Some other things are also included in this “review”, Skip to the bottom for the auction house part
Being a forza fan since fm3 i was very excited for this game. The cars, bodykits (finally), and the return of the auction house. Since cars are one of my passions i was looking forward to the car list in the game. Most of the cars are great and diverse but most of the ones you really want are dlc, but thats what ive come to expect from this franchise. They care about the money not their fans. There are also cars i think should be added but only time will tell.
On the bodykits i think they get 4 out of 5 stars. They have finally added them to their game and its a feature i am very happy about. The only problem i see is that there are many more that could be added. This is not a major issue at all and if it stayed the way it is now ill still be happy.
Finally, the biggest dissapointment/problem/pathetic part of this game, the auction house. Everyone is excited to see this return and so was i. The UI is great and i like the new areas they added like the ‘hot deals’ and ‘featured auctions’ sections. But the problems far outweigh the few things they did right with the auction house. instead of having it like the good old FM4 days they made it like some communist dictator would.
The Problems:
The mins and max bidding and buyout limits - I can sort of understand a bidding minimum but the max price amounts is extremely stupid. Whats the point of this feature? If someone builds, tunes, and paints a car that looks and performs amazingly they should have the right to sell it for what they want whether its $5000 or $5000000.
The bid incriments - can these be altered/lowered to smaller amounts? Bid increases of $10000 on some auctions are not needed
Selling limits - REALLY? I can only sell ‘x’ amount of cars in a certain period? A period and car number that is not given and kept secret from the players. Probably the stupidest feature in the entire game. If i want to spend the whole day buying and selling i should be able to.
Buying limits? - i have not experienced this yet but i have seen people talking about it. If this is a thing, which it probably is, it also falls under the stupid waste of time features they added to the game. They could have spent that time making the game much better.
Designs and tunes - if a person works hard on a design or tune they should be able to set a price for them, not recieve $1000 every time a design is downloaded because im sure they put more than $1000 of effort into making it
Does the game take a percentage of the money you get from selling a car on the auction house? I will check for this next time i sell a car but i have seen some posts about this. If its true id really like to ask why this was even considered? Is this ebay? Are we winning real money? No & no. There is no need for this because the developers have no use for this money. The money is taken from your sale and deleted for no reason, money you should be getting.
I really hope some major improvements are made to this game asap but knowing this studio, they wont. Please share/spread this so maybe if enough people dislike these features they will do something about it if they really care about the community.
Please leave some comments, id like to see what everyone thinks about this topic.
You don’t have full control over minimum starting bid and maximum buyout, you can’t collect your credits until an auction is completely over, and you can sell cars with other players paints and tunes on them. This has essentially made the auction a used cars lot just for getting cars cheaper and well painted cars really have no extra value whatsoever anymore.
I haven’t searched previous topics so not sure what’s been said already about the auctions but…
They don’t even work like an auction!??
If you bid and don’t win a car, how can you possibly lose your initial bid? It’s stupid . Iv won a few decent cars at bargain prices however I have also lost nearly my full balance due to this stupid way of it working.
And I’m sure there’s no exact time until one finished when it just says “ending soon”. The chances of actually winning a car is so slim it’s frustrating.
Am I wrong? Do people like it? I think it’s a good idea but isn’t efficient in terms of credits etc
My biggest problem so far was that most auctions just end when I click on them…and then by the time I get back to the list I need to scroll a lot to find an auction that is still active…
Another thing, but that could be at the beginning is that there is a big demand on rare cars and no one actually looks at the “normal” cars.
But this could also be, because no one needs to look at them. You get plenty of cars given in the game and with all the exploits and farming going on the economy is already broken.
In FM4 / FM3 the cars were quite expensive and fredits were not so easy to obtain, plus you were not given a lot of cars in game. So the AH was a great place to get cars and sell cars. It was like a game within the game.
What PG tried to do was to recreate that and combine it with the way FH2 and FM6 worked…and that doesn’t if you ask me. So out of the 350ish cars only 30 or so are actually tradeble.
Other cars just won’t sell as no one even looks at them.
(srry for my bad english,i’m brasilian) The Selling Limits is important, people on forza horizon, gift cars to a friend use a backup and send more cars then the friend who has the cars gift to you again then you sell this “backup cheat” will result in a permanent ban
I mostly agree. It’s nice to have an auction house, but it seems very poorly inplemented.
Even putting aside server issues (Bid Failed Bid Failed Bid Failed), there are several issues that seem to weigh it down.
One that bugs me in particular is not knowing when an auction will end. Most say “Ends in 1 Minute,” but these must be the longest minutes ever. Most go on for at least Five minutes, switching back and forth between “Ends in 1 minute” and “Ending soon.” It would be nice to have an actual countdown timer until auction end. I saw someone above state that it might be an anti-snipe method, but sniping is just part of online bidding. Same as on EBay, it happens.
Also, as I stated in another thread, it’d be nice if we, as a bidder, could put a maximum bid in, again similar to the system on EBay. That way, if an auction is starting at, say, 100k, I could bid 100k and enter a max bid amount of 500k and it would auto bid in my place when I’m outbid, up to 500k.
An “Auto-Bid” feature would be great. As it stands now, I check the price of a car that I want at the Auto Show and then go to the Auction House, search for that exact car, and basically stay there until I win the auction or the price exceeds the Auto Show price.
With the money I save doing that, I bid on auction cars that have no bids and are ending soon. This gets me some really inexpensive cars to experiment with, builds my garage count, and helps people get rid of their duplicates or cars they’ll never drive. I found a bunch of sweet B and C class cars that way.
Anyway, an “auto-bid” feature would be nice.
Also, auctions that are already over should automatically disappear from the listings. It would make browsing the “Hot Deals” list a lot easier.
And returning funds from lost auctions should be automatic, with maybe a reminder in “Auction Alerts.”
Quixy i def see what ur saying. Those bid failed messages are so annoying. Part of the prob seems to be that the game cant handle 2 people putting in a bid within a few seconds of eachother and ur def right about those hour long final minutes, glad its not just me. An auto bid feature seems interesting as well.
Also the update today added another stupid feature; decreasing the amout of xp you get from skill-chains. Smh at these idiots, i think they just want to ruin the game and they’re on track to do so. Included in that area is the limit of 3 skill points no matter how big ur skill chain is. That one is totally just them being a-holes because all you have to do is stop the chain pnce you get enough xp for 3 points and then just start it over again. Its totally pointless and just makes it harder for the user.
In the previous Forza games, you could sell any car at any starting bid with any buyout price, and you even had the option to not have a buyout option at all. One of my favorite things about the auction house in previous games is just seeing what crazy things people were selling for some prices, whether it’s a ridiculously overpriced Fiat or an exotic car that costs nothing, but now, we don’t see any of that at all. Additionally, you could get your credits back in the middle of an auction, but now you have to wait until the auction ends to get your credits back, and that’s, in my opinion, the most annoying thing about the game.
I also miss those opportunities… At least a few more normal cars are now also constantly sold, so the thing kinda makes fun now.
One thing I noticed yet the other day is that pressing Y gives you the bidding options without entering the single auction. Seeing that made a lot things way easier.
But I now use the AH as a one bid thing. Cars that I don’t have and turn up at cheap prices with no bids get a bid from myself, and quite a few slipped through. I wonder how this develops over the next few weeks.
Another thing that is kind of bad/not thought through is the absolute deprivation of the bonus cars. They are actually worth nothing as everyone got them at the start of the game. And there were quite a few of them…but I also dislike that on FM4 with the level up cars. Same story, worth nothing…
I personally think the AH is broken as hell. I fully understand the whole supply/demand concept, but players are gouging the HE edition cars for no reason. Especially now that they don’t serve a single purpose online. Secondly, I shouldn’t have to go back to a particular auction if I didn’t win to collect whatever funds I bid. That’s just straight stupid, and everyone here knows that. If I don’t want to play the game for 6 hours waiting on an auction to end, I shouldn’t have to micro manage it. I should be able to simply put in my max bid (in which I cannot, another source of frustration), and walk away. The AH may be a decent concept, especially before hand when HE cars meant something in online; however, it’s just simply broken right now. I also feel that if I don’t want to sell a car in an AH, I should just be able to have the option to sell it from my garage. Such a dumb decision in my opinion…
i dont think the AH is that broken. ‘‘bid failed’’ are just a way of saying you are to late. if you wait a couple of Seconds you will se a change of a New highest bidder(ore a boyout, then you lost) and when the New highest bidder comes up you need to be really fast if its a popular car to put in a New bid. if you do this right away you will have the next highest bid(ore buyot) if you are slow and its a popular car you will just get the same bid failed Message. seems about right and fair to me.
about the cash beeing stuck in that bid to the bidding is over seems about right to me as well. because thats just makes it fair to everyone. some have allot more credits than others. and thats mean they cant bid on everything and out bid everyone. seems fair for everyone instead of it beeing fair for only those who grind up much credits ingame.
just my opinion.
Also being able to say up front how much you want to bid would be great, so if there’s a car I really want I can just say “Okay, I want to bid 500k, I’m serious about this”, as opposed to how it is now where I have to sit around for an hour slowly upping the bid each time I inevitably get outbid on the low starting price.
Credit where it’s due though, the Auction House does fundamentally work. As mentioned in other threads there’s a serious issue with locked designs being auctioned by other users and I agree with most of the points in the OP, especially about the limits on max sell value. But the Auction House definitely does the job and can be refined more as time goes on.
In past posts I was pretty unabated in my shared opinion of the game mechanics2…
But to sum it up, the reason I did like the the old system in the previous XB360 FM/H1 games, was that it taught Kids the value of money… I recommended the games and console to all the friends… what a better FUN way to teach kids to handle and try and make money. I was late to the ONE and FM5/6 but a few of the family had made them their first console buys along with the Forza Games I mentioned as being good to start that “teach them but don’t teach them” kinda thing. As games are so much a part of any kids growing experience and by simple implication their learning process… they have a responsibility to subtly follow the social norms and values…
I can see why they might have thought the system might work, by leveling the money made from a tune/design/layer group, a designer will rise or fall by the quality of the work. Nothing urk’d me more in the other games than seeing an obviously great job being up, then some shmo comes along and does a piece of hooey and gets 50k for it. Conversely a great job could be 50k and a hooey design will be free and out do the great job. So in one light, the new method DOES work, because a good design will rise to 5 stars and the designer will of course make more…
The change I would make to the current system would be:
The Pay Outs should get better for a designer as a design goes from 1 to 5 stars, then a bonus added for reaching the various player status’s.
the H2 payout notifications gave no clue what you’ve actually made and the “congrats, get your designs out there to make more money” really gave Ya no clue what you were making. I rarely
honestly though considering the game is only in the spot light for 2 years, I don’t know why they bothered with the routine to begin with lol people are going to play the game regardless of the money they make in designs
