Auction House returns to FH3

So awesome… And not just that it’s back, but more importantly that T10 is listening…

Personally bringing back the auction house just like the unicorn cars in FM6 is more trouble then it is worth for T10, because if you own the game and the cars are not downloaded via DLC or codes then you should be able to access it in FH3 without having to blow all of your hard earn credits on one car.

Plus if you play a range of games it means you can’t put enough hours into the game to earn a rare car. Unlike two types, first is YouTube creators with 1 million subs who do not have to work or have ever experienced a hard days work. And second is the ones who are so good at racing games that it is the only genre they play.

You’ll blow all you’re hard earned credits on super limited edition paint jobs by elite artists. It’s well known these cars will command hundreds of millions if not a billion. What’s the difference? Those are generally more desirable than a silly unicorn.

There’s nothing wrong in making some items difficult to obtain. Many games do this.

Credits take zero skill to earn and T10 handouts greatly help in getting started. It should take a few months to be stupid rich…about the same time it takes to fully complete other games assuming the player jumps around somewhat.

If the economy is anything like it is now, that number will need quite a big increase!

Actually no, this is what you see in many games :

  • Extra game content = DLC = possible to purchase by everyone.
  • Completing all achievements or unlocking badges/avatars/unicorns/cardbacks = completing difficult tasks in a game.

FM6 messes those up badly making extra game content available for completing difficult tasks in the game. For me it’s the only game I know who does that and it’s just really poor game design. Gives an underlying unhappy feeling for a lot of players (the casual players who are the majority of the player base) and only very few happy (those good enough to unlock the unicorn).

I never played the XBox 360 Forza games but the 1977 Aston Martin V8 unicorn nonsense in FM6 will go down in my gaming history books as Turn 10 completely losing my faith in them as good game designers. I do give Playground Studios a fair chance though but they have exactly one chance to not pull the same stunt off and annoy me.

Get better or just accept that they are true unicorns. I don’t get the big deal. Just appreciate them when you see them in the wild. I know I did when they really were impossible to get in FM2. Same goes for the even rarer armors in Halo. Some of which required feats that make forza’s challenges look like a cake walk.

FM6 was already poorly designed and unicorns had nothing to do with it. Unicorn earning is based on T10 community manager personnel. That’s who you’re gripe should be with. The ball was dropped a bit when compared to FM4’s unicorn opportunities. Now should unicorns be built into certain in-game feats (say, max out 30 affinities)…sure! But that design worked in other forzas and it should have worked again. Alas, it didn’t. I’d venture a guess that workload had something to do with it.

I don’t know about you, but I always have to much credits to know what to do with. Bringing back the auction house is something to do with your millions of credits.

I think it’s great! It will be the return of comps held by the community members. And hopefully gives a spark to this community to become lively like it once was.

Hopefully, this will bring back some of the greats.

Hmmmm, I can only imagine a working AH if they actually care about an economy again. The deflation that happend in FM6 made it a bit pointless.
I wonder what changed their minds, they didn’t have the AH in Horizon, then threw it out of Motorsport to now get it into Horizon.

Another point is carlist. There are 350+ cars, which is great, BUT they are now clearly divided into groups, mainly on and offroad, I don’t see much potential in the AH.
Especially if you get cars thrown at you like it was in previous Horizon games.

See T10? I am totally scepticism about this game…you made me beeing it!

But we have no idea of most of the 350 cars plus the dlc that comes day one. From what I seen in the AH from 4 some put great detail into everything. I remember getting a few cars that were pretty much entirely different. Considering they are adding a bunch of new car parts, modifications and then engine swaps theres no telling what people can create if they are getting paid.

to the people that hate unicorn cars:
“oh joy unicorns” Look I will be happy if they come back… Now they are just cars that you have to be involved in the community to get them. now some are really cool but I mean just because they are very hard to get does not mean you will never get one. and also Any car in the full car list can beat a unicorn car. I mean the mini cooper from FH1 … that is not a really fast car. now there was the saleen s7 that was really fast but hey. the other saleen could easly beat it. (or any other in that case)

I don’t care in the slightest. For me it’s about driving.

BUT: I’m glad it’s returned because I know it was sorely missed by the majority of the Forza community, and that means no one else will complain about it on the forums anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know about you guys, but even if I rarely bought anything from the AH, it was always fun to peruse it for a while, seeing all the 999,999,999 CR starting bid Veyrons and 250 GTOs. As if people thought they’d get that much.

Personally I don’t see its return as a bad thing. At all. Maybe this would encourage more tuners and painters to shake the dust off their console (if not move over) and sell their work. Always fun to watch bid wars on limited edition cars put out by the best tuners and painters in the community, them going for credits I used to dream of having. Not to mention big AH blowout sales…

So long as its implemented properly, I only see it as a good thing for the overall community.

Even if you’re not interested in paints and tunes, it was nearly always possible to nab some rather expensive cars for cheap. Still remember picking up some Astons and Daytona Coupes for around 20K CR each.

One thing that I found is that it is actually pretty good for getting some of the cheaper cars in the game stock at the AH. I find that they are sometimes a good 3-5K credits cheaper. It may not sound like much, but it helps in the long run

So, first off, I should probably introduce myself. I used to be known as MOTO on these forums, before I changed my name (same account, no ToS violation). I’ve had this account since 2009, and I’ve been involved in the Forza Community since 2007. The first time I visited the forums was when Froza 2 was in full swing. I like to think of Forza 2 as the golden days of Forza, in general. I’m sure some of you remember, but I would be willing to bet that a lot of you have never touched anything older than Horizon. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, I’m just saying that Forza 2 had this thing called an “Auction House”. What does this mean?

Well, for those who don’t know, or don’t remember; the auction house was what started the Forza Community boom. Tuning Garages, massively talented painters, hyperactivity in both the game and on the forums… good times. Sure, there were Tuning Garages present in Forza 1, but they were no where near their prime. Forza 2 saw a massively engaged community.

My buddy Brad and I have been debating exactly HOW the Auction house will work. See, it used to be, I would create a tune in collaboration with Brad’s paint, we would decide who would sell the work and that individual would then get a car with both tune and paint on it. That individual (or individuals) would then re-produce this car and place it on the auction house for sale. They could do this because of gifting and the ability to leave files unlocked. This system wasn’t without it’s flaws, but it worked for us cavemen of the time.

The release of Forza 3 introduced storefronts, which changed the game somewhat. Instead of selling whole cars, we sold the files, and the files were automatically locked. Not a bad system, however, it wasn’t as personal as the Auction House had been. With Auction House sales, if a promotion was over, the consumer would have to contact someone directly to get a certain car that they wanted. I met a large number of folks from the community because of this. I missed this in Forza 3.

Forza 4 was similar to Forza 3 in this aspect. I feel that 4 was better than 3, but there was still very little direct contact with community members.

Anyway, to get to the big questions of the return of the Auction House… Will file gifting be a tool available to us? What about locking options? Will there be restrictions on pricing/ how many units can be sold at once? Will the introduction of cross platform leave us vulnerable to file unlock hacks?

With this and the blueprint feature i’m hoping to get the CRS going again. Helping people out when the cloud nukes their saves, running comps with weird and wacky goals. All the fun stuff that helps build community, cos they have obviously noticed it’s dying on it’s a***. Hopefully this means it will be in Motorsport titles too, but we’ll have to wait and see on that one.
Horizon has taken the lead in this franchise. In a way it’s sad to see, as Turn 10 are the original team, but they’ve lost direction. Playground with Horizon have been innovating right from the start, day/night, weather, bringing back the AH and SF, HDR for the One S. Playground are the innovators and Turn 10 seem to just be tagging along at this point making sequels with a few additions but no real headline innovations. Hopefully the franchise is turning a corner and both teams will start pulling some awesome stuff out of their racing caps.

CRS would be very cool to have back!

Oddly enough, the addition of the Auction House leaves me rather cold, and I was pretty much addicted to the AH in FM4. I might end up using it, but it doesn’t really excite me as much as some of the other aspects of the game, particularly with regards to location. Glad to see the storefront back, though.

Meh to the AH returning. I also had crap memories of it. People will find a way to abuse it. Happens every time. I’m more excited about the Groove Music feature than the AH. But the storefront coming back is a good thing. Painters need to be rewarded for their creations.
