As title really, due to the state of the game in some areas and what only seems like monthly updates/fixes worries me.
forza motorsport a circuit racer is a much more niche market and after seeing another franchise and game i love being gears of war/gears5 that game had a similar start, gears 5 stopped getting updates and basically given up on pretty quickly, I’m worried forza motorsport is going the same route.
I and unfortunately many other player’s are disappointed in the game and I’m not saying people don’t enjoy the game because some do.
As a long time fan (original motorsport) I really don’t like the direction the motorsport series is heading, its like there is no passion for cars and racing left in turn 10.
A lot of us are worried about the game’s future. The bugs will be fixed in time and they’ll fill in the missing content, but can they do that before the player numbers are looking like Redfall? They need to be doing a lot more in their monthly updates. Getting all the game breaking bugs ironed out, and releasing more content than the standard live service drip feed.
My biggest fear is they just drop the game after the obligatory year or so – they can’t justify supporting a game with 500 active players after all.
Maybe this game will rock in the future or it will vanish. Until then I’d like to get my money back to spend anywhere else.
I would rather see my money in the hands of Nigerian internet fraudsters instead of T10/MS
The question is: What is the direction? Is there any direction?
At which customer group is FM aiming?
hardcore online Simracers? clearly not iRacing is another cup of tea
casual Simracers? Not realy coz basic sim functionallity is missing like ACC, AMS2, AC, rF2 etc. have
SimCade racers? FM doesn’t have a tenth of that functionality games like GT7 and F1 23 have.
Arcade racers? They stick with FH4, FH5, multiple NFS games, TC2, TDU etc. there are to many and FM doesn’t have any Arcade functionality
so whats left?
maybe aiming up casual Gamepass players? But they are mostly not into racing games.
downloading a game play it 3 hours and then delete it is gamepass behavior…
Not to mention that Arcade and Simcade games getting better physics from release to release so the unique selling point of Forza is melting away over time.
I don’t get FM’s direction.
Releasing FM bevor XMas as argument for parents who want to buy a console-game-bundle for the kids without knowing anything about racinggames?
IMHO FM has no direction other than MS wants a racing game for the XBox,
but T10 failed to deliver a unique selling point.
Only 4700 people downloaded FM at the releaseday on steam…
FM should be a DLC for FH5, that would make sense to me.
Adding tracks, cars and drift to the game will not be enough FM will fail if there isn’t more to come.
I’m getting CD Projekt Red vibes after the Cyberpunk release fiasco. If Forza wasn’t tied to Microsoft I’d worry more, because Microsoft can afford to keep losing money on its pet projects
The direction is obvious. A next gen simcade. A game with physics that are very believable but still a lot of fun. A game for people who actually like to drive cars and enjoy the physics. No matter if the car is stock, mildly upgraded or it is a frankenstein car.
A game with really engaging short races with a lot of strategy thanks to the quick wearing of tyres.
The main flaws of the game has nothing to do with its focus. The game was released half cooked.
T10 know exactly what they want. It is the old fanbase who are confused, but the sales of FM have gone downhill since FM5 anyway.
Because the game was half cooked and legacy FM fans are not happy, FM23 has a serious marketing problem. But hopefully it will supported by the XBOX team.
The game will have to at least be serviced until they fulfill their obligations of the premium editions. Which i just believe is the car pass. So service could be dead as early as sometime next year. Hopefully thats not the case. Hopefully they make a full no mans sky style turnaround. But just a reminder that game took about a year before it was in a good state and another 2 years after that before it was in a great state
I know it’s always been Forza’s thing (chaos) but I think they need to decide which market to pursue because it feels like it’s in this very strange place where both parties are not happy. The casuals and the more hardcore racers. I don’t really understand why they wouldn’t market Horizon to the casual/arcade racers and then Motorsport push more towards sim racing.
The biggest problem in the racing itself is the people playing the game. You’ve got kids on the game that genuinely enjoy the contact sport, that is Forza after all. Then you have people that actually want to race only to get frustrated when it’s nearly impossible. Without drawing a clear line and marketing each game to it’s proper demographic people will fall back to more serious sims or games like Crew and Horizon for the arcade gamers.
Just my opinion but yea there are so many racing games available now days it’s too easy to find one that fits the bill of what people are actually looking for.
I feel like COD has already reached it’s peak years ago and has been on a steady decline (much like Forza) since. But people still buy every new release sight unseen hoping it will scratch that itch. The gamepass model is such a shame… I want games with depth and replay value. Gamepass is not that, never will be. They just want you on the service sampling various demos of what should have been full games.
Seeing how MS is trying to monopolize the gaming industry by bullying their way in to some of the best AAA studios with an endless amount of money at their disposal, then destroying what made those studios so popular to begin with, really makes you wonder what the end goal is… they have to see what they are doing is not what the consumers are looking for? I really don’t know.
I asked in the suggestions forums to have some multiplayer games without driving line and then some user had nothing better to do that to try to refute it. And I had to defend it!
I don’t want to disrespect players but some think the game has to be made just to fit their needs and nothing else is good. I don’t think the traditional Forza player is very open minded, I just hope T10 just do what they think is good.
I don’t know if it was you but I read a thread where someone was recommending a hardcore game mode with no driving line, assists, limited HUD (?)… I think it’s a great idea.
I ran one last race yesterday before the X class popped up, at Le Mans… I guess the new meta is to build a full power car and then use full assists. I got knocked off the track by at least 5 drivers that were very obviously using the AI assists… what is the point of that? I get wanting to allow everyone to play but seriously? A blind, deaf, mute probably has no interest in playing a racing game… and even if so should we really allow the rest of the community to just deal with people that exploit these tools? The woke, all inclusiveness is a great movement but it has it’s place imo.
I took a look at gamepass titles a few days ago, and was underwhelmed with what they are offering. I already have the older games that are good, and the new games they offer access to, are either horrible or meh
I moved to PC gaming a few years ago after being on consoles since the og Nintendo because of that exact reason. It’s better but the same gaming/pay structure is slowly leaking into the PC world too. Early access everything but charging full release prices, games that get abandoned before they even get to release, releases plagued with bugs, etc.
I’ve been back and forth in my gaming career currently I’m doing the console thing for gaming. If i go back to PC for that, it’s going to be to spend serious dough on a racing rig and I’m not sure i want to spend all that cash, when there are better things to spend it on.
It is expensive, I think I’ve got close to $3k wrapped up into mine and it’s using very basic peripherals. It’s a ton of money for sure. And then the iRacing subscription, track and car dls, its never ending!
I know. One of the criticism of turning the driving line of is that that without line… you had to spend time, brace yourself… learning the track. What a waste of time lol. driving the car, on a track to actually get better lol.
In the end it is about driving to win vs driving to get better. This is where FM23 has a sort of clash between the two kinds of players. Some cant even conceive the idea to drive a stock car in order to upgrade it.
They want to get a car, fully upgrade it, get a tune for whoever, and follow the rainbow line, be lucky with the collisions so they finish in first place.
There is nothing wrong with that. But it is absolutely nothing to do with Motorsport.
Forza Motorsport needs motorsport players.
Not that long ago I heard in a sim racing podcast someone saying “man, sometimes I just want to casually drive and have some fun”. I think that is the sort of people that FM23 needs. I think Forza should be advertised in iRacing.
