My new one is the game now has random performance! Sometimes I’m locked to 60fps no worries, next time I boot up, I struggle to maintain even 55fps, can’t work out what’s different each time…
Im the same, benchmark 70 - 80 fps, first race in the rain at le-man pegged at 60fps (v-sync). Next three races and its a stuttering mess at between 40 and 55fps. Not even turning settings down to 1080p medium, rebooting the game, rebooting the pc helps.
Im done also, so many issues since launch.
Stuttering in game unless I close any performance monitoring software!
Game crashing
Menu makes me sick with the amount of stuttering
Ive been a fan of Forza since the first game, I was so happy that it has come to PC, just please fix it.

This is exactly as I feel, I was so excited on hearing about the release of 7 as I haven’t played a mainstream forza game since 4 (no Xbox one you see) horizon 3 was a mess for 6 months, then this…what a shambles, so disappointed…
I have the same problem.
I can do between 2 and 6 races with all options maxed out and get a rocksolid 60FPS (2560×1080p) not a single frame lost. Then all of a sudden it starts stuttering like crazy. Going from 60 down to 45 and up to 65 (vsync is still on) making it just unplayable.
I did notice that when i start the game the total ram usage is around 6/6.5gb. Then after a few races it’s up to 10gb and the stuttering begins.
This happens everytime, as soon as ram usage is in the range of 9.8 to 10.2gb it starts to stutter.
I have found that it will run fine and then it will drop FPS but the same part of the track wont on the next lap, long beach at the start is the worst. I have wondered though if its the game or windows as The Division suddenly started crashing on me even though its been fine since launch even on a fresh install.
What settings do you run as I ended up setting mine to low and dynamic except for msaa and locking it to 60fps but even then it will drop with or without msaa.
For what it’s worth, after a LOT of messing about with settings I’ve deduced that msaa is the culprit, before the Nov patch and it’s graphics updates, 8x was fine, now its not!! I’m currently running 2x at 1080p and 135% resolution… Locked now to 60fps bar a few drops at the very beginning of a race…shambles!!!
Sorry if my comments don’t help at all, but this is no surprise at all - after all, they want people to buy the Xbox One-X to play Forza, innit? Because you tell me… how is it possible that the One-X which is not even on par with a high-end PC has no hiccups, while on even a really beefy PC, performance is all over the place?
That the X is running fine is not really a surprise, creating a game for fixed hardware will always be better optimized. Therefore giving better performance with lower end hardware compared to pc.
To achieve the X performance on pc you will need quite a bit more power than the X has to get the same result. Also to get these 4K 60FPS numbers the level of detail is lowered just to get those numbers.
But that is no excuse for this game to run as it does.
What is even worse is that it can run a rocksolid 60FPS for a number of races and then suddenly start to stutter or crash.
When i check my load getting that 60FPS with all options maxed and an 1080p ultrawide (2560×1080) screen it only needs 70% of the gpu and that is while it is downclocked to only 899Mhz, compared to the normal 1550Mhz.
So it should have no problem maintaining a constant smooth framerate. Even when framedrops occur you normaly would hardly notice it.
When other pc games drop from 60FPS to say 50 it remains a smooth experience. But in forza losing just 1 FPS creates a massive stutter. And that is where it clearly shows xbox. Build for 60FPS at all times not a frame more not a frame less.
No offense, but that`s a bit of a silly conspiration theory.
On top of what Burnett46 already said, Turn10 have about 10 years of Xbox experience. The whole engine has been initially built for Xbox. PC is obviously still new terrain for them.
Also I dont think its coincidence that pretty much all UWP games (as in games released through Windows) struggle. Quantum Break, Gears of War, Forza Horizon, Recore, now Forza 7. Thats five top developers, but they all had tons of issues at their Windows launch. I dont really know whats going on there on a technical level, but its kinda obvious its a lot different from lets say a Steam release.
On the general thread topic, ye, I am close to just give it up as well, and I believe I have a high tolerance level for issues with games.
Since the latest patch two or three proper races is the best possible outcome, by then I either have a CTD or performance degenerates.
To those thinking this is about settings, or our systems … I think everyone here had no such performance problems before the patch.
And we can “easily” run the game at 60fps, it`s just that after a few races the game has a nervous breakdown and requires a reboot to get back to normal performance.
Here is a tip… on PC, never use dynamic settings, never! Just set it all manually at your own preferences and test what the limit of your PC setup is. I’m having zero stuttering, and apart from the occasional CTD, which drives me nuts at times, the game runs very smooth in every way. My manual settings in the graphical department is set to the highest possible setting, also the resolution scaler is set to 130%. My res is set at 1920*1080 with VSync-ON. Also don’t set the audio to dynamic! If you have a good motherboard with a good onboard sound chip, set it to the highest setting. I know i did. Never had problems with sound. If only they could get rid of the CTD (for me, when it happens, it’s always after a race, or when going back to main menu from within the pre-race menu (B button)).

I have the same problem. I am finally able to start the game after the last Win 10 Update and now the performance decreased dramatically.
When the game released I was able to play it on Ultra settings with 8x MSAA in 1920x1080 and I got 70-80 Fps and it looked amazing.
Now I only get 20-45 FPS with the same settings. I did not change anything.
So what did you (Turn 10) change wit your last patches?
When I want to get 70-80 FPS right now then I can only use 2x MSAA and then the game looks very bad.
Try lowering mirror quality to high like I said, this enabled me to go back up to 8x msaa, the mirrors will only update at 30fps but it’s better I think to have a smoother overall image afforded by the increased msaa…
Changing the mirror quality does not change anything for me.
I only get more FPS when I lower the MSAA.
The must have changed /destroyed the performance of the MSAA with one of the last patches.
This game is totally bad on PC.
After release it randomly crashed to desktop. Then the Win 10 update was released and I was not able to start the game anymore.
I finally managed to start it and now the performance is worse than ever.
Great job Turn 10. Where can I get my 100€ back?
I only played some hours and I spent more hours on fixing Win 10 and Forza 7.
That’s weird, but I’m beginning to expect that from this game, the reason I say about the mirror quality is while I was ‘experimeting’ with the game I tried switching everything to dynamic, this locked me to 60fps, great I thought, then noticed the change in update within the mirrors indicating that this indeed had been lowered…
I also believe msaa performance has been drastically reduced…
I’ve also tried turning off msaa and using dsr from within Nvidia CP, with varying results…
