Hello, new here just have a few questions and comments.

I’m an old man (42) and was a gearhead growing up. I don’t really get into real cars now as they’re so expensive but when I was boy and in my teens I just loved loved loved cars. Anyways…

I’ve always been a fan of road racing. I’ve been to a few races at Elkhart Lake as I’m about an hour and a half away from there.

One thing that I find difficult is that it’s hard to find good American cars that are good for road courses. I think even in real life that might be somewhat true. Seems like the european designs or even japanese are more geared towards handling well. So… But yet I wish there was that special car that was American that did well on the road courses. At present my favorite car is the Alfa GTA. In the game it really struck me as a good one to drive.

Anybody have an American car that handles well in the mid classes? Like C, D or E? I bought the Cobalt SS and I think that one might fit the bill, but I’m not quite ready for those speeds (B class) I don’t think. It seems to understeer more than I could handle. Probably not just the car but me taking corners too fast.

I would love love love the Cosworth Vega. 1975 or so. But it might not be all that good. I like the smaller more nimble, agile set ups. The muscle cars are very hard t handle. I have two ford’s that are right hand drive, but it bugs me. However, they seem to handle well. What are they the Cosworth and the Sierra? I forget the names of them.

Welcome to the community, there are a few of us older than you so don’t worry bout your age
also there is a vast source of info and help here. Enjoy

I shouldn’t have assumed that everyone is younger that plays xbox. hehehehe

What’s your favorite class and car to race in the game?

Welcome to Forza and the Forza Motorsport Forums. There are plenty of us “older” guys playing Forza. I am 55 and have been playing since Forza 2. There are also several of the American Muscle cars that can be built and tuned to do well on the circuit racing tracks. Do a search in the storefront for some of the cars that you like and pick tunes that are most downloaded and highest rated.

And there are younger people, too. A couple years ago, we had twin seven-year-old girls playing FM3 (maybe FM2), I believe. The game is rated E for Everyone, and “children” do play. The girls were quite good at designing neat liveries. Talent has nothing to do with age.

All of the camaros are great. The stick to the road like they’re superglued the 1995 IROC Z is a stunner. The motors weak but you can swap the newer motor in.

The Pontiac fierro is a good runner too with the v6 for lower classes.

If you want some tuning help give me a shout.

A lot older.

I was hoping Forza 4 would come out with the Model T I drove to the high school prom in, but no luck so far.

I went to my Prom in a 1974 Malibu wagon that was souped up. It had a 350 with an Edelbrock torker manifold, too big of a carb (750 cfm holley), Hedmann headers, Engle cam and special lifters (at least according to the guy who sold it to me. I never looked). hehehe And a 350 auto with a b&m shift kit. It would chirp the tires in all 3 gears. Probably because it was so heavy and the tires weren’t that great. LOL. It was quite the beast though and fun. That was probably the “best” hot rod I ever had. Albeit HUGE. I did have a 75 Camaro too, but it was stock and I didn’t have it a long time. It was on it’s last leg. Bought it for $ 500 in 1990. I really liked that car though.

I digress… You had me getting all nostalgic there talking about Prom. I didn’t have a date. Took another gearhead friend with me and we were burning rubber all over town. I feel kind of stupid about it now though. So immature I was. hehehhe

I saw in the game that the IROC has good handling numbers, well, higher than a lot of the muscle cars, and I might have to try that one. Or the Late 80’s Mustang had pretty good ratings. I was kind of wanting smaller engine better handling. I’m tempted by the GMC truck or the Grand National T Type. But none of them are really what I’m looking for. I tuned my 70 Chevelle 454 SS for a race in the world tour. It was at Silverstone for 70’s Chevy’s and I tuned the suspension for the race to get it competitive. It was for C class and it wasn’t a a C stock. I have a 69 Camaro too but I drove it stock and it was kind of all over the place. Too much power and too little handling for me. But maybe some tuning would make it good.

Another interesting car I won in the world tour is the Ferrari 365 GTB or whatever it is. But when I was racing it at Maple Valley it felt all wobbly on the straights. You would think it would handle better seeins how it’s a Ferrari. But I think that IROC has handling numbers that are as good.

I guess it all comes down to tweaking any car you like, to a certain extent. Although obviously some slower cars would never be competitive in the higher classes no matter how much you tune them. I’m guessing. Like the spark isn’t going to win any C or B classes is it? I doubt you could even tweak it that high, eh?

Anyways… I’m rambling. I’m just excited about something for a change. LOL. Who would’ve thought an xbox game would be so fun. At least for now.

Hi, Welcome to the forums. I have three cars you might like to try. I have an F Class Pinto which is a grip tune. It’s really only any good around the small tracks but it’s really easy to drive and good fun. The other one is an E Class 53 Corvette, it’s a good lobby car and easy to drive with plenty of grip. I use it a lot online and have a lot of success with it, it’s especially good around Maple Valley, and Infineon, but works more or less everywhere. The third one is an A Class 2010 Camaro SS, again it’s a lobby tune, it handles nicely and has plenty of grip. They are all on my storefront for free if you want to try them. Just search my gamertag. Hope these help for now, and I’ll have a look and see if I have anything else that might be of interest. Good luck and enjoy Forza.

Berzerker.

Wow, that is very kind of you!! May I ask what is specifically meant when you say a “lobby tune”?

How in the world did you get a pinto?

I’m still lusting after a cosworth Vega. hehehehe

Hi, A lobby tune is a car that is set up to run at multiple tracks rather than being track specific, but will be competitive against leaderboard cars. Lobby cars tend to be something different and usually more interesting than a leaderboard car. Leaderboard cars tend to be tuned for a specific track.

I’m sorry, I forgot that the Pinto was in one of the DLC car packs, I can’t remember but I think the 53 Corvette may have been as well. Don’t worry I’ll dig out some other stuff when I get time.

Berzerker.

I am 51 myself i enjoy forza very much i race f class a lot but not at the top of the list looking for others like me to play online with also looking for tuneing help with my cars what class do you think is the most fun

Thank you Berzerker for the splainin.

Redneck, I’m still sort of feeling out the game in World Tour mode single player. The faster the cars are, the harder they are to drive though. And I’m kind of still figuring out where my groove is and what cars I like the best. The B class is getting a little hairy. I just raced a new lotus in a B class race and I like how it handled. But I only got 2nd place and that was in beginner mode. If I ever play on line I’m probably going to have to do lower classes too. I’m still learning how to take the corners well and smooth and how much speed I need going in and all that. It can be challenging.

The big problem are long straight and tight turns at the end. And depending on what car I’m in, I can mess up. I have the Cobalt SS and I have a hard time with that thing. When it brakes it’s very unstable and understeers horribly. I was doing some hot laps at Road America with it and kept crashing on the tight corners.

Anyways… I might have to do some more E and F racing to get better. hehehhehee. So far my favorite cars have been the Fiat Punto, Alfa GTA, and Chevelle 454 SS. I haven’t really bought too many cars. I’m just going with the options they give me when I earn one from winning a race. I did buy that Cobalt though and I’m disappointed.

I forgot to ask Redneck; What is your favorite F class car???

Hi

I was looking to race F class online a couple days ago and didn’t see anybody there. I wanted to try my F 199 Austin Healy Sprite to see how it goes. It doesn’t have a lot of raw horsepower, but it’s a really fun car to drive, especially on courses with a lot of tight turns.
I used to own a 1958 BugEye Sprite and race it on SCCA parking lot courses so I have a soft spot for this car. I’m still working on the tune but I can probably sell a couple of these cars with a senior citizens discount or maybe even gift a couple to some old geezers. Maybe we can start an AARP lobby.

Very neat! That sounds like a lot of fun!!!

I won’t qualify for the AARP lobby yet though. Booooooo. Hehehhehe

the 1977 Ford Escort RS1800? it’s Cosworth powered… I believe there is a newer Ford Escort in the game with the Cosworth engine swap option in its upgrade menu - but I don’t know if it’s left or right hand drive!

My uncle owned a Cosworth Vega, new, back in its day - horribly unreliable, was in the shop alot! with engine issues as I recall - he didn’t keep it very long. a friend also had a vega, but with a big block v8 swapped into it - a drag racing nutter!

I don’t see the RS 1800 in Forza 4 anywhere. I do have the newer Escort and the Sierra. But I’m not liking the right hand drive for some reason. I don’t know if it’s that big of a deal. The Escort handles very well.

Yeah, the Cosworth Vega was probably more of a novelty than actually good in application. Although I think if it was done properly might have been real good. Maybe there were some fine examples out there that didn’t experience what your Uncles was. I grew up being a Chevy nut, so… I’m not so much married to that brand any longer, but they do have a soft spot in my heart.

I think my favorite car so far is the Subura WRX Impreza. I forget which year, the older one with the big spoiler, 2 door. Is that a 98? But the thing is I think it feels faster than it actually is. I thought it felt like I was flying in it, but then I got one of those Ford Focus RS thingies, the 5 cylinder one and my lap times were quicker and that was including some horrible corners that I went off course. The WRX just handles so well and feels like it makes driving easy. But I guess that translates in slower speeds.

welcome oldman lol…I got you beat by 9yrs though, I really like how the 2010 Camaro handles you can upgrade too A class with mostly handling and leave the engine stock…still has lots of pull, the 2002 Camaro can be upgraded too several classes and it performs well,
