Maxwell's Speed Shop's Drag Racing Test and Tune Lobbies

Considering that there isn’t a “drag racing” sub forum and it’s was suggested that somebody start up a thread for various projects or build questions. I figured I would start it up!

Hopefully this will end up the place to go for tips, tuning help, compare times, all that kinda stuff.

**I’m going to start some lobbies for just testing and tuning, messing around and doing some racing. Certainly not opposed to any Top 10 list stuff but for now I’m looking for more of an open lobby. Like a Thursday night test and tune at a local track.

Some of my favorite times in FH2 were just being in a private freeroam and trying different things out whether it was running circuits or drag racing or whatever. Tons of fun. So bring if there’s anybody interested, leave a message or add me.

OK, let’s talk about that 63 VW Bus trying to crack into the 9.3 (maybe even 9.2) @ Sonoma. As I test various gear configurations I can tell it is VERY sensitive the particular gearing setup. ET’s can swing back into the 9.5’s of 9.6’s.

So, what are folks thought on a good “generic” gear energy distribution across 1 thru 3rd, or 1 thru 4th, for the 1/4-mile?

Id say it should go into the 9.2s

Here’s my gears so far I ran a 9.309 with this

316
195
141
105
I run the fr rebound at 4.3 rear 1
Front bump 12
Rear 11.9

My problem is my own thinking. I don’t have real world experience with full on drag racing. Always had good friends that had some sweet street cars and messed around with those. I’ve done lots of looking into gears, suspensions, basically lots of stuff that don’t seem to translate to forza. I feel like there should be a power glide transmission setup that WORKS in Forza. I haven’t found it yet, lol.

I’ll be on after a while, do some building and testing. I still haven’t figured out what car I’m gonna use for the Sonoma Comp, lol!

Just tried a little adjustment on my Bus, ran a 9.293. If the capture actually recorded it’ll be on my feed.

2.80
2.45
1.55
1.10
.90
.80
.72

3.0/13
13/7.0

Still a little tricky on launch, possibly could be a lil bit quicker with a better start. I think its more suspension than anything else. Still, I happy with a 9.293 for now!

Great job Zepp! I’ll keep working on mine, still not been able to go under 9.34

Nice 1 zepp👍🏻

Alright guys, here the next project/challenge if you choose to give it a shot. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to get a '73 Trans Am to get down the 1/4 and it is a DOG!! I understand it’s a heavy car, but as it stands now, I have it at A700, 840hp, 851lbft, 2961lbs. Initially I was working on it for the Sonoma como, but there’s no way!! Now I just want to break 10 sec with it. If anybody is bored and wants to give it a shot, let me know what ya get!

.
Just curious…did you use the 5.7L w/CSC, or was it another aspiration conversion? Thx! I’ll check it out soon.

Guess that woulda helped, lol.

Stock engine, 455 Big Block
Supercharger

No aero

Drag compound
Front 215/60R17 rear 345/45R15
Weld Alumistar

All race drivetrain

Sport Brakes
Race springs/dampers
Race ARBs front and back
Sport cage
Race weight

Race everything except for the stock oil cooler, (dead weight)

840 hp
851 lbft
2959 lbs

The inaccurate dyno graph shows 0-60 2.581, 0-100 4.967, 211.1 mph

I have tried a bunch of different gearing, right now I am sitting at
5.30 Final
1.75
1.00
.70
.55
.48 for 5th and 6th

Definitely that powerglide type trans set-up I’m looking for, but even the opposite with a 2.45ish final and likewise adjusted gears was slow.

I haven’t tried the 350 yet. I will with a new car. I’m betting the PI keeps it from getting the same kinda power. The Chevelle is the same way with its 454 stock engine. Over 800 hp torque monster that is slow as molasses! Forza physics!!!

Just ran 5 at Sonoma, best was a 10.347. I think I barely hit a 10.2 last night. Still, in my tiny little brain it should be faster. I’ll give the 5.7 a go.

With just a quick build and tune, the 5.7 is 150 lbs lighter with 95 less hp and 145 less lbft. Best I ran on a quick 5 was a 10.377. Might get a second off of that, if I’m lucky, with adjusting gears. It’s a single turbo, race with stock intercooler. The dyno thing said it was slower with the race one. Also PI would keep me from suspension stuff after that.

While I’m writing this, I put stock springs and dampers on the 5.7, then the race intercooler. Dyno thing gave me a couple hundredths. It’s 67 lbs lighter than the stock engine build with 60 less hp and 112 less torque. Still runs about the same times.

Just one of those cars I think.

I think that one is just sloooow… A victim of forza physics

Yeah, I agree. I need to get rich, so I can open a garage and build real cars that go real fast, lol!!

That makes 2 of us Zepp! If you get rich, do not forget about the lonely ones down here.

Yep, tested a couple of builds on that '73 TA and I had to call in my buddies to push it down the strip…lol… We better worn the rest not to use it for the comp…lol…

.

You see me on the news with one of those powerball 400 mill jackpots, these tuning comps are gonna be with real cars!! Man, would that that be sweet?! Ok, wake up Zepp!!

ive blown 12 million on your last 2 comps… Gonna need more than 400 to satisfy your hunger

I suppose that’s true. I haven’t paid attention, but I’m sure I’m right there with ya. Haha. But as long as I’m dreamin’, I’m sure we could make a few million stretch for at least a few crazy angry street machines and race cars!

I figured I’d throw this out there on this thread instead of the comp one. I have 2 cars that I put the 2.0 in. The Datsun 510 and the '86 Civic. Both pushing a lil over 655 hp. I know at one point I had gotten a high 9.6 out of the civic but messed with the gears and can’t find it again. Still a consistant 9.8. The 510 has ran quicker as well but once again, messed with my gears and am running a 9.9 at best. Bow, these times are with clutch. I am trying them later without clutch after what Don was speaking of on the comp thread.

The Honda is a 4 speed at the moment and the 510 a 3 speed. Both are still not dialed in or figured out yet. I know there is more in both cars, just have to be patient and find the right combo. Sonoma is a pain in the butt to tune for!!
