Avanti, I was kind of confused by what you were saying, not sure why, but it dawned on me that you added a turbo to those U2 type cars. I think I’ll build up my Alfa to your specs. That seems interesting. However, I still would be interested if we could do them normally aspirated, if there was a way the build would match up. Couldn’t you use the 7/1 with U2’s w/o a turbo?
Count of CV, you might have the same thing that happened to me. When I went to register my xbox on the computer, it automatically gave me an “account”. But I already had started playing the game in the xbox and had an “account” or “profile” set up in there. So… I have a different name in the game also.
Also, you definitely got to witness some of the glory years of racing. I’ve only experience 2 road course races in real life. I’m not too far from Road America and I saw an AMA motorcycle race and an SCCA race. Both of them back in about 1999. They were neat, but I’m sure nothing like what you experienced. Some day I’ll get up there to see another race. My son is not quite the gearhead I am, so it’s not something he’s super interested in. Although if he went to a race he might change his mind. I don’t know.
@Deeps…I’d love to see the Javelin done up!! Is there a “Sunoco Blue” Camaro scheme out there? I guess the vinyl top ruins some that look, but it’d be cool to see it!
@GroovierWolf…is the three added on to make your gamer tag? Anyhow, Road America is one of my favorite tracks (for real, and in the game)…I bet if you took your son to the upcoming IMSA race he’d enjoy it. They allow/encourage fans to be in the garage area(s) where you can interact with the teams. When they start the engines right next to ya…wow, it’s awesome! The whole “new” GT classes encompass all kinds of makes, and sizes, so you’re bound to find something that gets ya! Racing is one of those sports where it can be a family thing, and definitely passed from Father-to-son. There are millions of stories from fans along those lines…“what got you into racing?..Ahhh my dad was into it, so we went, watched on TV, etc…THAT’s why I like the old (fill in the blank) cars b/c that’s what I watched as a kid”… Not all kids are gonna get into it, and that’s ok too, but ya never know until ya try it! My father was a Sprint Car racer, and racing/cars enthusiast, so it became part of our family’s life…even my sister today drives down to Vegas (where I live) and Phoenix with her trailer, and we park on the infield at NASCAR races…so ya never know where it might lead. I never raced (I wish I would’ve now!) but here I am on FM4 racin on tracks around the world!! LOL…
Lookin forward to interacting with this new thread of people and Trans Am’n it! Cheers, the Count
Yes GroovierWolf, I can build the U2 class (I keep them at 10:1) without a turbo. When I do I nix the BMW 2002 platform because it has a turbo which cannot be removed. Just like the O2 class has cars with engines far eclipsing 5L, I gave the U2 class a turbocharger because Forza is what it is. Without altering the game’s code (some people have), we’re stuck with how the game is presented to us. This is the root of my desire for Turn 10 to model base cars and let us build them up. When we’re given top packages for each make and model we can’t recreate lower packages.
Count of CV
A) Check the game’s storefront for liveries. Hone your search by platforms you’d find in Trans-Am (Javelin, Cougar, Firebird, Barracuda, etc.) and you’ll find some good recreations. Or
B) Wait a bit and I’ll post photos of the T/A liveries I have.
Isn’t it amazing how these games have progressed to? Yes, lots of fun on courses around the world. And I’ve done a lot of hot laps on Road America because it’s my “home” track. LOL. I do quite a few on Road Atlanta also, because my wife is from Alabama and we actually went to Road Atlanta on our honeymoon. There was no race, but we just browsed around. Should’ve stayed at that Chateau he has set up there, but we were broke at the time and nobody paid our way. So… We went to Stone Mountain too. And we hit the Corvette Museum. My wife was really nice to allow us to do that on our honeymoon. I’ve done quite a bit of clothes shopping with her over the years to hopefully reciprocate. hehehehe
I hear you on the don’t know until you try thing. I think he’d have a blast. It does sound like fun. I’m a little sensitive to chemical smells now though. That sucks.
Hey Avanti, I built up an Alfa to the specs that you have, except I didn’t know the size of the tires. They are only two sizes bigger than stock but you can go a lot wider than that. I think it’s like 185. It was still in B class and I did a race at De Montserrat or whatever it’s called in Spain. The long course. And I placed 10% on the leaderboards. I was like “no way”. That was the highest leaderboard status I’ve had thus far.
OK, I hear ya. But I’m a bit confused. If you’re doing 10/1 with or without a turbo, why does it matter if it has one or not? Does it make the Beamer perform that much better than cars w/o a turbo?
I’m totally with you on the base model thing. I would love to have a newer model mustang with a V-6. Or yeah, there would be a lot more choices if given a base model of a car. I suppose it would make the game that much more complex and a lot of the cars they are using are performance oriented to begin with because it’s a race game. Most people could probably care less about a vanilla car.
A turbocharged car in a series where the rest of the cars are non-turbocharged is an advantage. I base the ratio solely on the peak number but that’s not what I’m worried about here. I’m worried about what’s known as “the area under the curve.” Pressurized engines build power more rapidly throughout the rev. range.
The #8 Firebird, #67 Camaro, and #13 Camaro I painted using two-tones of blue (two different tones for each car) as the base coat. Everything not blue is a vinyl placed on top; where you see blue is paint. Not shown though I also painted this #7 Camaro the same way. It is painted two tones of green with vinyls on top of it.
The Chaparral Camaro is #13 in my collection because I had somebody in season one who wanted to race that car with that number. I like being able to change the car numbers because then somebody can race as Mark Donohue’s Javelin and someone else can race as Mark Donhue’s Camaro (for example) and they both don’t have to be #6.
Go to http://www.historictransam.com/Cars.html and read through the captions about the cars. I like the one about Posey’s Challenger’s roof (hacking a stock roof off a showroom car in Monterey) and the one about the Alan Green Camaro (just who sent that cross-ram intake manifold? grin).
OK, gotcha on the turbo. Makes sense. I’ll leave it on the alfa.
I gotta learn how to post pics. Is it a big deal to you if my paint scheme is not a “replica” of one of these cars? I have been working on mine and the decals I put on it are a tribute to the first car I bought. I bought a 75 Camaro for 500 bucks. It was actually my second car, but the first one that drove “legally”. Before I had my license I had a Dodge 330 push button. But I sold it before I was 16 and had my license. It needed more work than I could afford to make it work well.
So my paint scheme and decals are tributes to things of my past that I might have done and such. Once I get up and running with Gold I can post it on here so you can see it. It’s not as good as yours, but like I said, sentimental to me.
And wow, those cars you got are beautiful. Isn’t that firebird the one Deeps Again painted??
Very nice liveries Avanti!! I love the Javelin! I love those old “Thruster” rims… And the idea of changing decals/numbers is a good one! Are there tunes to go with 'em?
Ah I have to apologize to you Count & Avanti I should have directed you to his paints. I just starting doing these Trans am paints and I guess I’m a little to eager to do a paint for someone , my bad.
If you guys have Amazon Prime for streaming videos, there are some good ones I’ve watched lately. There was one called “GT40” and it was all about the GT40. And then I started watching one called “The Racing Scene” last night and it is about James Garner and his racing team. At first it showed him racing a Bronco in a Baja race in CA. And then it went to Daytona where his team is racing some Lola’s with, I think, Ford engines in them. But there was a lot of shots with other T/A cars on the track with them. Great footage. I paused it to go to bed but the next race is going to be Sebring. I’m not sure which year it is exactly, but it is somewhere right around 1970 or so.
It’s so much easier now a days to drum up videos about this. You go on youtube and can find all kinds of things.
My club doing a little T/A racing at Sears Point. I’m in the Titus Firebird coming up through the pack.
My Dan Gurney Cougar coming down through the Corkscrew.
My Dr. Dick Thompson Mustang in the esses at Road Atlanta
My Ron Woods Racing Javelin in the Corkscrew.
Little bit better view of my Titus Firebird.
I’ve got a few more, just don’t have the pics on my storefront right now. If you look for Cheeto23, he has a really nice Sunoco Camaro paint on his storefront.
Nice shots Racerfink!!! I’m blown away by the realism!!! Are those shots from Forza 5??? They seem so clear.
Hey, I’m throwing all these hooks into the waters to race and I’m not yet hooked up with Gold. But I’ll probably do that this weekend. But is it possible to be part of your club also? And if so, what are the specs you like to see on your cars? I would love to build up one to have to race with you guys. Obviously if your club is racing in 5, I only have 4. So… But I do think you have something about the tires. Because that’s what I was thinking. (talking about a previous post I think it was you mentioned). I doubt the best tires back then were nearly as good as now. But I could be wrong. Plus I think I recall seeing a lot more pics of guys sliding through corners in the 60’s. Whereas it seems like if they’re sliding now, they’re on the edge of doing something wrong. I think.
And another thing, I saw white interiors on the pics Avanti posted. HOW???
Mine are definitely from FM4. I play around with the settings mode for the camera to get the shot like that. If you use the stock settings, it’s okay for static shots, but not for action shots.
Historic liveries are fairly easy because for many series the car’s paint job is nothing fancy. It wasn’t like today where cars have elaborate paint schemes under sponsor stickers. Back in those days:
You’d buy a factory car in a color of your choosing.
You’d remove all unneeded factory parts.
You’d buy performance parts.
Those performance parts would have their manufacturer stickers in the box.
If the part went on the car, the sticker also went on the car.
If you look on the storefront you’ll find historic logos and I’ll let you in on my secret, I’ve used other people’s historic logos (I can get you their names if you want). The base paints are all my work because like I said earlier, I like being able to change a car’s number for my series.
Both of the Firebirds displayed low on page two were ‘aesthetically assembled’ by me. Once you have the period correct sponsor stickers it’s only a matter of looking at historic photos and correctly placing the sticker on the Forza car, which is why numerous people can create similar appearing cars.
White interiors: That’s how Turn 10 rendered it, we can’t change interior colors. The easiest example to see is the 1969 Camaro SS which is a unicorn car.
If I get a completely filled lobby for a Trans-Am season two I won’t care if you have a replica livery. I only had ten racers at peak for season one so it was easy for people to select differing historic liveries.
Racerfink, nice shots!
After I attend the Tudor Championships (United Sportscar Racing) at Laguna Seca May 2-4 I will be doing my darnedest to attend the historic races at Sonoma (Sears Point) Raceway on May 17-18. The historics return to Laguna Seca August 14-17 and I should be able to make those. Gas and ticket prices limit my ambitions though I photograph every event I attend.
Where are you Avanti? I’m in Vegas, and would like to attend a Historic. Never been to Laguna, but I’ have been to Sonoma, and I’ll be there for NASCAR in June. Do you get cool cars (big name) at the Historics? Maybe we could hook up and share gas…
I am in the south S.F. bay area, more specifically San Jose.
There are some incredibly awesome cars that race in the historic events. Usually you can put race in quotes, because the people who own the cars don’t want them to get scrunched, so the race looks like a colorful snake of cars winding around a track. Accident is defined, “an unexpected and undesirable event” and sometimes accidents happen.

Racerfink is correct; the event at Monterey is ginormous. It happens in August every year and draws people from all over. If I were in the cough cough digital recreation job market ahem I would definitely be hanging out at these events, rubbing elbows with the people who own these cars so I could collect data from them / wire model their car / record their car / etc.
