricky balance of frustration vs. satisfaction.
In some games the skill bar is set very low (Outrun 2 for example) and you can hold a drift by not touching your controller. The downside is that the game isn’t very rewarding.
The new Forza is far more challenging (at least initially) than previous FM titles, but even though I’m no where near my previous standard, it’s already far more enjoyable and rewarding. For the first couple of weeks I had a hard enough time catching slight oversteer on corner exit without spinning the car. Now I’m able to catch it 98% of the time and it feels delicious every time.
Stick with it, you’ll enjoy it all the more once you crack it.
G’day Guys,
I too was very keen on drifting in FM4… I have a fanatec wheel and built a handbrake from scratch to make it even more realistic.
However on FM5 i’ve given up… not just drifting but driving all together. I’m ridiculously unimpressed with the controls… not the physics… the controls.
The brake is almost unusable, i drive with ABS off and it locks up every where with only 2 or 3 mm of the brake trigger pulled in (yes i have tried adjusting the dead zones)
Adjusting the dead zones just means that you can pull in the trigger 10mm before it starts braking, then at 13mm… lock up. Tried two controllers, same on both.
The thing that annoys me the most is the steering. The wheels stop moving from left to right at about 3/4 of moving the stick across, however when in cockpit view, the driver is still turning the wheel through the entire range of stick motion. I tested this by going to outside view, spinning the camera around so that i could see the driver and the front wheels. then if you move the sticks very slowly from left to right… you can see what i mean, the wheels stop turning but the steering wheels continue’s spinning.
This means that when you release the stick whilst drifting it takes a hell of a lot longer for the wheels to center or go from full lock left to full lock right.
Probably works ok with the steering wheel but im not willing to pay 600AUD for a wheel with only paddle shift and no clutch.
And why are so many people complaining about autovista when the driving itself is still busted…
Hey buddy, the driving isn’t busted. Invest in the Thrustmaster TX wheel. I hear ya on price & clutch, but the problems you are experiencing with controller would be gone. I absolutely love that wheel. Forza 5 plays just fine while using it. Me personally, haven’t used a controller on Forza since original game. I went from MS Wheel on Xbox 360 to the magnificent Thrustmaster TX on Xbox One. IMHO, Thrustmaster TX is worth every cent. Remember, the wheel is based off the Italia, it doesn’t have a clutch. Paddle shift car. It is what it is. The shifter & clutch pedal set can be added (i’m sure you know). You might as well enjoy Forza 5 to the max by buying the wheel.
