Maxwell’s Speed Shop’s and xDeaDxRaCinGx is hosting what hopes to be a monthly Drag Tuning Competition. Each month will be a new set of rules and restrictions, maybe different tracks. The goal is to have some fun, think outside the box. Not looking for every car running with the 5.9 racing engine with TCS or AWD.
2 banned cars, '49 Mercury and the Pontiac Aztec
That being said, and being my first time starting up a comp, I started with posting on the wrong thread. I am working to resolve this and from this point on, I will be updating and posting to THIS tread.
This Month’s Comp is C Class 1/4 mile on the test track. Restrictions are as follows, and to clear as possible, if a car can’t be upgraded to fit the restrictions, then it is out, period. So here we go,
C Class 500 max
3200 lbs minimum
RWD only! They will be run with TCS off
NORMAL ASPIRATION ONLY!! No turbo/supercharger!!
STOCK SUSPENSION ONLY
STOCK ARB’S ONLY
brakes, cage and weight are your choice, but watch PI
SPORT TRANSMISSION ONLY, final drive adjustable trans
RACE DIFFERENTIAL
Clutch, driveline are again your choice, but check PI
STOCK TIRE COMPOUND, REAR DRIVE TIRE 255 ONLY!!
This means if can’t put a 255 rear tire on the car, can’t use the car. Stock tire compound ONLY (this is a change from the start as we started with street compound)
ABSOLUTELY NO 5.9 RACING ENGINES!!
Engine swaps are allowed as long as it fits within the other restrictions
Again, I will get better at posting all of this as time goes by. I will post entries and results on this thread as needed. Sunday May 8th will be the entry deadline. Hopefully this ends up being a good time and a change of pace from the norm.
Entries so far:
XxDyno DonxX - '73 Holden Monaro
HLR SL4YER
HLR PRKid - Ford Country Squire
PTG W4RLOCK - AMC Rebel
xDeaDxCriMinaLx
HLR Moss - '57 Chevy Bel Air
xDeaDxZeppLiNx - '69 Nova
No problem, will certainly do so with the knowledge I gained on FM5 (major learnings primarily from Reaper Mech)! And, Dyno Don has a ton of knowledge in this space, and I am sure he’ll be helping out as well.
This event is all about the right build on the right car. Tuning won’t play into this one this week as its limited to sport gears and stock suspension.
What I’d look for in a car is starting pi low down in the e class range, probably heavier. The 255 restriction on tires makes it interesting, because a lot of the usual lb cars will be eliminated due to the fact it’s not an option on them… (For ex f100 truck, Vandura, coupe etc.) probably look for a heavier car that u can lighten up to the 3200 lb arena.
With the sport box and street tires don’t be afraid to think outside the box with the gearing. Depending on what your building it may be feasible to adjust final to where u have a 2 speed in the quarter mile. Sometimes it even makes sense to bounce the rev limiter between shifts to get the car in the optimal shift range for the next gear, or even keep it in 2nd even though your excessively tapping the rev limiter at the end of the quarter. Sport boxes and street tires can make for some creative runs lol.
More than likely the Prefferred launching method on this event is going to be drop catch rather than a full throttle launch. Play around with different launches and tell the person that’s running the car the best way to launch it. For example “Hold rpms at 5k and catch at 2k at launch”
Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
Quick update, I have some things going on in the non forza world that’s gonna slow down my forza time, unless I just simply can’t sleep, lol. But i think we may at least push back the time table a lil bit. I’m thinking maybe keep the signing up part open until next weekend? Maybe Sunday evening, then a couple days for getting cars and tunes. It shouldn’t take too long to run them and whatnot. Sorry to post this and get the ball rolling and then slow it all down. If theres anything any of you would like to switch up as far as restrictions, let me know. I’m good with whatever. The goal is to not have a comp with all S Class 5.9 racing engines. I see the slower, lower classes like this are more like real, on the street Saturday night drag racin’, light to light type stuff. At least like all my buddies from back in the day that had the sweet T/A’s and Camaros!! Lol. Anyway, i will update the entries. For this comp, it’ll be easier to leave the main tread where I started it, thank you for the link, XxDyno DonxX! Next one I will post in the right place.
Just gonna throw this out there too, have a few minutes lol, there are some cars that might not fit weight wise. Just under the 3200lbs. Sometimes with an engine swap, AS LONG AS IT ISN’T THE 5.9, such as the 427 or 7.0 if you prefer, can hop up the weight to make it work. With the weight gain you gain a bit more HP but still doesn’t waste alot of PI. Example, '69 Boss 302. Just food for thought.
Also, as these go on, hopefully there will be enough interest in this to keep doing it, I will get a bit better at putting it together. For any future restriction ideas, by all means throw some suggestions my way. Again, looking for things out of the norm so to speak. There is so much more than what most fora guys thing there is involved with setting up drag stuff, not hard things, just more than the Ford racing engine and drag slicks. S class and above is fun an fast, but gets stale after a while. Slower, more “Street” type cars are more fun and interesting. Thank you guys for the support and interest so far. Hope it ends up being as fun as I think it could be!
Looking forward to the weekend!! Hope to get at least a little bit of Forza time in!! Gonna build, and test out some of these drag cars, see what I can do. Looking forward to seeing what you fellas come up with. Still hoping for some more to join up, plenty of time still.
I wanna say I have hit as quick as an 11.5 or so in C class beforw, just can’t remember if that fits in with these restrictions. Looking forward to tomorrow, get some building and driving in!!
I have yet to pick a car, yet, slapped something together very quickly this morning on a car I certainly would not use and was able to hit 12.1…that is 1+ sec away from your run. Not even if I got extra PI would that happen…lol…
.
Thanks! Everybody always hating on the Aztecs though, nobody sees the true genius Pontiac provided in this animal.
I may try to post up some ballpark times from some of the builds I’m trying, I know I threw a Waggoner together quickly that was running 11.7s or 8s, could possibly have some potential with the right build.
