So I’ve read somewhere on this forum that the new Windows update 1709 would fix alot of stuttering and such in Forza 7. Today the update arrived and I installed it immediately. The first thing I did when the installation was completed was to fire up Forza. I quickly noticed the almost constant stuttering and the game felt exactly like when I first installed Creators Update and hadn’t turned off Game Mode. I went into windows settings to check if it had been re-enabled. Since update 1709 there is no longer an option to turn game mode off! And since there is no way to “disable fullscreen optimization” for any Windows Store apps, well… We’re screwed.
Before the 1709 update the game worked mostly fine (apart from the memory leak). No constant stuttering and I could race for maybe an hour before noticing any kind of stutter and had to restart the game. Now it’s unplayable for me.
My setup:
Intel i7 4790K (clocked to 4.6ghz)
16GB DDR3
nVidia GTX 1080
144hz monitor (playing Forza with unlocked framerate)
There is an option to turn off game mode, but now it’s located in the Windows Game-Bar. so i suggest to temporarily enable game bar, while in the game press (Win+G) and you will see a new button on the bar to turn Game-Mode Off.
Also make sure that windows didn’t automatically reinstall your drivers. It usually takes some tinkering to set your drivers back up the way they were previously. For instance I always do a clean install of GPU drivers and dont ever install Geforce Experience or the Audio driver because they conflict with other things I have installed. If windows automatically installs the driver I’ll have to do a clean custom install afterwards.
I loaded 1709 but I am using the N version and Forza will not start. Complains about missing media pack and currently there is no compatible media pack for this build so I had to roll back to get the game to start.
After rolling back the game started, crashed. Then I started it again and seemed fine. Started a race and got some severe stuttering, looked at task manager and see a modern setup exe hoggin my CPU ranging from 20% to 70% usage. I killed the process and stuttering went away for now.
TDU’s advice worked for me. After 1709 update, FM7 would show splash screen and then disappear - no error. I uninstalled VIP, Hoonigan, and Day 1 DLC packs from [Settings], [Apps]. You have to click FM7, select advanced options and then from there delete the packs.
DO NOT reset app - it is unnecessary and may delete your in-game progress! Just delete the VIP, Hoonigan, and Day 1 DLC packs.
Go back to the store and click the upper-right menu button to bring up your library. From there you should see the version of FM7 you purchased. Click that and it will take your to the FM7 storefront page. Scroll down and you should see items your own, and/or have installed. Click the packs that say “owned” and reinstall them.
Note: The Car Pass will not download. I think that will download until we see the 1st of 6 scheduled packs.
With the update my game doesnt even start now , worked before fine apart from the known crashes etc .
It just opens and closes instantly after a few seconds .
Stuff like this is why I change from ‘Current Branch’ to ‘Current Branch for Business’. I’m still on 1703, and it’s up to date. 1709 has the added feature of controlling UWP APP volume (Forza 7 for example) in the volume mixer, but until the bugs are worked out that doesn’t make the update worth using.
oke i tried the gamebar fix it didnt work but it did reveal something strange and increadibly anoying cause i dont know why it’s happening.
so i ran the benchmark and before 1709 i had avg 59fps with 150% scaling 2xmsaa 1080p ultra, now i have 30, 29.9 avg to be exact. it was set to 60fps (no vsync) i tried uncapped and with vsync 30 fps all the time.
it wasnt untill i turned on MSI afterburner (crashing yes i know) that it revealed every time i opened game bar fps shot to 60, when the game bar then closed wham back to 30
so…any idea’s cause i’m highly confused T.T
some more testing, only in fullscreen windowed is 60 solid if i mouse over the top to make the bar appear it also shoots to 60 fps
also tried re-installing the dlc’s
for funzies turned off my framecaps and let it run a windowed vs fullscreen benchmark identical settings otherwise :
some more testing same for horizon 3, i bet if i had more uwp games the list would be longer T.T
there already is a topic about this. in all cases with all users in that topic (as well with me) the culprit is having multiple monitors and having them set to duplicate. As soon as i unhooked my second screen (my tv) the fps lock went away. with others changing the mode from duplicate to extend also solved the problem. My guess is this affects all uwp games well at least the forza ones not sure if it’s all uwp games. But it was rather weird that this happend right after the patch.
After 1709 update none of my Win Store games worked, while other games on Steam etc. worked just fine. After an hour or so Win Store games magically started working again. What a mess, this whole UWP thing is so janky and random.
