Maxwell’s Speed Shop’s proudly presents the 1st, possibly months Drag Tuning Competition. I am hoping this will draw some interest and get more people into the drag racing scene. I plan on something a little different for each comp. I am going to steer away from the standard S Class 5.9 engine drag cars and throw out restrictions that level the field and a ya think a bit more on your builds. I plan to treat this much like the last few tuning comps that I have been involved with, having each entrant submit a tune and a few drivers run them, get the best times and post them. Should be alot of fun and something out of the norm.
For this first comp, we are going for a C Class Drag tune. The restrictions/rules are as follows:
-C Class
-3200lbs MINIMUM
-RWD only
-255 rear tire size, no bigger, no smaller. If 255s aren’t availible to a car, that car is out. Sorry '40 Ford, lol!
-Street tire compound ONLY
-Sport trans ONLY, the one where final gear is all you can change. Race diff, clutch and driveline is your choice
-Stock suspension and ARB’S ONLY. Brakes, cage and weight are your choice, spend PI wisely
-Engine swaps are allowed, NO 5.9 RACING!! Normal aspirated only, no turbos, superchargers or blowers
-Finish build to C500 max, spend PI where you think it will help most, just stay in line with restrictions
I’m working with a few friends to line up some drivers for testing. I plan on maybe 2 or 3 drivers, we each run 5, 3 heat races and get the best ET. 15 runs down the strip for each tune. For now, we will use the Airstrip Test Track 1/4 drag track. I will change that up from comp to comp also.
We will see how well this goes and how much interest it draws. I’d like to make this a monthly comp, different sets of rules each time. Oddball cars and different restrictions each time. I am really hoping to get more people into drag racing and show its more than throwing the 5.9 in a car and flooring it to the finish line.
As you build and tune your cars, keep in mind to test your car you need to go to a private online lobby and choose drag. You can get a good idea on your time with a few runs on the Airstrip Test Track open space. Just watch the timer as you run.
Hopefully there’s some interest in this and this will be the first of many. To start with, I’m thinking 10-15 entries to start with. Probably have this coming Sunday be the entry deadline. Let have some fun!!
QUICK NOTE, as far as drivers, i think I will have 3 maybe 4 if there’s anybody wanting to run them. I will have them be alternates in the comp and leave non drivers be in the main comp. By alternates, I’m meaning they don’t really count regardless of how many people join up. I plan on driving in this first one. If anyone else would like to, just let me know!
