Best lap times are the fastest clean lap if applicable, so thats what was posted. The ai likely had faster dirty laps, but once a clean lap was set thats whats shown.
STOP ALLOWING THESE TRYHARD DRIVATARS TO CORNER BOMB!!!
So I’ve done the first two open events. D and C. Lvl 4 rules 2. The AI has been great competition. I’ve started everywhere from 7th back to 24th. It would seem at least in these first two events, the AI is performing far far better than ever. I haven’t experienced any of the old AI tricks of the past. The top three cars no longer run away on the first lap. Haven’t been pitted once in six races. Never corner bombed once. In fact the corner racing has been very professional.
To say the least, I’m impressed with the AI. Now if they can get the FRRs up tovthe same standards racing in this game might just be fun after all.
Sometimes they do server side updates and don’t ever tell us. You know, great communication and such.
The AI is the same from the last update. Occasionally they will throw in a hot fix but they don’t do unannounced updates
I’d suggest a mixture of placebo and not playing the updated AI enough to warrant the ‘AI’ had changed’ comments.
I played the open class tour to completion last week and the new tour today. Seems identical to me.
The caveat I’d make is that ‘s on LVL 8 but that needs work too, so it’d be a shock to not change the setting most players still playing would play on.
The updated AI seems similar to the old one in that they’re much better at some tracks than others would be my purely anecdotal analysis.
Well, I just uped the anti on the B class anniversary series to lvl 5 rules 2. Started the race mid pack. Went into the first turn at Watkins Glen with an absolutely clean start. No bumps, bruises, or pits. Lvl 5 seems to be my limit on skill but makes for some great racing challenges. Worked my way through the pack. The only thing even close to a possible pit was when “I” cut an AI driver off a bit short. But that one was on me not on the AI. And I recovered by just giving way to the other car.
The top three cars “DID NOT” do the old classic run away. They stayed within the front of the pack. Once I got into second place it was a good 1-2 battle at the front. I had the race won on the 3rd to last corner but the AI car slide under me on the last corner and the finish was a slick 1/2 car victory for the AI.
I would say, at this point, if you’re experiencing problems with the AI, you’re probably taking on AI above your driving abilities. Try backing the AI down until you find a level where you can compete with them. They are really giving some great racing if you’re within your ability level.
The AI is slower now than it was before. It was easy to win at Lvl 8 before, it’s easier now, mainly due to AI battling each other and having to take compromised lines.
Behavior of the new AI differs greatly depending on whether we’re dealing with AI opponents driving in one or two lines. In the latter scenario they’re basically unable to overtake each other or react to the player (e.g. leaving space on the inside in turns) so navigating through the field on narrow tracks is sometimes very tricky during the first lap. Experience usually becomes much better when AI cars stretch into a single line.
I wish AI drivers were able to use more than two lines logic where possible, especially on long and wide straights (e.g. Le Mans’ Mulsanne).
Wouldn’t take much notice either way tbh. He wa saying this bout the Ai a day ago
@Draugnimir track width could play into the factor. The first two race series of the anniversary event are fairly consistent track widths. Although I did witness several occasions of AI overtaking Ai and overtake exchanges between Ai and myself. Most consistent with proper racing. It could be largely dependent on the specific track and how T10 programs each Ai accordingly.
I’ve played this game (+ waited in lobbies/etc) for 65+ days. I mostly play slow MP stuff; my ‘rating’ hovers around S4400…
Whenever I played SP/career, I always had max rules + AI level 8 + started 24th whenever possible.
Over Nov2023 - Apr2025, I could never get a top 5, and usually just a top 12 when racing teh robots.
Today, I was in 8th by the first lap, 3rd by the second, and cruised home 5+ seconds ahead at the end of 5 laps of MV. I felt like a hero, but am certain I’ve not improved that much.
The new robots seem moar fun and less stupid, but… they need to fight/race back a bit more. Once passed, they seem content to stay behind.
Having said all that, I must admit I only managed a 15th at Laguna in the next race, no car changes. Teh robot that got 14th put up a proper good/fair fight.
The ai doesnt use the same physics as the player, this is the case in most racing games. Brake checking was in past forzas, its just more prevalent in this game.
Replying to your other comment about getting pitted, it happens in every game. The only thing that can reduce its occurrence is how you race them. This isnt an excuse, this game has poor ai but, tbh most games do.
The whole “multi-line” thing, isnt really a thing. The ai are basically the same as they were other than in the beginning of the race, where they run in 2 lines until the 2nd lap when they spread out a little bit. Due to this change, the player has to start a race differently than before.
If you find that the ai have particular tendencies, then you have to assume it will always happen. You have to try to avoid putting yourself in those situations. This might not be the answer some would want to hear but, its kind of the way it is.
The fact is the ai are dumb, they have very poor awareness and even with the recent small improvements, you have to assume their judgment cant be trusted. The more space you can give them, the better your race will be.
Maybe a dozen more races completed with the new AI.
I feel they stay double-file a bit too long. The double-flie is great for race start and turn one. And it’s a help when the track is tight and AI need somewhere to go (besides trying to jam onto one line, or off-track into the dirt).
If the AI actually battled for position, the multi-line feature would really shine, IMO. Even if the AI still allowed the player to win… Seeing them battle during a race would be welcome, and create opportunity for interesting traffic situations, as I advance up the field.
This can be done in modern games. In GT7, faster AI cars at the rear of the starting pack work their way forward ahead of the player.
But I do feel the AI should try to make a move to the main race line at the first open and safe opportunity. I’ve seen them just leaving a huge inside line vacant, sticking on their outside line for no reason I can see.
Im curious as to what you think would make the ai better. Tbh the determining factor for how these races turn out is the player. If youre too slow, youre not going to win and if youre too fast you win every time. If you are in between, you end up mid pack.
Dont get me wrong the ai arent good and things do get boring as its rinse and repeat. But, i think multiplayer has the same traits, youre either too fast, too slow or in the middle.
Great battles dont happen every race, thats what makes them great as theyre less frequent. I personally would love for the ai to put up more of a fight to raise the odds of this happening, but unfortunately they’re not there yet and most likely wont be.
Id say you can get the best single player races in freeplay because you can set things up to create a challenge for yourself. But as far as having great wheel to wheel combat, thats just not gonna happen especially in short career races.
Following up on some comments regarding the current AI and way they take two lines through the first few corners.
In real racing, drivers take two lines through the corners. There’s now ramming and fighting for the perfect line. That’s why spotters call car high or car low. So the driver knows to take the high line or the inside line. As the pack starts to stretch out they start to line up more. But as small groups form there will be two lines starting to draw out again.
From my experience, running in the lvl 3, 4, and 5 range, that’s what the AI has been doing.
@im2fast4u711 , with your analogy of too fast stuck in the middle or too slow depends on driver level and balancing that level with the AI. I’ve been having great races in the lvl3 to 5 range with the current AI.
What I think a majority of the players are having issues with is the levels of the AI. I’m in the mid-range of players ability levels. Thise players in the upper levels need a higher challenge in the AI. I think T10 has a good balance on the AI. But the AI levels need to go up to level 12 or 16 or even 24. It just needs to be higher for the higher level players. So the like you’ve said, you can find the spot where you’re not going to just win every race running away every time.
Those who played Forza from Forza 1, which Forza technically had the best AI? I have played Forza 6 Apex Beta, and the AI were called Drivatars, and those were some of the best AI I’ve raced against.
Motorsport 6, IMHO, is probably the one entry that has come closest to getting the AI right. It didn’t start out that way - the first month was a bit rough, although I still enjoyed it greatly. After that first patch, though, it was more or less smooth-sailing and there was very rarely a moment where I found myself frustrated with or cursing the AI.
Whatever team Turn 10 had together for that game, they need to move heaven and earth to get them back, because 7 is where the wheels started to come off.
